Mexico preview, Fuego & the Cancerberos

With next week’s card announced, tonight’s Arena Mexico show is a bit of a lame duck. ESTO pitches it as Ultimo Guerrero vs Strong Man, with the two main events next week matching up this week.

AAA’s final (for the year? for now?) Lucha Libre Premier taping is tonight as well. Given they don’t announce the bonus points until they air the show, we may not actually know who won for a month. Or they may just give Mesias a trophy.

Dark Angel credits sticking to a strict diet all year for winning the bodybuilding contest.

AAA says the AAA/Legion match at Guerra de Titanes will be an elimination match to a single victor. (So, a Cibernetico, where the team must face each other if they win.) They also hype the exclusive lineup to come.

When discussing his Rotoplas sponsorship, Super Poker reveals wrestlers make fun of him for being fat. Shocking!

CMLL (TUE) 12/01 Arena Aficion [El Sol de Hidalgo]
1) Chester vs Kristal Jackson
2) Pandemonium & Samot vs Exotico & La Plaga
3) Astro Boy & Fuego vs Cancerbero & Raciel
4) Ephesto, Euforia, Mortiz vs La Máscara, Mictlán, Rouge
5) La Sombra & Místico vs Atlantis & Mephisto

First time with Flash listed as Fuego, plus the other two new guys.

12/04 CMLL Arena Mexico lineup (Sin Salida)

CMLL (FRI) 12/04 Arena Mexico
1) Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Rouge vs Hooligan, Loco Max, Skándalo
2) Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeño Damian 666 [lightning]
3) Brazo de Plata, La Máscara, Máximo vs Felino, Misterioso II, Negro Casas
4) Héctor Garza, Místico, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Último Guerrero
5) La Sombra & Volador Jr. vs Ephesto & Mephisto [CMLL TAG]
6) Terrible & Texano Jr. vs Naito & Yujiro [hair]

As it turns out, the tag team title match does make the card. Still seems odd to have two tag matches on top. CMLL did book Mistico on the show, so they’re going to do fine, it’s just an odd arrangement (unless they’re planning on the two winning teams meeting down the road.)

As usual with CMLL cards, not a lot going on besides the main event. Ultimo Guerrero, totally done with Guerreros del Atlantida, continues to team up with Atlantis as if nothing’s changed. 3rd match is a team of the Brazos, which will become a trend. Clearly comedy in that.

Understatement of the day: CMLL could’ve found someone better for that opener than Rouge.

Minis lighting match should be really good, and so should the tag title one. Just hard to get excited when thse shows have had a habit of not making TV, or not turning up until months later.

The big show to end the year. Wagner/Mesias and Konnan/Cibernetico are as previously announced.

AAA’s twitter, when teasing the matches for this show (without actually listing them all yet), said there’d be an AAA vs Legion match for the 2010 Rey de Reyes title shot. Presumably, that’s match 5, though it’s not specified on the poster. This would seem to indicate Dr. Wagner isn’t losing and getting a rematch, though plans can change.

Not sure how good of an idea it is to set a challenger 4 months before the match, when all their post-title shot ideas are “run uneventful trios involving both wrestlers” and “run two uneventful triso matches, where each title match participant get to win a match.” Not the most compelling TV.

Of the 8, Rocky, Alex and Teddy have never been treated like contenders to the heavyweight title. Octagon in a 10-15 singles match at this point in his career would be a very bad idea. La Parka too, but that hasn’t stopped him before. There’s no telling if Latin Lover will still be around in March – he’s here and gone a lot, and you’d want the champion to be full time. Chessman got the shot last year at Rey de Reyes. I can’t see them doing Mesias/Chessman again, but they have set up a Wagner/Chessman match. Zorro has been completely marginalized since TripleMania, but they could always throw him in against either guy.

Fabi Apache and Sexy Star finally have their blow off match. When AAA brought in Rain, Jennifer Blade, and everyone else, it seemed like they were just going to let this drift away without resolving it. Instead, those women come off as a pointless digression thus far (why waste all that time on them without doing a big match? – they should’ve come in after this feud was done.) Aero and Billy are supposed to be in their respective corners, and all four of those people are supposed to be in hair/mask match just two days later in Guadalajara at the FMLL show. Probably going to be a bad weekend for one couple.

AAA should’ve taken the tag team titles of Lider & Nicho a long time ago, but they haven’t, so it’s fruitless to hope that they’ll do it now. Jack & Marco seem like an interesting team, it gives Marco something to do, and it breaks Jack out of facing the same guys every week.

Second match is usual WagnerManiacs vs AAA trios.

Opener is listed as a battle royal with the AAA minis title on the line. Mini Charly Manson is champ, but I suppose he makes up for not defending the belt in a year and a half by defending against 7 people at once. Math sorta works with that.

After this, it’s just the annual last taping of the year in Chilpanicgo, and they’re done until January.

A little bit of action, as they scramble to get the undercard in place for Guerra de Titanes. In usual form, that means the angles to set up those matches will air after Guerra de Titanes is taped.

Main event we already knew.

Jack/Marco vs Lider/Nicho sets up a tag team title match for GdT, as you’ll see when we get to that lineup. They’ve been moving on that direction on TV, so it’s not a big surprise.

Wasn’t actually expecting Fabi & Aero to ever get around to defending those titles, so it’s nice that they do make the one logical defense they can before the whole thing is forgot. That too is setting up a match for GdT, and I bet you can guess it.

Five matches, so everything should air.

