New IWRG Tag Champs, Averno wins mask, Coliseo, GDL

Almost just the results today. At least there’s a lot of interesting stuff.

IWRG (SUN) 08/09 Arena Naucalpan [Estrellas del Ring]
1) Guizmo b Comando del Diablo
2) Carta Brava Jr. & Hijo del Signo b Exodia & Goleador
3) Freelance, Jack, Pendulo DQ Arlequin Amarillo, Arlequin Rojo, Arlequin Verde
4) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Bushi, Chico Che, Rigo
5) Ricky Cruz & Scorpio Jr. b Hijo del Cien Caras & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. [IWRG IC TAG]

Third fall saw the Jr. Capos beat Scorpio Jr., but Ricky Cruz beat them both to win the tag team titles. Not the way I thought that was going. Scorpio and Ricky Cruz are 14th champions, both winning these belts for the first time. Jr. Capos held the belts since May of 2007, for 801 days.

Chico Che missed a dive and Black Terry picked up the win. Tercera was all about Jack and Arlequin Amarillo (the original) feuding, with Jack’s mask getting yanked for the DQ.

CMLL (SUN) 08/09 Lagos de Moreno [goldvillano @ elmartinete]
1) Metálico & Sensei b Apocalipsis & Zayco
2) Pequeño Damian 666 & Pierrothito b Pequeño Olímpico & Tzuki
3) Dark Angel & Lady Apache b Amapola & La Nazi
4) Máximo & Sagrado b Arkangel de la Muerte & Dr. X
5) Averno b Plata [mask]

Plata won the first with an escalera, Averno took the second, Plata went for the escalera again in the third, but Averno reversed it into the finish. Plata’s name was not audible over the microphone – they were taping this for Ras de Lona, so figure on it turning up next week – but he did say he was from Guadalajara, 20 years a wrestler.

CMLL (SUN) 08/09 Arena Coliseo [Ovaciones, Record]
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II b Camorra & Inquisidor
2) Estrella Magica, Lluvia, Marcela b La Seductora, Princesa Sujei, Yezca
3) Fabian el Gitano, Flash, Valiente b Ephesto, Heavy Metal, Sangre Azteca
4) Hector Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, Volador Jr. b Hijo del Lizmark, Naito, Ultimo Guerrero
5) Shocker b Yujiro

Talk of hair matches at the main event. Valiente won again, and he and Sangre agreed to a title match next Monday.

CMLL (SUN) 08/09 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT, Informador, fuego en el ring]
1) Meteoro & Nube Roja b Ebola & Skaxy
2) Acertijo & Milenio b Hierro & Novato
3) Mictlan, Rogue, Stuka Jr. b Hooligan, Loco Max, Polvora
4) Mascara Dorada b Virus [CMLL SL]
5) Mephisto, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Blue Panther, La Mascara, La Sombra

Mephisto pinned Panther with his feet on the ropes. Dorada retained the titles.

Box Y Lucha #2934 has Negro pinning Mistico this past Friday.

  1. For the person that asked how I can get excited for a match that will most likely never show up: Fuego En El Ring’s youtube account uploaded clips of last Sunday’s show.;) It’s about time that website did something useful.

    TZUKI SHOWED!

Hope Chico Che is ready for his first hair loss.

  2. @Alan: HE’S A LITTLE BALL OF FIRE! When he actually shows up that is. I was quite afraid he would be the one to lose his mask in both mini’s cage matches earlier this year. I don’t really have any fear that he will be the one losing this time…

… which makes me very afraid.

  3. Fox Sports tapings are gonna be held on August 14 and 15 in Mexico City, they’ll tape 8 cards for 16 weeks, I suppose. Mark should know since he was in Fox Sports talking about it. Aransay said something but I couldn’t make sense out of it

  4. @xuisaw: any word on location? This really does sound like Jakked if they are taping that many shows at once they will clearly not be tied into storylines. Hopefully that means good matches.

  5. Corleone stopped posting here after he explained why he jumped to AAA. Now we’re stuck with Joe Lider!

  6. @xuisaw: He said:

  7. Again with this Anonymous. Sorry. LLL. Rebooted computer.

Anyway, this Fox Sports deal is interesting. Especially at a time when Televisa is launching a sports network that they have said will compete directly with Fox Sports.

Even more interesting is the fact that LATV aired another old CMLL episode on Saturday night.

  8. 14 y 15 de Agosto en el Foro Scotiabank.

    El cartel es el siguiente.

