Mistico wins in straight falls, threatens to retire if he loses his mask

CMLL (FRI) 09/04 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, Notimex, Cesar, Ovaciones]
1) Disturbio & Durango Kid b Bengala & Delta
2) Stuka Jr. b Loco Max [lightning]
3) Hiroka, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei b Dark Angel, Lluvia, Marcela
4) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Valiente DQ Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr. b Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Místico DQ Negro Casas

Mistico won the main event in straight falls, getting the first via La Mistica, and the second when Niebla and Felino ran in. Mistico still ended up stuffing Negro in the trash can, revenge for lat week. That doesn’t sell you much for Negro’s chances in two weeks, though the crowd was behind Negro.

Clean win for the tecnicos in the main event, Texano even taking Volador’s moonsault side slam. Misterioso fouled Maximo for the DQ in the fourth. Cesar says Maximo is worse than La Parka Jr. now.

Disturbio worked the opener in Turbo’s spot (though Ovaciones missed it – oops.) That’s a bit off to be a typo. Plus, it’s hard to make the same exact typo twice. Cesar says Disturbio was unmasked Super Crazy like wrestler, which makes me guess he’s the guy from the DTU show.

For his part, Mistico says he’ll retire from lucha libre if he loses his mask, and just go back to school. So, we’ve now got Negro’s hair vs Mistico’s mask, the hair of all the Perros, and Mistico’s career. Guess it could go either way. Negro really should taunt him with some university applications and a new bookbag next week. He thinks his success in Japan has given him enough momentum to beat Negro, and would like a match with Liger if he beats Casas.

Okumura says he’s not afraid of being hated by the Mexican fans, but in fact that’s kinda what he’s going for. The author of this article seems surprised by this concept.

Mascara Magica and Mictlan discuss their feud in Guadalajara. It’s as you’d expect – Magica feels Mictlan is not a wrestler, just a dancer, and doesn’t come to the ring to wrestle, while Mictlan points out all he’s done lately is wrestle, since Magica beats the heck out of him every time he tries to dance.

In Reynosa, the local police are using a masked wrestler to teach kids to hate criminals and defend themselves against them. I think the real news here is this a tecinco police character actually exists.

In an expansion of previous articles, Perro Aguayo Jr. talks actual numbers and details about his promotion:

– there are 40 wrestlers on roster
– Tickets go for 30 for children, 50 for bleaches, and 100 for ringside.
– they usually sell 90% of tickets
– 40-50% of the fans in Mexico are fans of Los Perros
– Their merchandise is only available on their website, but they hope to be in stores later this year or next. They’d like to expand to more clothing, as well as items for dogs and cars.
– shows cost 50,000 to 300,000 to run
– wrestlers cost from 1,500 ($112) to 100,000 ($7475) per show
– Perros get 10% of the revenue per show, while the promoters get 50%
– Perros hope to be on Cadena3 and Unicable by October.

PerrosdelMal.net does NOT have merchandise on it – doesn’t have anything but cards from February. I don’t think those are actually the ticket prices, and I’m sure there are people on those shows making far less than $112. In light of that, it’s tough to believe any of this (including TV), but it’s interesting as the story Perro is presenting to the public.

DTU has photos from it’s Pachuca show.

X-Torm wants it known that the Rabia who lost his mask on the Rey Misterio Sr. tribute show a few months ago, who was mentioned at the time as also being X-Torm, is actually just a guy who X-Torm let borrow his mask a couple times. X-Torm himself did not lose his mask.

  1. Where do Perro Jr’s comments rank amongst the great BS stories told in wrestling?

PdM hasn’t updated their site since February (or maybe January) and I bet the next update will NOT include merchandise, nor an upcoming lineup, BUT WILL include a post with them ripping the “internet”, which of course would be directed at thecubsfan. LOL!

  2. The Disturbio that worked last night is the same guy we have a LuchaWiki bio for according to Cesar.

  3. Momentos continues to be on fire with all 5(+) clips being dedicated to off-TV matches. Great dive by Molotov, another by Caligula and brutal package piledriver by Skandalo on Pegasso!

  4. If Mascara Dorada was attemping to look like a bigger version of Mistico with his new outfit and gloves, he has succeeded.