Mexico, Monterrey, Super Porky sponsored

CMLL (TUE) 11/24 Arena Mexico
1) Disturbio & Semental b Molotov & Súper Camaleón
2) Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei, Zeuxis b Estrella Mágica, Lady Apache, Lluvia
3) Euforia, Pólvora, Virus b Ángel Azteca Jr., Ángel de Oro, Ángel de Plata
4) Blue Panther, Brazo de Plata, Máximo b Felino, Ray Mendoza Jr., Shigeo Okumura
5) Máscara Dorada b Negro Casas

Dorada lost the first, but came back to win two straight. He’d like that title match now.

Tecnicos won the semimain in straight falls when the rudos got DQed in the first for excessive violence on Maximo.

AAA (SUN) 11/22 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Angel Dorado Jr. & Sky b Epidemius & TDN [AAA NORTH TAG]
2) Baby Rap, Laredo Kid, Máscara Púrpura b Golden Boy, Rey Demonio, Simbolo
3) May Flowers, Pimpinela Escarlata, Yuriko b Black Mamba, Caifan Rockero I, Rey Infernal
4) Sobredosis b Hombre Sin Miedo [NORTH MIDDLE]
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Electroshock DQ Nicho el Millionario & Ozz

Both title matches were title changes. Nicho pulled Wagner’s mask for the DQ.

On Google, “Cancerberos Infernales” translates to “Moderator & Software Editor”. See, Google takes user suggestions for translations, and probably could use a better approval algorithm for them. CMLL’s recap says the tecs won that, though a box y lucha post says Euforia got away with a foul to win, and has a picture of one of the Angels still selling the blow. EH.

Mima replaced Princesa Blanca in the second. And the whole rudo side changed in the opener.

AAA put a post up hinting about the matches at Guerra de Titanes. BUt the poster is already floating out there, so the hints aren’t really that necessary.

CMLL held another press conference today, which included the lineup for the 12/04 show. I’ll get to it in it’s own post, but the other news:

– Brazo de Plata is now being sponsored by Rotoplas, a water container and plumbing company. Apparently, their water tanks are everywhere. I am scared of the ideas you could come up with Super Porky and plumbing. He’ll have new gear.

– Christmas and New Year’s fall on Friadys this year. CMLL will be running special shows for those days, at an early 5pm start time. (Which means they’ll end about the time they usually start.) They’ll also have a special show on January 6th (3 Kings Day), and the Tuesday Arena Mexico show that week (11/28?) will be moved to Wednesday in Arena Coliseo.

Fuego en el Ring has an interview with Satanico about his career. Worth reading, even if I didn’t remember to pull a quote. They also to talk to Terrible, who likes hearing his name mentioned as going to Japan, but will not actually believe until he has the plane ticket in his hand. Smart man.

The Gladiatores has video interviews with Lady Apache and promoter Jose Contreras.

Cronicas and Leyendas looks back at Wolf Rubinskis, Estrella Blanca, and Tortugas Ninjas. Speaking of, the IWRG Turtle appears to be Leonardo.

Box Y Lucha talks to the Brazos (like the other interviews from a few weeks ago), Tirantes, Psicosis, Histeria about their names (same as usual – Psi and Histeria have started adding Xtreme to their names anyway), and the new Karis La Momia (who says he’s got permission from Parka.) Also, Villano III tells a story about how Kung Fu sleeping in his car before a show ended with Los Fantasticos being thrown in jail.

DTU posts promos from Shiima Xion and Drake Younger on Tercera Caida about the DTU/CZW show on Saturday.

CMLL (MON) 11/30 Arena Puebla
1) Milenium & SWAT vs Crazy Black & Toro Bill Sr.
2) Blue Center & Pegasso vs Fuerza Chicana & Policeman
3) Lady Apache vs Lluvia, Dalis la Caribeña, Marcela, Estrella Mágica, Hiroka, Zeuxis, Princesa Blanca, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei [#1 Contenders, CMLL WOMEN]
4) Héctor Garza, Místico, Shocker vs Terrible, Texano Jr., Vangelis
5) Averno vs Volador Jr. [NWA MIDDLE]

A lot of stuff packed in here for whatever reason. Mostly just the way the schedule works out.

Averno/Volador’s been set up the last few weeks. Vangelis teaming up with Terrible & Texano finally gets him a shot against Mistico. Vangelis’ whole deal for coming to CMLL was to get the Mexican Light Heavyweight title back from Mistico (Mistico still holds it, even if they forgot) – this is the first time they’ve met in 2 years.

Amapola hasn’t defended her belt since July, so it’s nice they actually are doing something with it. It doesn’t appear to take much to get a shot to become the top women’s wrestler in the world; forget all the others novatas, Dalis La Caribena has wrestled all of one match and is as close to the title as the national champ. Kinda surprising that Marcela & Hiroka are scheduled back working here but none of the guys from the France tour turn up.

indy (TUE) 12/01 Arena Coliseo Monterrey
1) Infinito & Solovino vs Lover Boy & Sangre Negra
2) Aguila Extrema & Gato Fantasma vs Gemelo Muerte I & Gemelo Muerte II
3) Diluvio Negro II, Furor, Mongol Chino vs Bengali, Difunto I, Difunto II
4) Hijo del Ninja, Potro Jr., Silver Star vs Pierko el Boricua, Sergio Romo Jr., Zumbido
5) Ángel Dorado & Koko Viper vs Angel Night & Sky [Relevos Increíbles, hair, mask]

Two TV tapings and CMLL’s big show lineup to come.

more than you wanted to know about the CMLL bodybuilding contest

CMLL held it’s annual bodybuilding contest on Wednesday. If you want to know, it’s past the link.

The wrestling wise vital information is Dark Angel, Inquisador, Electrico, Molotov, and maybe indy mini Astral are supposed to get rewarded with a higher card position (it is going to be December soon, no one will notice.) Also, Ultimo Dragoncito is still not back in the ring, but apparently feels good enough to pose.
