CMLL 52MX #191 (07/18)

taped 07/12

Why is it this show I pick to watch of all CMLL? Wish I had a good reason.

Flash, Metro, Stuka Jr. © vs Euforia ©, Nosferatu, Vangelis: part 1, part 2 – good, not great. Metro is really strong if nothing else, and it’s always nice to have people who are at least good at something in particular.

La Mascara, La Sombra ©, Valiente vs Black Warrior ©, Heavy Metal, Shigeo Okumura: part 1 part 2 – Warrior was interesting here. I would bet large sums of money there are about 50 interesting Black Warrior stories that people inside the business know but people on the outside never well.

Chico Che takes Terry’s hair, Hator loses his, GDL sets up mask match, Mexico

AAA has a TV taping in, uh, 10 hours. Don’t think they’ll get that lineup in time.

IWRG (SUN) 08/16 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Blasfemia & Menfis b AE & Exodia
2) Freelance, Star Boy, Suicida b Capitán Muerte, Gringo Loco, Signo Jr.
3) Avisman b Trauma II [IWRC IC LIGHT]
4) Ricky Cruz L Chico Che, Trauma I, Oficial AK47, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Black Terry, Bushi, Fantasma de la Ópera, Jack, Arlequin [hair]

Order of escape was Arlequin, Ricky Cruz, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Jack, Fantasma de la Opera, Bushi, Trauma I, AK47 (who had a bloody war with Trauma I by the looks of it) which left Chico Che and Black Terry. Against all odds, Chico Che flattened Black Terry with a plancha and climbed out for the win.

indy (SUN) 08/16 Arena Solidaridad [RFC]
1) Baby Fox & Burrito b Quinto Misterio & Tequilita
2) Apolo Estrada Jr., Gatito Volador, Magnifico, Martha Villalobos b Cats, Linda Star, Mini Hator, Raiden
3) Imagen I, Imagen II, Imagen III b Chica de Arabia, Orquidea Negra, Sexy Piscis
4) Aventurero, Leo Vencen, Monje Negro, Vaquero Romo b Angel o Demonio, Krakatoa, Mosco de la Merced, X-Fly
5) Damián 666, Halloween, Mr. Águila b Diluvio Negro II, Estrella Dorada, Zumbido
6) Hator L Diluvio Negro I, Konnan Big, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo [hair, mask]

Hator lost his hair to Diluvio Negro. Building was 80% full for Perro Jr. putting his hair up.

CMLL (SUN) 08/16 Arena Mexico
1) Puma King & Tiger Kid b As Jr. & Molotov
2) Dr. X, Durango Kid, Pólvora b Leono, Metálico, Tigre Blanco
3) Lady Apache, Lluvia, Sahori ?? La Nazi, La Seductora, Princesa Blanca
4) Naito, Terrible, Yujiro b Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Hijo de Lizmark
5) Valiente b Sangre Azteca [MEX WELTER]
6) La Sombra, Shocker, Volador Jr. DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Ovaciones writes about this show, skips mentioning the women’s match. Oh well. They say Valiente is champion #70, which would mean we’re missing 2 of those. CMLL.com says Sangre successfully defended the title 18 times, so we’re only missing 6 of those.

CMLL (SUN) 08/16 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring, MT]
1) Cometa b Tragedia
2) Angelo & Saturno b Ebola & Expreso
3) Metal Blanco & Neutrón b Angel del Mal & Rafaga
4) Hierro & Milenio b Acertijo & Novato
5) Ephesto, Máscara Mágica, Skandalo b Mictlán, Rouge, Sagrado
6) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Averno, Mephisto, Texano Jr.

Blue Panther got Averno for the clean win. Mascara Magica replaced Heavy Metal in the semimain, and Mictlan hurt a forearm in a match. Teams in the fourth match fought after the match – they’ll all meet in a mask match next week.

Toryumon Mexico (SAT) 08/22 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas]
1) Mascarita Dorada vs Pequeno Boricua, Pequeno Dragon
2) Brazo de Oro vs Brazo de Plata, Skandalo, Azteca, Durango Kid, Shigeo Okumura, Trueno
3) Ayumi Kurihara vs Mima Shimoda, Hiroka, Marcela
4) Negro Navarro vs Solar I
5) Místico, Shocker, Tiger Mask IV vs Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero
6) Último Dragón vs Ohara [mask, hair]

Tiger Mask IV coming in so soon after Mistico winning his match means probably a round of teasing that rematch in Mexico. Far more interesting to me is the surprise return of Rey Bucanero; he wasn’t supposed to be back until December, and it sure doesn’t feel December right now. I hope this is a good thing and he’s not rushing back.

Dragon took Hajime’s mask (as Dark Dragon) last year on a NWE tour and this is the latest match in their never ending feud.

Box Y Lucha 2935 has Verano de Escandalo’s main event on the cover.

Cesar previews Friday’s card, looks at moves that have lost their effectiveness, and Mistico winning outside of CMLL

AAA #894 (07/18)

Welcome to the week where I completely catch up on AAA. I’m all done, but I thought I’d spread them out to one a day to prevent them from blending together in your mind. They’ve already blended together in my mind, but what are you going to do. (Maybe “don’t get a month behind on these things.”)

taped 06/20, 07/18

Aerostar, Fabi Apache, Mari Apache vs Billy Boy, Cinthia Moreno, Sexy Star – that was quite the neckbreaking finish. It’s too bad they can’t find a way to use Mari more often. I mean, I don’t want to have the Apaches fighting again, but if she got a mask, I think we’d all be willing to pretend not to be able to tell

Crazy Boy, Extreme Tiger, Ultimo Gladiador vs Decnnis, Joe Lider, Nicho el Millionario – early on in a run of quite a Decnnis TV matches. I don’t know why everything aligned like it did, but it’s better than getting Brazo in this spot. This was a lot of moves, of course

Jack Evans vs Teddy Hart part 2 – so was this, to a numbing degree. For the finish, it was way too long. Even without the finish, it was Teddy doing moves for 12 minutes, and Jack doing a comeback where all those moves didn’t matter much. So, you know…

La Parka Jr., Latin Lover, Marco Corleone vs Chessman, Electro Shock, Oriental – a perfectly fine spot show main event

El Mesías vs Dr. Wagner Jr. – not even close to TripleMania, but also didn’t feel close to a finish when Cibernetico showed up, given what they did to each other last time. I guess, given what happens after, Cibernetico is actually telling the truth and Wagner really has been running from him for months and is really a coward? The whole Wagner thing does not become much clearer watching the show, for sure.