4ta. Lucha. Lucha de Pesos Completos
    Marco Corleone Cibernético
    El Mesías vs. Kenzo Suzuky

    3era. Lucha. Lucha Espectacular
    Dr. Wagner Jr. Electroshock
    Jack Evans vs. Alex Koslov
    Rocky Romero Teddy Hart

    2nda. Lucha. Lucha de Mujeres
    Faby Apache vs. Sexy Star

1era. Lucha. Lucha de Relevos Atómicos de Locura
El Elegido Deccnis con el Guapito
    Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro
    Pimpinela Escarlata Polvo de Estrellas

First row tickets are at 700 pesos so they’re going against the Fan appreciation approach from cmll, I don’t know if they’ll hold the same matches twice in a row or the poster just got the first lineup, but it seems there would be a tourney for some kind of trophy during the first season (8 tapings announced, although it is not clear if they all will be held in that Foro Scotiabank). I guess they could do a regular opening match + the tourney deal. But we’ll find soon enough as the tapings should be done this weekend and aired by the next one.

  9. Aransay seems to say that Foro Scotiabank is 10 blocks away from his house, and says something about AAA being own by PAPSA or Televisa (in the AAA merchandising, the copyright says that AAA is own by PAPSA, not Televisa, but who knows)

They would held 2 shows per night, if they do back to back shows, 4 shows per week, so who knows how would angles fit with the Sunday show.

  10. @xuisaw: OH! I had that card, like days ago. No idea it was meant to be a TV taping. Wasn’t clear to me either if it was supposed to be the same lineup two days in a row.

2 tapings = 4 shows = they don’t have to bother with this a month. If they’re doing in DF, it shouldn’t be hard to just do them monthly, keeping everything updated and relevant (if unlikely to progress anything) without wearing people out. Actually, the opposite of wearing people out, AAA crew is surely thrilled about the possibility of working without busing for hours.

@LLL: if I can’t trust twitter, then who can I trust? sigh.

I think the idea is LATV owns the rights to show the 26-ish new episodes they got for a long long time, but they’re just being used as schedule filler (like everything else on that station.)

  11. If you go to Ticketmaster, they only have these two shows listed for that venue. I think 8 shows in two weeks is a misunderstanding.

    Day 2 lineup, AFAIK

4ta. Lucha. Lucha de Pesos Completos
    El Mesías Cibernético
Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. Kenzo Suzuky
    Rocky Romero Sugi San

    3era. Lucha. Lucha Espectacular
    Marco Corleone ElectroShock
    Jack Evans vs. Alex Koslov
    El Zorro Chessman

2nda. Lucha. Lucha de Relevos Mixtos
    Faby Apache vs. Sexy Star
    Octagoncito Mini Abismo Negro

When you think Peso Completo, Sugi San comes to mind. No opener listed. There are a few guys who are on one and off the other, but it’s mostly the same crew – so maybe Elegido/Pimpi vs Decnnis/Polvo.

  12. There is NOTHING I would like more than to see the AAA braintrust try to plan out 2 months worth of angles for one weekend of tapings. Imagine the possibilties! It could be WCW 1994 level hilarity when they’d do the 3 months worth of tapings at a time!

    Please let this happen.

  13. @thecubsfan:

    “2 tapings = 4 shows”

This is what I think is the deal, but I don’t know if it would be Scotiabank on a monthly basis. El Zorro is tecnico there? I think they’ll run 16 shows on total, but it doesn’t mean that they’ll tape everything on a week.

Televisa couldn’t care less about either AAA or CMLL on any channel, it’s called TDN and Fox Sports, but they’re really Televisa Soccer Network and Fox Soccer LA, televisa wants to get the Copa Libertadores rights, they don’t give a damn about anything else.

  14. @thecubsfan: I remember when you posted the Twitter link. You’re probably right. They must’ve meant “new episodes”.

What I always found interesting is that the trademark on CMLL on LATV clearly stated “Fox Sports and MVS”. It was always just “MVS” when they were on Fox Sports. There must have been a disputed between Fox and MVS over ownership. MVS probably feels like it’s their show while Fox felt that they were paying for content and they should own the show. Nets are picky about this shit. Either way, Fox is useless for Lucha due to their commitment to live sports.

I guess MVS will look for a new buyer of the Sunday shows, or go with two-hours of CMLL from Coliseo.

  15. Looks like generic rudos vs tecnicos, so no need to advance storylines. I was hoping for more interesting lineups with it not being the regulars, but if they are taping in DF, I guess this makes sense.