Nice double team spots by Azteca/Rojo!

  5. I know I do not know the inner-workings of lucha, since I havent worked in Mexico, but here is my two cents on some of this stuff, based on the fact that I have helped run/promoted shows quite a few times…

    – If there are 40 wrestlers on roster, then they are using way too many guys, or they consider their “roster” guys they only use a couple times in spots. I know it is lucha and full of trios bouts, but that would only be 36 spots a show for six matches. They are obviously using locals and freelance “names”, so I’m curious who they consider on their roster.
    – The ticketprices are pretty reasonable, considering what kind of product they are putting out. This is essentially an indy show, and I wouldnt expect CMLL or AAA prices. Just as how if you go to an indy show in the US, it doesnt have WWE/TNA/ROH ticket prices.
    – If the shows cost 50,000 to 300,000 to run, that is probably directly related to the roster for the show, and capacity of the building. This could help explain the “roster size” actually, because there might be 10 “core guys” that work every PdM show, and 15 that are high end shows, and 15 that are low end.
    – I cannot see the point of paying $7500 to anyone to work an indy show. That *must* be Santo’s price tag.
    – If Perros get 10% of the revenue per show, while the promoters get 50%, well, who gets the other 40%? That cannot possibly be the cost they sink into the show (especially if these shows are “bought” by promoters). I wonder if Perrito’s payday comes out of the promoter’s pot, or the workers.

  6. The ticket prices Perro lists are what they charged for their premier show in the DF last December at least.

  7. Volador in red? That’s… uhhh… interesting.

I just realized we didn’t get the lineups for the week on cmll.com or TV.

  8. @Rob: That was my thought exactly when they showed that semimain.

So, if (when?) Casas loses his hair, what are the chances we get to see him attempt to wrestle entire matches in an afro wig?

  9. For Keith or anyone that cares: LATV is airing the Tony Rivera vs Loco Max hair match episode from October 2008. LOS PERROS FTW

  10. Cibernetico is being interviewed on the show that comes on before lucha libre on CadenaTres.

  11. Guerrero Maya Jr. comes *this close* to being paralyzed. Wonder if he’s hurt and that’s why this match was cut short for a cheap 2nd fall DQ?

  12. Not only was he okay – he did another dive!

Fun match for a short two fall bout. DQ was for Polvora low blowing Tigre Blanco. Are they feuding?

  13. @Alan: It might be even better if SuperLuchas is correct as they have VALIENTE in for SAGRADO. I will take that trade!:D

Tuesday’s card is *STACKED*. All three midcard matches have great teams on each side including Polvora in his first ?ever? tercera @ Arena Mex. The Tueregs and Angeles continue their feud in the segunda.

Friday is pretty weak though. La Mascara vs Terrible is the Lightning Match. Ummm… yeah. Anyways, Lyger teams with No Limit in his return against Atlantis, Black Warrior and Ultimo Guerrero. I get the feeling Ultimo Guerrero and Lyger are having a singles match to headling the 25th. Maybe for the Universal Title?

The big match may be Sunday @ Coliseo – MISTICO, SOMBRA, VOLADOR JR. VS LYGER & NO LIMIT!

  14. Fox Mexico yesterday had the sort of Tuaregs vs Cometa/Fabian/Leono and Mistico/Casas. My tape cut off after the first fall of the title match, so not sure how it compared to Friday’s match.

  15. @Alan: Hmmm… wonder if 52MX is getting the Arena Mexico undercard stuff or if it’s the other two Sunday matches and no more Friday stuff is making weekend TV because of TDN.

  16. WHO THE “BLOODY” HELL CARES AT ALL ABOUT THE MEN!!!!! WHAT HAPPENJED IN THE WOMENS MATCH?? I COULD THROW A $20.00 ON THE FLOOR OF A BAR AND TELL THE WHOLE BAR WHOEVER RECOVERED IT WOULD GET TO KEEP IT AND GET A FREE DRINK AND I’D HAVE A BETTER MATCH THAN ANY MENS MATCH ANYWHERE!!! ALL PROMOTIONS SHOULD THINK ABOUT THAT, AND SCHEDULE MORE WOMENS BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE DOES!!!!
