Pena Memorial card, Alex Koslov, Hijo de Rey Misterio

CMLL
CMLL

AAA says a new cruiserweight champion will be decided at Verano de Escandalo, with the same six guys who’ve continued to face each other, minus Alex. The two title matches are all that’s officially announced. Guessing the rest

– the Pena gauntlet match
– either Fabi vs Sexi or Fabi/Aero vs Sexi/Billy
– something with the Grondas, though very unlikely to be the mask match this soon
– and either the minis or the Clowns to work the opener.

Going back to Alex – he’s posted on his mySpace and his twitter that he’s done with AAA and says he’s talked with CMLL (and specifically Paco Alonso) about coming back. I tend to think he’s still going to return to AAA and this is just a fakeout, but it’s been enough to put doubt in my mind, and that’s sort of the point. The only thing here I completely can not believe is Paco Alonso sends people emails. Having people send emails for him, maybe.

Previews of today’s CMLL Fan Appreciation show: ESTO, Ovaciones. Main event is Super Sky Team vs UG/Niebla/Felino, while everyone wonders if there will be a run-in. Semimain is Trio de Terror vs Trios Champs, and we wait to see what title match comes out of it.

Hablando de Catch has an interview with Hijo de Rey Misterio, who’s hoping to make it into CMLL or AAA, and talks about being in Nebraska and being told he was wrestling in Boliva. The irony of someone faking to be Hijo de Rey Misterio seems lost on him, though.

Fuego en el Ring has an interview with Hector Garza, which is quite a bit of answering Mistico’s interview last week. I got the complaint wrong last week – Mistico wasn’t accusing Mictlan of ripping him off, he was accusing Hector Garza of ripping Mictlan off. That’s just cold. Garza points out he was first, Sombra & Volador were part of (one of Garza’s) groups first, and his guys were the first wearing t-shirts and now Mistico’s saying only he can wear shirts. Garza’s happy to be in the anniversary, so he can prove Mexican wrestling beats Japanese wrestling. He’s also looking to get a hair match with “the Japanese” (Naito) or a tag title match with Terrible and Texano.

Also in Fuego, Misterioso II is going with the “Arena Coliseo Guadalajara is a Arena Coliseo” theory on getting a shot at Stuka & Flash. I love that this isn’t just something crazy I’m making up, but a real explanation. Misterioso wore his old Super Spider mask to the ring on Sunday, which he used when he started out 11 years ago (and wrestled as in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara.)

Naito visited Teotihuacan. I presume Yujiro was too busy hitting on women.

Kcidis illustrates Blue Panther vs Averno.

Luchas 2000 #485 has Mistico vs Negro.

Edit: Even though no poll will ever beat “we think the guy who had a rod put in his leg is faster than these other two” for a result, the Koslov stuff makes me think we need a new one:

  1. Do you think Paco has a @cmll.com email account or is it gmail, hotmail or Yahoo!?

I found Mr. Alonso’s twitter account! Here’s the first tweet he wrote (I translated it myself because I didn’t want babelfish to fuck it up)…

SITTING RINGSIDE. WATCHING MICTLAN AND ROUGE WORK ON POSES FOR UPCOMING BODYBUILDING COMPETITION! HOLD UP! GOING TO SEND KOSLOV EMAIL! BRB!

I believe he sent it late last night. Interesting. I will await his next tweet.

  2. My gut is that Koslov will be in the Legion soon, but I hope they at least hold off long enough to capitalize on the fact that people are talking about it.

Two random (and contradictory) things about this. First, didn’t he jump to AAA about a year ago? If so, it seems possible that he had a one year contract and it is expiring now. Second, his twitter account references having moved into a new apartment in Mexico City recently. Seems like an odd move for a guy who wasn’t sure if he had work in Mexico for more than a month or two.

  3. I voted “Yes! Don’t you read mySpace?” not because I believe it, but because it made me laugh out loud.

  4. Koslov should do a Russian mobster from Brighton Beach gimmick. He should go to the US, and work ROH or try to get in the WWE.

  5. I voted for “Yes! Don’t you read mySpace?” just for shits & giggles, &for the fact that I thought it was funny. But seriously, didn’t Koslov leave CMLL on bad terms ? If he doesn’t return to CMLL, where else is he going to go ? Indys, Perros, Super X (If it’s still exists by then), ROH, TNA, ??