Ticketmaster also lists Luchadora Sorpresa on each side of the Fabi/Sexi match, so maybe it is supposed to be a tag? Anyone else find it odd that they are putting Wagner vs Electroshock in a trios match one week after they announced that Electro was part of Wagnermania? Maybe the card is “subject to change”.

Foro Scotiabank is only a couple of blocks from my house, so if it works out, I may pick up tickets. Can anyone explain to me the VIP/Preferente seating since they are shown at the back of the seating chart on the ticketmaster page? I’m assuming these are actually the first few rows, but its definitely not clear from this.

The ticket prices look high for shows like this, but they are running in Polanco, so maybe they are just counting on people being able to pay for the convenience? If they start running tapings in Mexico City once a month, how crazy will CMLL go trying to come up with big shows?

  16. @xuisaw: I think PAPSA owns the individual gimmicks. I think the name AAA is owned by Televisa. AAA must be owned by Televisa, as they used it even before getting into Lucha. AAA was the name of Televisa’s concert promotions and artist management division.

  17. VIP would mean that you get to be in an area set apart from the rest, with better chairs, more space, probably even a table, maybe a bottle of Tequila or something (although it would have to be 1 bottle per table and each table for 4 persons), even if the bottle is not included, you’d be expected to buy one, probably not worth it if you attend for the actual show as opposed to some guys who go to get drunk.

I think it is very likely the card is subject to change.

  18. “AAA y LLL ® los luchadores y todos los derechos relacionados son propiedad de Promociones Antonio Peña, S.A. de C.V. © Derechos reservados 2008. ”

That’s at the bottom of their homepage, and in their merchandising. Who knows, maybe Televisa at one point thought it was not worth it and sold them the rights, or, as Tapia would say “I forgot to register it and Pena stole it from me”

Obviously they don’t own “todos los luchadores”, but they specifically mention AAA.

  19. It also should be noted that although Televisa Deportes Networks has Televisa in its name, it’s Estadio W going from radio to TV with Televisa money/ownership, but management and organization is unrelated, actually, Jorge Alarcon was very angry at TDN being managed by Francisco Gonzales, so CMLL running on Gala and TDN at the same time is not miss-communication or dumbness, they’re going at each other’s throats.

  20. Random poster in byl said there would be some kind of “Campeonato Comex” involved, and that they just mentioned Lucha Libre, but never the AAA brand… we’ll know in less than 2 weeks.

  21. @xuisaw: My take on this is that Televisa wants to keep certain properties in the name of Grupo W for legal reasons, to work their way around the Program License Agreement with Univision in the United States. Be interesting to see if TDN gets any affiliates in the US next year.

I’m sure Televisa would just love to feature CMLL and AAA exclusively on TDN, even though both companies would object.

  22. Did luchalibreusa.com add a video to the Cookie Jar story? My computer isn’t reading it, but I thought maybe someone here could view it and let us know.

  23. ESTO’s Friday lineup actually has a sixth match for Arena Mexico this Firday…

    Dorada/Stuka Jr./Valiente vs Virus/Efesto/Misterioso II.

  24. Not reading too much into this about the AAA/Televisa name ownership, but I did notice that Ticketmaster lists the event as “Lucha Libre Premier” and the graphic is titled “Lucha Libre Campeonato Premier”. Pretty sure that for Triplemania and other AAA shows I’ve noticed there they were listed as Lucha Libre AAA.

So, it sounds like the tournament is going to be some sort of points system?

I’m kind of shocked at how poorly promoted and publicized these shows have been. They are happening within walking distance of my apartment and the first I hear about it is a few days before they happen? I don’t recall seeing anything about it on AAA TV last week, though I could have easily missed that. It doesn’t look like they have anythign on their website. For that matter, they were at the LuchaExpo two weeks ago and could have easily promoted it there to thousands of lucha fans at an event a couple of miles away from these tapings.

  25. @ohtani’s jacket: I’m not even sure if IWRG is still airing or if they only show it every 2 weeks or so…

LuchaLibreNation is either on vacation since it’s the summer and I believe he’s a student or he lost internet access.

Mario on the ByL boards said he took some time off but resumed uploading yesterday with the local show Cubs mentioned yesterday where Fuerza Boricua lost his mask in a cage match for the 14th time. Trust me… you don’t want any of the matches he uploaded.

  26. @Rob: IWRG is still airing and seems to be pretty new pretty regularly. Not sure what happened to their Expo show though.

Hopefully LLN returns or someone new picks up where he left off. I don’t have video capturing hardware adn will be leaving Mexico sometime next year, so I’d love to know that there is a reliable source by the time I leave.
