more Avernos vs NL in Mexico, AAA at Six Flags, links

If you’ve sent me an email in the last two days, it hasn’t gotten thru. It still is not fixed. Please use my gmail address if you have it, and I’ll let you know when things are fixed.

CMLL (FRI) 11/06 Arena Mexico [superluchas, Cesar, ESTO]
1) Astro Boy & Delta b Calígula & Méssala
2) Eléctrico, Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico b Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
3) Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara, Sagrado b Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Ray Mendoza Jr., Tetsuya Naito, Yujiro
5) Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero b Brazo de Plata, La Sombra, Shocker

Rudos won clean in the main event. Sombra replaced Garza.

No Limit Villanos were DQed for throwing Mephisto over the top rope, then Yujiro was pinned after a triple powerbomb for the sweep. Very much looks like plans have changed for the end of the year. Instead of the ineviable Shocker/Garza vs No Limit hair match (as built up as far back as the cage match), CMLL will probably end the year with some combination of No Limit/Mendoza/Okumura vs Hijos del Averno. Much better idea. Garza and Shocker are unlikely to be the stars to raise CMLL up again, because they’ve already done that. Maybe the Avernos are, or maybe they’ll be the guys putting over those who will, but they can’t do it without getting some significant Mexico City wins and this would be one.

AAA held a press conference at Six Flags Mexico to announce the Lucha Libre Premier taping, at the Chinese Theatre. Wagner (who has 15 points), Jack (15), Pimpi (12) and Marco (11) were there as previously mentioned. Being AAA in 2009, they also brought along Mesias (9) (though no Elegido with the same amount of points), pushing the idea that any of of the five guys could win.

There’s no explanation of how the final will work, just another explanation about how the points work, but one of the newspaper articles says the show will have five matches. Since they’ve been running 4 matches per show up to now, I imagine that means they have a final match with the high point people remaining. If it’s a long enough fifth match, maybe that’ll be an episode in itself.

In AAA’s version of the story, Dorian Roldan notes the novalty of a points tournament in wrestling. I guess he wasn’t watching AAA when they did that tag team tournament, 2 years ago. Lucky man. Dr. Wagner is pretty certain the championship is going home to Laguna – just not sure if he or Pimpi is going to take it. Pimpinela may be the best bet here, because he’s been winning on all the TVs lately. On the other hand, they put Mesias at the press conference for a reason, and they can’t help themselves when it comes to Wagner & Mesias.

Tickets are supposed to be on sale at the Six Flags website, though I can’t spot them at the moment. Articles say they’ll be 600 to 800 pesos ($44.85 to $59.80US), with only 400 seats available.

Cesar compares CMLL actions with Val Venis not making their show (getting the info out to the people) with AAA’s handling of Charly Manson (pretending he might, instead of promoting the replacement.) AAA clearly was dishonest with their responses to questions that week – if they really thought Charly was going to show up, they would not have cut out Charly and his feud of TV that aired the same week, but it’s tough to give credit to CMLL for being better. In this one situation, yes they were better, but it’s an exception. Just look at that main event, where Garza was replaced by Sombra, with no forewarning. CMLL has lots of substitutions in it’s lineups. Sometimes, they quietly make the change on the website, or in lineups they send out to newspapers the days before (see: Mr. Niebla this week), and sometimes guys just aren’t there and it’s never explained (Angel de Oro in Puebla this week, countless Black Warrior, Hijo del Lizmark and Shocker matches.) The Val Venis and the Rouge news this week was notable because it’s the exception, but unexplained substitutions are so common that no one bothers to make a fuse anymore.

Haven’t checked for lineups, but haven’t seen them mentioned so I think I’m ok. More later, I’m sure.
