Strong Man debuts in Arena Mexico, Piratas, lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/09 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, ESTO, ]
1) Delta & Diamante b Disturbio & Escorpion
2) Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela DQ Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Zeuxis
3) Misterioso II b Máximo [lightning]
4) La Máscara, Sagrado, Valiente b Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Virus
5) La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr. DQ Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
6) Black Warrior, Shocker, Strong Man b Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro

Tecnicos won the main event clean, taking the last two falls. SuperLuchas says Strong Man looked OK, but should improve. Strong Man got Okumura with a chokebomb and Warrior hit his legdrop on Yujiro in the deciding fall. ESTO says Strong Man was very powerful, but showed no technique. Cesar says Strong Man was very charismatic, but needs to learn how lucha libre matches work. They aired a promo with Shocker and Strongman in between the last few matches.

DQ in both the 2nd and 5th were for mask pulls. Averno yanked Volador’s, and Sujei took Lluvia’s.

ESTO thought Delta looked really good in the opener. Cesar says Scorpion was injured in that match.

IWRG (THU) 10/08 Arena Naucalpan [EdR]
1) Halcon 2000 b Keshin Black
2) Eragon b Hijo del Signo
3) Jack & Miss Gaviota b Epidemia & Heavy Boy
4) Bushi, Exodia, Hombre Bala Jr. b Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Rojo, Gringo Loco
5) Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. b Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro

Pirates destroyed Oficials and demanded a title shot.

Dr. X did not know he was in a cage match until Fuego en el Ring asked him (Tuesday) how he thought he would do. Adjust your predictions accordingly.

El Hijo del Santo & Pirata Morgan main event a show at Congress Theater next Sunday.

Record has the first part of their magazine interview with Sagrado.

A new promotion in Tijuana held a press conference yesterday, saying they’d debut with LA Park, Super Parka, Super Porky vs Perro Jr., Damain 666, and Halloween on Halloween

Black Terry is #4 on Segunda Caida’s top of 2008.

CMLL (TUE) 10/13 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatío II & Trueno vs Camorra & Zayco
2) Delta, Metálico, Sensei vs Bronco, Escorpion, Puma King
3) Princesa Blanca vs Lady Apache [MEX WOMEN]
4) Máximo, Rush, Toscano vs Euforia, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
5) Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr. vs La Sombra, Máscara Dorada, Volador Jr.

Rush = Rouge. Not sure if that’s a name change or mispelling; if you listen to Magadan say his name, that’s probably how you’d spell it. Maybe it’s a just a description of the how CMLL is pushing him. Maybe he has a new robotic dog look?

CMLL (FRI) 10/16 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Starman vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Estrella Mágica, Lluvia, Marcela vs Amapola, Hiroka, Princesa Sujei
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) Volador Jr. vs Averno [lightning]
5) Místico, Shocker, Strong Man vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero
6) Black Warrior vs Yujiro [hair]

I don’t want to influence any yet to be opened polls, but Black Warrior winning the week prior seems to strongly hint at the outcome here. Both the Averno/Volador and Sujei/Lluvia issues seem to be ongoing. (Is Lluvia secretly Canadian? Maybe she just likes hockey?) Tercera should be really good.

CMLL (SUN) 10/18 Arena Mexico
1) Dr. Muerte & Practicante vs Aspirante & Infierno II
2) Bam Bam, Máscara Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Nitro, Pequeño Universo 2000
3) Metro, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Heavy Metal, Naito, Terrible
4) Flash vs Tiger Kid, Ángel de Oro, Pegasso, Tigre Blanco, Rey Cometa, Astro Boy, Hooligan, Dr. X, Skándalo, Arkangel de la Muerte, Pólvora [cage, mask]

Been a while since we’ve got an obvious fake out opener. Figuring a title match is to be added, and to be set up tomorrow. That show features

– Mascarita Dorada (Mexican Minis champ, though we never see that belt)
– Pierrothito (Mexican Lightweight)
– Máscara Dorada (CMLL Super Light)
– Último Guerrero (CMLL Heavyweight)

UG is the one most likely to make a difference in attendance, and you could have him face Shocker with Strong Man in the corner to tease that match. Plus, it works with Friday’s main event pretty well.

  1. The way they announced the Puebla lineup sounds like it’s a trios tournament in the semi-main, not a Torneo Cibernetico.

