Konnan vs Konnan, Alebrije & AAA, FMLL, Pentagon Black

AAA (SUN) 11/08 Arena Coliseo Monterrey [RFC]
1) Mini Hombre Sin Miedo & Mini Rey Sagitario b Mini Hator & Mini Rio Bravo
2) Angel Dorado, Chucho Mar, Stret Boy b Black Mamba, El Brazo, Super Vaquero
3) El Simbolo, Golden Boy, Rey Demonio b Rió Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II
4) Cuervo, Sobredosis, Último Gladiador b Estrella Universal, Gato Eveready, Hombre Sin Miedo
5) Konnan Big, Latin Lover, X-Pac b Kenzo Suzuki, Konnan, Nicho el Millionario

Konnan Big beats Konnan! Probably not the pinfall there.

AAA has a story about wrestlers helping out building houses for needy families. That’s an admirable project, but it’s not really the story. The wrestlers mentioned as helping out were Mascarita Divina, Octagoncito and Alebrije. Last time we heard about Alebrije, he was out of AAA and arguing the rights to the gimmick. Looks like he quietly came back, or they put someone the same size under a mask. Very odd.

Festival Mundial de Lucha Libre – the December Guadalajara lucha libre group – held a press confrence to promote it’s events this week. Not a lot new. Ticket prices are 80 to 320MP (6.04 to 24.14 USD) and go on sale 11/18, per night.

Post on Box Y Luchas says Perros will be taping a show on 11/19 in Acapulco.

Ras de Lona #71 has lots of Brazos, and talk about some guy named “Valvenis”.

Pentagon Black disagrees with Hijo del Santo’s column last week, mostly making the point that Santo hasn’t been any better to his wrestlers as a promoter than CMLL and AAA, and he should help his fellow wrestlers more. On Twitter, Santo said he was unhappy with this and preparing to respond.

In this week’s Luchas 2000 (via Cesar @ Box Y Lucha) Panico confirms Hijo del Rey Misterio is training with CMLL in hopes of debuting.

Standard Cholita article, though I don’t think they were doing men vs women before.

Cronicas y Leyendas looks back at Mil Mascaras & El Halcon.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update .

DTU (SAT) 11/28 Arena Lopez Mateos [DTU]
1) Flamita & Masivo vs Dinastia & Talaxys and ? & Drastick Boy
2) Paranokio vs Muerte Bucanero, Dance Boy, Black Fire, Tóxico DF
3) Trauma I vs Trauma II
4) Low Ride & Money Pack vs Kaientai & Super Mega and ? & ??
5) Extreme Tiger vs Shiima Xion
6) Drake Younger vs Aeroboy, Violento Jack [CZW HEAVY]
7) Último Gladiador vs Danny Havoc, Crazy Boy

So, there’s that.

  1. Mexicans love American stuff,so it no surprise Smackdown get better ratings than AAA and CMLL combine. I think AAA ratings were bound to take a huge drop not because Konnan but because WWE. Doesn’t UFC/MMA shows get huge ratings as well in Mexico. Mexicans not feeling lucha libre no more. AAA is nowhere near like WWE. If AAA really want a product to look like WWE,they need to get rid of indy wrestlers like Teddy Hart, they need to step their production and presentation game up.

CMLL seem like they don’t care anymore. I don’t even know why they got television. They don’t really need it.

  2. BREAKING NEWS: ROH, in conjunction with officials at AAA, is happy to announce that one of the hottest rivalries in Mexico is coming to Ring of Honor! Coming to Manassas, VA on 12/18 and to New York City for Final Battle 2009 on 12/19 are the impressive Alex Koslov and, making his return to ROH, Rocky Romero! Koslov and Romero have gone back and forth at each other for some time in AAA, and now they’re bringing that intensity to ROH! Both competitors have graced ROH rings in the past, are known the world over for their skill, and both are ready to make yet another splash in ROH. “It’s great to come back,” said Romero. “Some of the best times I’ve had in wrestling have been in ROH, and now it’s time to give back.” Tickets for both events are on sale now! Stay tuned to the main page at ROHWrestling.com for another big announcement regarding these events in the next 48 hours!

  3. @bigkhrisdogg: This is a letdown. “Guys who have wrestled in ROH before will be wrestling in ROH!” Intense! But I’m sure Rocky and especially Alex are happy and getting paid, so good for them.

I like how CMLL just now reported Mistico lost the title to Tiger Mask IV. Either word travels slow from The Orient, or they only found out when Mistico got back on the plane without the title and was all :(

  4. @thecubsfan: Yeah, it airs right before Smackdown on Friday nights. Smackdown’s rating is actually kind of impressive since it runs from 10:00-midnight on Fridays here.

  5. @Haden: “CMLL seem like they don’t care anymore. I don’t even know why they got television. They don’t really need it.”

    We have television???

All I know is I send my assistant to attend all the shows and she tells me there are people with these devices pointed at the ring called cameras. She tells me they can take many images and those images can be played back. I have my doubts about this and quite frankly I think she has one too many Coronas. I understand technology is advancing at a rapid pace these days. Just the other day I had this black and white photo of Rouge that I wanted to share with my friend in Cuernavaca and I was prepared to attach it to the pigeon but my assistant said all I had to do was place in this… ummm… what did she call it… oh that’s not important anyhow. So she placed the photo in this machine and a few seconds later she said it was “faxed” over to my friend. Of course I won’t know for sure whether she was telling the truth until I get his telegram in a couple of weeks. But to get back to my original point… even though technology is advancing, I’m sure we are still AT LEAST 20-30 years off from being able to film these matches we present every week. For now the cartoons Tony draws will have to do.

Thank you for the feedback about our wrestling promotion but if you’ll excuse me I have to be going now. If I miss the next horse taking a trip into the city I’ll never make it in time for the bodybuilding competition.

  6. Why would AAA “officials” have any say in whether Koslov and Romero work in ROH? AAA is long done their year come 12/18 and 12/19. Koslov and Romero are free to go home till the new tapings resume in January so these are just bookings they’ve worked out on their own. Gotta love ROH trying to spin it into “we have a deal with a foreign company!!!”

I just can’t wait till Romero turns on Elegido and joins Koslov in the Legion, thus ruining the ‘enemies from Mexico meet in the States’ angle. Instead it’ll just be one sorta boring lazy wrestler against another extremely boring lazy wrestler. Take your pick on who is who.

  7. RAW 9.9
    CMLL 3.5

I think it’s funny that Gladiators airs in Mexico. I saw them live at Nassau Coliseum in 1992.

  8. @HADEN

How the hell do you fiugre CMLL doesn’t need television?

You say AAA’s ratings aren’t down because of Konnan but becasue they’re too indy like. Well who do you think made it that way? It’s Konnan who brings in all the American indy wrestlers and he has given the company that whole American Indy league feel.

  9. @LLL: Not that it matters, but I’m curious. Which Raw rating is this? The live TVCDeportes version or the 10-midnight over the air network feed? Or one of the replays?

  10. Televisa over-the-air.

Good point though. I guess when you figure in the TVC(and MVS?) viewers, they probably have as many viewers as Smackdown.

  11. Doesn’t UFC unleashed or whatever show is on Galavision air down there? I know it’s on Cadena tres but that’s probably cable.

  12. I think it’s on TDN. Gotta check.

Cadena Tres is basically a Superstation like WTBS or WGN, where it’s on free over-the-air in their home market(in this case Mexico City) and cable/satellite elsewhere.
