Mexico, Mex Trios title tournament, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 12/18 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, ESTO]
1) Delta, Leono, Trueno b Apocalipsis, Camorra, Inquisidor
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Pólvora b Molotov, Rouge, Sensei
3) Astral, Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
4) Sagrado b Misterioso II [lightning]
5) Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero b Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Toscano
6) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. b Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Not much news out of this. Sounds like attendance was good, but that doesn’t mean much of a gate, with all three free tickets they gave away.

Dorada pinned Damian, not Pierrothito, in the atomicos match. No title match coming up there after all. ESTO kills the Sagrado/Misterioso, feeling all of Sagrado’s offense was cold and repetitive. Rey Bucanero got carried around on his teammates shoulders after they got the win in the semimain. Mistico & Mephisto did mask challenged after the main.

Fuego en el Ring caught up to Sangre Azteca when he was in Guadalajara, to talk about his travels to France and, like everyone else when talking to Sangre lately, ask what the deal is with Black Warrior. This time, Sangre said he’d be heading to the CMLL offices this week to get some resolution on the situation, but it sounded like a non-committal answer he gave just because there’s no real answer he could give.

Perhaps Sangre Azteca really did got to the CMLL offices, because we do finally have some resolution. To recap: Black Warrior hasn’t been seen in about two months, since shortly after losing his hair to Yujiro. The word about him since is he’s done with lucha libre and has moved on. The only problem is he was technically Mexican National Trios champ as part of Poder Mexica. Sangre Azteca & Dragon Rojo have already moved on, replacing Warrior with Misterioso, but they can’t change the titles that easy, the commission isn’t going to allow them just to change members of the champion trio. They’d have to give up the titles.

It appears that’s what happened. Starting Tuesday, there’s are elimination matches for the Mexican National Trios Championship. There is no mention about how many teams or how long the tournament will take yet – the news page doesn’t even mention the tournament – but the four teams entered so far:

  • Mascara Dorada, Stuka Jr., Metro
  • Cancerbros (Euforia, Virus, Polvora)
  • Angels (Oro, Plata, Azteca)
  • Guerreros Tuareg (Arkangel, Skandalo, Loco Max)

Mascara Dorada, Stuka Jr. and Metro have 0 previous appearances as a team. Off to a great start! The big question here is if it’s a 8 team tournament (which would indicate this is title is moving down a couple levels in importance) or a 16 one (who knows.) Guess the rest of the teams in the comments.

Blue Demon talks about a feud with Perro Jr.

In an undercard mask match at CMLL’s Arena Xalapa show, Jason La Maquina lost his mask to Caballero Ninja. Real name is Manuel Alvarez.

DJ Spectro picks his Star of 2009.

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#921)
Mexico: 01/18 – if they air 2 best ofs
US: 01/31

Opener was not advertised and probably won’t air, but AAA did mention it on their website. Zumbi is a wrestler from Brazil, who did a dive off the light support.

Vipers won in thier debut, Black Abyss getting Aerostar. (They’re off to a better start than the Cancerberos!) After the match, for reasons unclear so far, the Psycho Circus attacked the Vipers to set up a new feud.

Lider & Nicho destroyed Tiger & Jack. Speaking of – Jack Evans and Teddy Hart are going to miss tonight’s ROH show too, because of a canceled flight (snow.) That’s some bad luck. Edit: late word is Jack & Teddy are trying for a flight that would get them there last minute, if there are no delays. Hope it works out for everyone, wouldn’t bet on it. Probably will be a good show regardless, but if you’re buying it online just to see that match, hope you’re okay with just seeing an Alex/Rocky one.

Clowns appear to be at win #505. Konnan ordered the troops to attack the Psycho Circus after the match. Cibernetico ran out for the save, though he was far more concerned with getting Konnan than helping out the Psycho Circus. Konnan was begging off at the end, until he was rescued by his men.

Crazy Boy replaced the injured Marco Corleone in the main event. Electroshock wore his Ultamtium mask (his original gimmick, back in CMLL) to the ring.

Next taping: next year!
