AAA #890 (06/20)

May be around late today. Slight chance of not at all.

taped 05/21, aired 06/20

Mascarita Divina, Mascarita Sagrada 2007, Octagoncito vs Mini Abismo Negro, Mini Chessman, Mini Psicosis – didn’t really get much time, but worked wit they had
Fabi Apache, Gato Eveready, Pimpinela Escarlata vs Billy Boy, Polvo de Esterllas, Sexy Star – Fabi is still great
Alex Koslov vs Extreme Tiger, Alan Stone for the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship – the style they’re doing. I know parts of it are athletically impressive, but it’s not very dramatic to me.
Latin Lover & Marco Corleone vs Joe Lider & Kenzo Suzuki – a match
Charly Manson, Mesias, X-Pac vs Electro Shock, Teddy Hart, Zorro – the Zorro turn started here, though who knew. Just a match to get these guys on the card.
Dr. Wagner Jr. & La Parka Jr. vs Cuervo & Silver King – still shocked Cuervo didn’t lose. The Silver King/Dr. Wagner storyline sure seems to be a change in plans, because there was no sign they were building up to something here.

AAA #889 (06/13)

taped 05/18, aired 06/13

I’d like to say something positive about this show, but they aired an interview with the winner Cruiserweight tournament before showing even the semifinals (and showed clips from the final before that), so this show was dead to me about 30 minutes in. If we throw out the all-interview show,s that’s back to back outrageously dumbly produced shows.

Billy Boy, Decnnis, El Brazo vs Argenis, Gato Eveready, Pimpinela Escarlata – MOTN, easy. The parts with the ex-Barrio Boys were really good, the other parts I wasn’t as high on
Alan Stone vs Laredo Kid [AAA CRUISER, semifinal] – wish they would’ve given these guys some time somewhere in this tournament
Alex Koslov vs Nicho el Millionario [AAA CRUISER, semifinal] – Nicho’s kinda dumb for being distracted by Marco just existing
Extreme Tiger vs Jack Evans [AAA CRUISER, semifinal] – the turn still felt kinda rushed
Dr. Wagner Jr., La Parka Jr., Super Fly vs Cuervo, Escoria, Ozz – exhibition for the tecnicos, of course.
Chessman, Electro Shock, Kenzo Suzuki vs Latin Lover, Marco Corleone, Mesias – too much focus on the cliffhanger of the ending, not enough to let us know what was going on. Everyone’s reactions were great.

AAA #888 (06/06)

Did I not post this? How could I not have posted this already. It’s just the pre-TripleMania interview show, the second week of flu cancellations, where almost every match was clearly announced like weeks before I actually realized it. I tend to think I’m better of just waiting the three weeks for stuff to air in the US, because it’s convenient (and plus I don’t have to make up three weeks of lag), but there are times like this where I feel dumb about it.

Remembering the Sexi Star introduction angle made my day. If only anything between that and this made any sense. Take what you can get.

Moving on…

Tuesday GDL, Puebla title match, Demon in Toronto

CMLL (TUE) 07/14 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Meteoro & Novato vs Relampago & Skaxy
2) Leon Blanco & Metatron DQ Malefico & Rafaga
3) Casanova & Neutron b Asesino Negro & Drago
4) Amapola & Hiroka b Dark Angel & Zeuxis
5) Terrible & Texano Jr. b Sagrado & Shocker

Hmm, champions actually win a non-title match. 2nd/3rd match were building the cage match for Sunday.

SuperLuchas says Hector Garza vs Ultimo Guerrero for the CMLL Heavyweight Title is next Monday’s main event in Arena Puebla.

Now Toronto has a long story on the lucha libre show there this weekend. Very accurate statements:

Blue Demon Jr.: ““My mask is the most valuable part of my career because it lets me become another person. This is the magic for the wrestler.”

Canadian Indy Worker: Down there [Mexico] they take wrestling as seriously as we take hockey.

El Manana talks to Mini Laredo Kid, who’s now had that gimmick for five years.

Cesar says he’d rather watch Backyardigans than read the forums lately (well, high bar) and notes even with new management, people are acting in the usual ways in Guadalajara.

Crazy Boy talks about Estadio Deportes about DTU, as a place to showcase new talent.

Record talks to Mil Mascaras, who reached 44 years of wrestling yesterday. He jokes about going for 50, which would mean he’d be wrestling at 73 years old.

The Gladiatores has interviews with Ricky Cruz and the promoter of the MMA Total Combat show.

Ras de Lona #54 finally is up on my RSS feed, though I forgot what was on it. The bit with Mascarita Dorada & son was cute. Ephesto going over all his gimmicks was good.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, plus Robert on CMLL FSE 05/12 & 06/07, and CMLL FSE 06/15 and 06/22/08.

Sombra de Plata hasn’t had a match since April 17 – did he get injured or dropped? The wave of novatos might have pushed him out, but he had an 11 year run.

07/17-18 Lucha Times

Chart.

AAA-MEX: The Sunday re-run is back, just in time for the Mesias/Wagner rematch, and the Teddy/Jack match. See Billy go bye, at least for a couple weeks.

52MX: Angels vs Tuareg, Garza/Shocker/Toscano vs Niebla/Negro/UG.

LATV: I just spent an hour putting together the LATV episodes from the last four weeks, just in case there was a secret pattern to the reruns. Nope.

CMLL: Top 3, of course. We should know who’s in the cage by this point, and six unmasked guys in the tercera seem to be a pretty flashing beacon.

AAA-MEX: Wagner vs Parka/Mesias, Sugi’s debut, Charly/Jack vs Chessman/Teddy

FOX: Mascara/Sombra/Valiente vs Warrior/Metal/Okumura, plus Flash/Metro/Stuka vs Euforia/Nosferatu/Vangelis

C3: CMLL Trios, and Mini Nitro’s debut.

Puebla: Mephisto vs Mistico. Definitely airing the semimain, since they’re apparently doing a UG/Garza title match. I’m guessing no Fabian/Metro tag team.

ACM: one last week without AAA.

CMLL FSE #147 (05/30)

I had half of these teasers done, and I can’t find them anymore. Maybe I shouldn’t wait two months to do these? Perhaps.

taped 05/24, from – I don’t remember form, but it wasn’t until I went to link to the video until I remembered I watched it someone else’s YouTube. It’s been a while.

Guerreros vs Hijo del Avernos seems irrelevant at the moment, so let’s wonder about the opener. The Tuareg and a loose tecnico platoon of the Angels and the Ex-Air Force have been battling so often, they’d be dumb not to take advantage of it somehow. I don’t think they’re doing it with a plan to turn it into something, it’s more a simple quirk of the half (or more) of the regular segunda rudos being in the Tuareg, so any tecnicos on that level are going to usually be facing one combo or another. This is probably good for the kids – this match on this show was a bit spotty, but they’ve gotten better by familiarity. CMLL’s way scaled back on the minor hair and mask feuds this year, but it’s tough bad they can’t get the Arena Coliseo tag team belts involved.