  6. Alex Koslov could/would return to CMLL, if they allowed him to have the same type of contract that TNA gave Sarita (Sarah Stock). I voted “Yes” that Alex Koslov is gone from AAA and I’m almost positive that he will be making his return to TNA and will be making his return to CMLL very shortly.

  7. I also believe that AK is going back to EMLL. I actually called that one. I see him joining TNA as well and being a member of the World Elite.

  8. Since TNA is looking for international talent, no doubt Kozlov will go to TNA and join the World Elite.

  9. Tercera Caida’s highlights of Dragonmania looked like it was probably a fun show. How often does he run shows there? I’d like to go to one, but always find out about them relatively late.

  10. I’m now even more convinced Koslov will be going back after seeing his post match interview on Tercera Caida. He talked about how he was still champion and was being discriminated against for being Russian. He also mentioned the possibility of going to CMLL at that point already and I think he may have implied that he would take the title with him.

  11. @Alan: that should be convinced he is going to the Legion.

And just to remind everyone that AAA is nothing like AAA, Tercera Caida followed up highlights of AAA’s loser leaves town cage match with highlights of Jeff Hardy losing his loser leaves town cage match. Of course WWE at least had the sense to put the title on the line in their match so that the person leaving town wouldn’t have it. Oh, and Hardy is actually leaving for a while.

  12. The problem with Koslov returning to CMLL is it really makes Paco look weak in the eyes of his own talent. Paco is known as a guy who isn’t a huge fan of foreigners and here is Koslov… a young arrogant punk… who was given everything – an immediate push, an immediate title shot, a tecnico turn which made him a well known name enough to tour as a main eventer and how did he repay CMLL? He left the promotion without any warning at all.

So how would it look if Paco brought him back? He’s certainly got the look of someone whom Paco can’t get enough of which is the main advantage he has going over anyone else who would pull something like this.

So I’m hoping we don’t see him in CMLL rings. I’m also hoping the AAA thing is legit and they don’t take him back b/c I’m all for arrogant pricks getting what they deserve. Koslov is a young guy who has been told he is the shit since day one and he certainly believe it now. It would do him good to be forced to return to the U.S. indy scene and toil around doing much of nothing with the odd embarassing TNA appearence. Maybe it’ll teach him next time you have a secure job as a semi-main/main eventer in a company that has treated you well, you DON’T leave just b/c nobody gave you a fake title.

  13. @Rob: I won’t claim to know Alex Koslov, but I met him briefly a few weeks ago. He didn’t strike me as an “arrogant prick.” I don’t know what is going on, and as I’ve stated above, I expect that he hasn’t actually left AAA, but that this is part of an angle for him to join the Legion. That being said, its possible he values titles too much, but I don’t think he is a bad person in any way. He is young, but if you don’t want the status symbol to prove you are the best, why be in a profession?

@LLL: I just have a hard time believing that AAA would create a new title, do two title changes in a couple of months and then let the title holder walk out of the company with the belt. I know I’m giving those in charge too much credit, but it seems like a stretch that they let Koslov walk with the title and do interviews with press in their backstage area (even though the same could have been said about Ciber several months ago).

  14. What I’m saying is, Koslov wanted a belt so bad, he paid for it to be made with his own money(belts cost a few hundred bucks), and he owns it so he can leave with it. Sounds like something an indy mark worker would do, but hey, it’s possible here.

  15. @LLL: OK, that is “possible”, but I still think it is way more likely that this is all a work. I don’t have much faith in AAA, but I it is unlikely they would let someone bring in their own belt, recognize it, and then not have that person under contract for more than a few months after the belt debuts. And, if we are going to assume that Koslov is a total mark who would buy his own belt just because he cares that much, why would he drop it to Extreme Tiger at TripleMania?

  16. the AAA website is such a source of misinformation, they called the Megacampeonato the “EL MEGACAMPEONATO UNIFICADO DE PESO COMPLETO”, I’ve never heard the word “Unified” used before? Unless they’ve decided to unify the UWA World title with it too?

  17. September 2nd: ROH officials had a lengthy discussion with representatives of AAA star Alex Koslov yesterday.
