Volador vs UG for the masks? (nah), hair win in IWRG, new champ in GDL, CMLL to Monaco

CMLL (SUN) 10/04 Arena Coliseo [CMLL]
1) Delta & Trueno DQ Semental & Zayco
2) Astro Boy, Metálico, Starman b Calígula, Méssala, René Guajardo Jr.
3) Arkangel de la Muerte, Vangelis, Virus b Dr. X, Guerrero Maya Jr., Pegasso
4) Blue Panther, Místico, Toscano b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Último Guerrero b Volador Jr.

Volador jumped UG out of the gate, UG beat him up, but Volador still stole the fall. UG won a quick second fall. Both guys did all they could in the third, and Ultimo Guerrero beat him clean with the Guerrero Special for the win. “And then they agreed to a mask match.” Just that easy! CMLL.com’s news says UG challenged and Volador just agreed without thinking about it, but there’s no date and this match shouldn’t be taken seriously unless they actually have a date. Doing an actual meaningful mask vs mask feud in Arena Coliseo is strange and enough to make this highly unlikely.

Speaking of dates, CMLL confirms the Yujiro/Black Warrior match will go down on 10/16. Must’ve taken a couple extra days to agree on the contract language!

IWRG (SUN) 10/04 Arena Naucalpan [Estrella del Ring, Black Terry]
1) Extraño b Dinamic Black
2) Eragon & Imperial DQ Maldito Jr. & Samoa
3) El Hijo del Diablo, Tóxico DF, Veneno b Gemelo Fantastico I, Gemelo Fantastico II, Pendulo
4) Chico Che, Exodia, Mike Segura b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Avisman b Gringo Loco [loser advances]
6) Bushi b Avisman [loser advances]
7) Gringo Loco b Avisman [hair]

So, there it is. Proof that Chicago > Naucalpan. I always had a feeling.

I don’t know when they changed the main event to a three way hair match, and they weren’t the only changes on this card, but the story here is Avisman beat Gringo Loco, Bushi beat him, Avisman dominated Gringo Loco in the final match (with both bleeding), but Gringo Loco snuck in a small package for the win.

Kinda worried about what shape Freelance must be after that injury on Thursday. This feels like Avisman had already agreed to lose his hair and probably to Freelance based on that feud, but that they’re not waiting for Freelance to return means he’s out for a while.

Sucidia replaced Rigo, and they went on with the challenge without them. DQ in the second match was for excessive post match violence.

CMLL (SUN) 10/04 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
0) Javier Cruz Jr. b Nube Roja Jr.
1) Metatrón & Nube Roja b Güero Loco & Titanio
2) Angel del Mal b Palacio Negro, Acertijo, Virgo, Saturno, Relampago, El Divino, In Memoria, Meteoro, Thunder Boy [OCCIDENTE WELTER, cibernetico]
3) Hooligan & Loco Max b Fabián el Gitano & Metro
4) Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara

Atlantis got away with a foul on Fantamsa for the pin. Semimain was noteable bad.

Title match came down to Angel del Mal and Saturno, and it’s a slight upset for Satunro to lose. Fuego says the title had been “vacant for over a year”, so whenever Metalik went full time in DF (and before he switched to Mascara Dorada.)

CMLL says they’re sending guys back to Europe – Stuka, Fantasma, Dragon Rojo and Misterioso (instead of Sangre) are headed to Monaco on 10/13, for “a major convention of international television.” Looks like this is Sportel Monaco; CMLL is on between 2:15 and 2:45 on Tuesday, if you’re in Monaco and reading this. This seems about selling the TV in more markets. I’ve got an idea for a market that could use CMLL TV, it’s a bit to your north.

One OEM articles talks up the Xalapa show, but say “AAA gave no exact date”. Maybe they should read the OEM Xalapa paper, which says it’s Friday.

Box Y Lucha teases Tirantes with a Perros del Mal shirt. I’d guess that he’s just running an indy show with multiple promotions (as he’s done before), but I don’t know that for sure.

AAA holds is annual Antonio Pena memorial mass tonight. AAA also has a post asking people what they thought about their new production starting on this past week’s television – did anyone watch it on the stream? Did it look different?

  1. The production for AAA was definitely different this week. Haven’t decided yet if it was a good different, a bad different, or just different. It didn’t help that the first match I saw with it was the cage match.

  2. @Alfredo: I’ve never heard a thing about this since the key drive stopped. I’d figure they’d show it if they had it done.

  3. I saw the stream and it looked different but I thought it had something to do with the video quality of the stream. I did notice the new graphics (the TV show is called ‘Sin Limite’ now – does that ring a bell?) and in between matches they have someone doing a voice-over hyping what’s to come. There were a lot of Pena segments too and for whatever reason they showed clips of every spot from the lights out match so I wonder if that’s being cut next week.

There was also some sort of angle with Tirantes going on between matches but I wasn’t paying attention. Seems weird to do an angle with him if he’s really leaving but who knows what’s up with that. Tirantes leaving AAA would shock me since he’s one of 3 or 4 guys I thought would never leave the promotion since there is nowhere else for them to go and succeed at all.

Dr. X as a tecnico! That should be fun and I’m glad they didn’t do the obvious turning on your own partners deal. Volador Jr./Ultimo looks fun, hopefully it ends up online.

    HOW AMAZING IS BUSHI???

I didn’t put two and two together with Freelance getting hurt and Avisman losing his hair randomly so now I’m also worried about how hurt Freelance is…

  4. BTW Cubs, I’m stunned you missed the biggest news of the day.

    Rouge is dead.

    RUSH is born!

    “LUCHA SEMIFINAL

    MÁXIMO, STUKA JR. Y RUSH

    VS

FELINO, MISTERIOSO JR. Y HEAVY METAL”

I swear it said ‘Rouge’ yesterday so someone changed it on purpose.

  5. Just watched the Freelance injury. He crashed hard into the security rail and almost bounced off of it to land back at ringside. He clearly knew he was done immediately, calling for help.

  6. Piratas and sort of Officials wrestled the entire third fall without a second rope after it broke at the end of the second fall. Two of the Piratas took hard falls since they were jumping on it at the time it broke.
