Oficials retain in Naucalpan, notes on tonight’s shows

IWRG (THU) 08/13 Arena Naucalpan [EdR, Mr. Reyes, twitter/the gladiatores]
1) Keshin Black b Imperial
2) Blasfemia & Heavy Boy b Eragon & Star Boy
3) Avisman & Gringo Loco CO Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
4) Barba Roja, Hijo de Pirata Morgan, Pirata Morgan Jr. b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
5) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Negro Navarro, Trauma II, Trauma II [IWRG IC TRIOS]

Navarros took the first fall, Oficials took second and third. Piratas won again, and will get a title match in the next two falls. Gemelos celebrated their return by losing the first fall, then somehow getting counted out in the second fall.

Ovaciones hypes Nitro return as the big story of tonight’s Arena Mexico. It’s great that Nitro is back, but that doesn’t say much for the show. Everyone says six matches, so the trio listed on ESTO appears to be correct.

Really, it’s the AAA taping and the Puebla shows which are the two big matches. ESTO previews that first, noting 08/10 was the 17th anniversary of the CMLL minis division.

Estrellas del Ring also has an interview with Konnan Big and indy wrestler Sioux

The Gladiatores has interviews with Martha Villalobos, Tercera Caida announcers, and from the Super X press conference. Their debut show is tomorrow.

Cesar rates last week’s CMLL wrestlers. Sagrado was really the big midcard guy? Worrisome. Also, he’s critical of those were critical of Apolo Dantes but are now working with him.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update.

Lucha Libre Premier press conference notes

Luchando Libre has the point system for the Lucha Libre Premier championship, from yesterday’s press conference to hype it. (So, no, it’s not canceled.) This is delightful:

  • everyone on the winning team gets 3 points
  • person who personally picks up the win gets 3 points
  • “whoever makes the most dramatic movement of the show”, 1 point.
  • DQs will cost you one point

Top 2 point gets face off at the end of the season for the championship.

Chances AAA has this all planned out now: 0%
Chances AAA keeps this all straight: 30%

I’d like to obsessively track this on the site, because that’s what I do, but the best wrestler of the show point is going to be tough to figure from results. I guess they could make this clear, but, uh, they won’t. They’ll just do random matches, and they we’ll end up with 2 of Wagner, Cibernetico and Mesias (if they’re all there) having a match at the end. I know this. And yet…

At the press conference yesterday, the two mystery women were announced as Rain (announced under her real name) and Koa-Marie Gabric, a WWE 2007 Diva Search woman who I have absolutely no recollection of. I’m sure she’ll be fantastic. Konnan will be color commentator for the show, for those who are in withdrawal.

The Televisa Deportes doesn’t even specifically mention the channel the show is on, so not a lot of news there.

First show is tonight. Results are appreciated.

Edit: The Koa-Marie Gabric name is still in my search box, and I’m thinking about how I know I’ve seen that name before, somewhere. And then it finally clicks – Koa Marie is the heel valet on all the GALLI shows and I’ve seen her plenty of times. She’s a lovely person who works well as the hot girl with the jerk boyfriend, but…you know, maybe she’s been working matches some place else, since GALLI hasn’t really run women’s matches and I’m sure she and Rain will work out something in advance, but from the physical interactions I’ve seen her in GALLI, in-ring wrestler is not the role for her at this point. (She’s Nikki, really.) I’m happy for her getting the opportunity, just like it’s cool every time Gringo Loco’s name pops up in IWRG, but this is not a good casting decision by AAA.