  2. The world really does balance itself out sometimes…

AAA loses the Groon XXX vs Gronda II feud.

    CMLL gains Strong Man.

  3. Black Warrior’s trivia question of the week: Who gave him permission to use the name Black Panther?

They don’t even need LuchaWiki for that!

  4. @CM93: Just the Cruiserweight match. Kind of dumb since last week they aired the cage match were Koslov lost. Why not re-air that match instead? Rest of show, will be new.

  5. HA! CMLL TV feed which has worked brilliantly for many months now decided to crap out not during the opening trios match but right before the semi-main event that looked like a million bucks.

    Fantastic!

  6. Wow, Televisa jsut cut off the end of the first fall of the main event to show the Mexican Soccer team arriving. I’m not claiming that we missed much, but if you are going to build up next weeks main event with this horrible match, at least make sure it airs.

FYI, Strongman John Andersen is the captain of the tecnico team. Not sure how this makes any sense at all.

  7. This will not be a surprise to anyone, but Strongman is awful. He makes Shocker look quick in the ring.

  8. So sometime between last night and this afternoon, Galavision changed the AAA timeslot. When I went to sleep, I hit “guide” and went to Galavision, and recorded AAA at 5:30p. I just turned the television on, and see it aired earlier in the day. I’ll have to record it on Sunday. Oh well.

  9. BTW, I vote for Dorada vs Pierrothito next Sunday w/ mini’s match getting changed up and a real opener being added to make it a 5 match show.

  10. @LLL: Out west (or on Dish) it was suppose to start at 1 pm, but due to futbol started a little after 1:30. The relevos de locura and mixed tag were good, but I didn’t watch the rest due to beisbol.

@Alan: I found out that if you translate Gronda, it apparently is Strongman in English.:) Rob was right on about the world always balancing things out. Groon XXX is gone from AAA, but CMLL comes up with Strongman and I’m pretty sure CMLL won’t buckle to the same ‘fan pressure’ that AAA supposedly did when it came to future endeavoring Groon.

  11. Gronda was actually a draw at first. We’ll see what happens with Strongman. I say TNA or WWE sees him and gives him a shot.

  12. Semimain was fun but I expected a lot more new spectacular spots. I guess that just shows how spoiled we are these days though since the match had like 3 insane dives and tons of well coordinated spots but I still wanted more.:P It was an excellent match though and really got me excited for next week’s Volador vs Averno match. Crowd seemed to really be into that feud as well.

  13. delayed reaction: did the Charly/Crazy vs Zorro/Chessman tag match get edited off the AAA show (in the US, this weekend)?

Just now splitting up the show for DM and realized something was missing.

  14. @thecubsfan: That AAA tag match never aired in Mexico either. It was the weekend where Charly announced his departure so instead they showed a re-run of the 5 way from Verano to start the show and then began the Tula taping with only 4 matches airing.

  15. ByL board poster says the Toscano, Valiente, Mascara vs Poder Mexica match got cut. Pretty surprising they got rid of that instead of 2 & 3. I like the choice!

  16. @Rob: That’s what I thought happened. But it goes to show that for all AAA’s talk about still expecting Charly to show up for the hair match, they were sure he was gone. Given how long it usually takes for AAA to post-produce, the decision to take that match out had to be made Tuesday/Wednesday.

  17. Now that I think about it, Kris Z and others brought up a good point that all these people going to PdL could be a work/shoot/swerze/Russo. But it’s stupid to stiff fans on a hair match in a major city, on a debut show in a major venue(ArMTY).

  18. @LLL: You clearly know more about Ecatepec than I did when I decided to go.

@Rob: That explains why when I got home thinking I would have just missed the opener TVCDeportes was airing baseball. Wonder if they will do the Wednesday replay this week.

  19. @Rob: IWRG aired today. Piratas vs Officials was fun, hope they can do even more with it next week. The show also reminded me that the Perros crowd wasn’t actually that bad compared to most nonCMLL, nonAAA shows. And, yes I know that their tallent costs are way higher so they need bigger crowds than IWRG.

No Puebla replays listed on the Cablevision guide either.

Anyone know if AAA FSE aired? I taped from 7-9 on Sunday. It was listed at 7:00 on the Cablevision guide, but all I got on tape were soccer highlights. There is supposed to be a showing on Thursday which I would guess will replace next weekends show which isn’t listed anywhere.
