more than you wanted to know about the CMLL bodybuilding contest

CMLL held it’s annual bodybuilding contest on Wednesday. If you want to know, it’s past the link.

The wrestling wise vital information is Dark Angel, Inquisador, Electrico, Molotov, and maybe indy mini Astral are supposed to get rewarded with a higher card position (it is going to be December soon, no one will notice.) Also, Ultimo Dragoncito is still not back in the ring, but apparently feels good enough to pose.

This year, it was opened up to the fans and was taped by 52MX. Judging from the pictures, it looks like it drew less than a Tuesday Mexico show, and tickets were free as with a couple of stubs from prior shows.

Participants included not just CMLL wrestlers, but wrestlers from affiliated buildings and indy wrestlers who have worked on CMLL shows. Everyone was divided into categories. No idea how the categories are supposed to work. Detailed rankings all from Lucha Libre del CMLL.

Minis:
1) Astral
2) Pequeno Nitro
3) Pequeno Olimpico & Ultimo Dragoncito (!) – tie
others: Mini Warrior, Mini Halcon, Mini Escriba, Pierrothito, Mustang

Women
1) Dark Angel – 4th year in a row
2) Dalia la Caribena (Negro Casas’ wife)
3) Amapola
(no others – Marcela was in this last year, not so much this year.)

Principiante:
1) Inquisidor
2) Trueno
3) Dragon Dorado
4) Apocalipsis
others: Insolito, Toro Irisson, Arkangel de la Muerte, Epidemia, Trueno

Intermedia:
1) Electrico
2) Polvora
3) Mini Damian 666
4) Delta
others: Camorra, Flash (as Flash), Leono, Metal Blanco, Metraon, Volador. Sensei was in this category, but they moved him up the next one

Advanced:
1) Molotov
2) Toscano
3) Sensei
4) La Mascara
5) La Sombra
6) Mephisto

Cesar is adamant Toscano and Mini Damian were ripped off here. The Gladiatores recap seems to agree. R de Rudo and Proyeccion Luchistica also agree. PL notes Paco Alonso was NOT there, with the programming crew handing out the awards. Not sure if he was one of the judges, but Blue Panther is visible in some of the pictures too.

Fuego en el Ring and LuchandoLibre also have recaps. ESTO says the winners will get a “stellar place” in upcoming CMLL shows.

Count ’em: seven recaps of a bodybuilding contest. Thoughts

1) and yet, I can’t get Tuesday results until mid Thursday.
2) though, if they made everything free…
3) can’t imagine seeing 7 recaps of a bodybuilding contest in the States with a combined zero comments about steroids or performance enhancing drugs. Completely and totally absurd. But no different than every year.

  1. @Daniel: MVS recorded it for sure, so if the contest, or portions of it, is televised, it will be on RdL or 52mx.

I just read that LATV and 52mx are losing two shows, one being Nocturninos, and I forget the other. Hopefully something will happen which leads to CMLL airing on LATV to fill the gaps.

I watched LATV on Tuesday and RdL was a repeat. Anyone know if this weeks episode aired?

  2. For future reference, which is the creepy Daniel? Because the one that posted yesterday had a different image.

  3. The other one who always claims to be the original Daniel is the creepy one. He has some sort of Latin Lover fetish. I read the site regularly but rarely post.

  4. I don’t know, I find a desire to see this make tv to be a little creepy. But, the separate images will be a handy tool for keeping the Daniels straight.

  5. All joking aside, I would love to know how a bodybuilding contest is judged. I mean… I look at the photos and see no difference between Pequeno Damian and Molotov. They both look equally disgusting. How do you judge who looks more disgusting and award them a trophy?

  6. @Rob:

Basically you’re judged by how much mass you have, muscle definition, symmetry, proportion, and your stage presence (your posing routine, good tan, etc.). It probably would be hard to tell the differences if you weren’t really into lifting weights yourself.
