09/18 Arena Mexico Lineup (76th Anniversary Show)

CMLL (FRI) 09/18 Arena Mexico
1) Dark Angel & Lady Apache vs Amapola & Hiroka
2) Bam Bam, Eléctrico, Pequeño Olímpico vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mascara Dorada, Sagrado vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
4) La Máscara, La Sombra, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Black Warrior, Héctor Garza, Shocker, Último Guerrero vs Jushin Liger, Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro
6) Místico vs Negro Casas [mask, hair]

Probably more when I have a chance to think this over, but the quick is

  • Minis and women making it as a surprise. A good one, though who’d ever figure Electrico.
  • Liger matched up with UG? Hmmm. Liger is listed as a tecnico for no good reason.
  • I guess Sombra and Volador don’t know they’re not supposed to like Hectro’s friends.
  • this should be a great show, if given time.

  1. Looks like tickets go on sale tomorrow. Prices are way lower than Dos Leyendas according to ticketmaster, ranging from 120-500 pesos.

  2. And if they don’t bill Lyger as a tecnico, they wouldn’t be able to bill it as “RELEVOS ATOMICOS INCREIBLES”

  3. Would it have killed them to do a title match? And Averno, Mephisto, Texano Jr not making the show is a disappointment.

  4. Boy Okumura must LOVE being the only regular Japanese wrestler on the roster. Otherwise he wouldn’t have a shot at cracking this lineup but now he’s a semi-main eventer.:P His last (and only other) Anniversary Show appearence? … 2005. Why did he make it on that card and so high? Two guys named Tanahashi and Nakamura were around and needed a third.:P

Strong show on paper. Right now it just remains to be seen whether they do it for free TV and need to rush the opening four matches through or whether it’s on PPV and they just need to rush the opening two matches and then scramble for time come the semi-main.

As already noted the two wrestlers who are absent that stick out the most would be Mascarita Dorada and Hijo Del Texano.

Dorada may have been less noticeable if the mini’s had not been included or if Dragoncito was in for Electrico. Electrico just really sticks out like a sore thumb in that match.

Texano Jr. had his breakout year with the surprise win over Atlantis, Maximo and advancing all the way to the final of the Universal Title tournament. He’s the future of the company so his absence is confusing. Perhaps it’s more who is he alligned with though as Terrible didn’t make the cut and Texano has teamed with the Japanese guys in the recent past so sticking him on Team Mexico wouldn’t make much sense. Still wouldn’t shock me if he was in the fill-in role if Black Warrior or Shocker are up to their old antics.

If you want to nitpick you could also say Sagrado should be out for Valiente but that’s minor.

Notice Felino M.I.A. from the lineup as well. Leaving room for a last second addition if need be?

I’m glad the womens opener was made a tag. That division needs to have more tags as I’ve stated before. It should be their “speacialty” w/o a title being created as CMLL loves to do.

Every match has the possibility to be ‘good’ at the very least so we should all be happy about that. CMLL could have done much worse by adding guys like Heavy Metal, Lizmark Jr., Ray Mendoza Jr., Mictlan, Maximo and Mr. Niebla. Don’t get me wrong, I love Niebla but his mathces up being 100% comedy which I don’t think belong on the biggest show of the year.

  5. If you guys really want something to complain about re: CMLL, just check out this note from their news page that Cubs has avoided mentioning:

“Shocker presentó una sorpresa pues, la mañana del jueves 27 de agosto en la Arena México, ante todos los medios, dio a conocer a un nuevo Guapo, con más de 130 kilos de poder y siendo uno de los hombres más fuertes del mundo llega al CMLL, JON STRONGMAN, con un físico que sin duda impactará al público mexicano.”

Yes, a new 130 kilo Guapo named JON STRONGMAN. I’m sure that has to be his real name and I’m sure this has nothing to do with them feeling they need their own Groon XXX.

  6. Jon Strongman… I believe that would have to be “Strongman” Jon Andersen who’s been wrestling mainly on Pro Wrestling Revolution shows over in Cali as well as in Inoki’s fed over in Japan. He’s a big jacked up dude with a blonde hair.

  7. That is exactly who it is….. He and Shocker met for the first time in King City and Shocker left the show wanting to bring him to Mexico City.

  8. Don’t forget that they’ll also have Yujiro/Black Warrior soon (thinking now it’ll have to be after or they would’ve announced it at the press conference.) That’s not going to do an anniversary house, but it still should be one of the bigger shows of the year and they’ll probably work in guys who didn’t make this show.

I read Electrico instead of Dorada as CMLL rewarding Electrico for having the physique they’re looking for, and Dorada either being booked elsewhere or CMLL favoring someone who they control their bookings, as opposted to Dorada’s semi-independent bit. (But then, I still would’ve put Dragoncito in before Electrico.)

The new Guapo news wasn’t up when I looked. That’ll probably be bad.

  9. Who’s Hectro?

Liger is loved in mexico, I think CMLL thought it’d be a good idea to team him with his countrymen. Mexico Vs Japan deal.

I don’t like that Panther is not on here either.

And Black Warrior does not look like Dennis Rodman

  10. Anyone been checking in on LATV lately? Of course they still have Ras de Lona, but I keep forgetting to see what’s happening with Fri and Sat CMLL. It’s still listed, so I’d check sometimes just to be sure. Who knows? Could pop up again.
