08/01-02 Lucha Times

box. LATV’s twitter said no more CMLL 1-hour hour. Ras de Lona will continue.

AAA-US: Charly/Wagner/Jack vs Chessman/Silver/Teddy. Last 2h30m show for the time being.

52MX: Women’s Trios, and Poder Mexica. I think CMLL’s doing a Princesa Blanca/Lluvia title feud, but I’m scared of contemplating such things.

CMLL: As noted in the comments, only a half hour show. Guessing they’re show the Mistico match and not the cage match.

AAA-MEX: battle royal for THE title shot (for a while, anyway.) Not sure what they’re cutting here, if anything, because everyone but the Clowns builds something up for Verano de Escandalo, and they’re probably not cutting out Wagner and Marco.

FSE: Segunda from Friday, main event from Sunday – Pesta Negra vs Sombra/Mistico/Toscano

C3: Amapola/Marcela and other lesser matches. (Good ones, though. Show of the week for sure.)

Puebla: Not sure what they’re dropping here, because it’s a solid lineup. Obviously, title match in the main event.

  1. I saw you said this is the last 2:30 show for AAA on Galavision, do you know what it’s being cut to?

  2. I hate to cheer for Peste to be cut, but the semimain looks like the thing to go here. Depending on where they were at in the title match when the dive occurred, maybe they fit everything in. They were teasing Pequeno Warrior vs one of the locals (presumably Aturiano since he’s in this weeks match too) last week, so hopefully the minis are safe. That pretty much brings it down to tercera or semimain and that is hopefully an easy choice.

Instead of the usual Wed. replay of the Puebla show, this week they aired a series of interviews with older luchadors about Arena Puebla. Didn’t catch much of it, but it looked like it was all interviews, no old highlights or anything.

  3. @Daniel: I looked ahead on tvguide.com and it showed AAA back to 3 hours on 8/9. Also showed the 510min Lucha block on 8/8 on Fox Sports replaced with MLS.

  4. @LLL: At some point they should also be airing the two hour shows from down here the last couple of weeks.

  5. I find it strange that LATV’s Twitter is saying no more CMLL, yet their website still shows it on the grid, and they’re still running promos for the Fri/Sat 7p slot. I watched Ras de Lona at 6, and they ran another promo for CMLL. Meanwhile, it seems like RdL does not air a new episode until Friday, not Tuesday as listed on LATV website and promos.

Either way, looks like Rob was right about the contract issues. From day one on LATV, CMLL was listed as being owned by MVS and Fox Sports in the credits. It was never credited like that on Fox Sports last year. Something is up with Fox, and I don’t believe it has to do with AAA, b/c I don’t know if I believe they’ll be on Fox.

Why would AAA want Fox Sports anyway? So they can have a different timeslot every 5 weeks. A sports net with lots of hours of live programming is that last place a wrestling show should be.

  6. Only 30 minutes? Good for CMLL. It’s not like extra people will be tuning in thinking they’ll get to see the big show from the night before or anything. I also never got the chance to congratulate CMLL for not even promoting the fact they started an hour later the last two weeks.

If there were anyone involved in the decision making process under the age of 55 things like this might not happen.

Valiente vs Azteca for the title (easier than looking up which one Azteca has) should be next Sunday at the Arena Mexico fan apprecation deal. And with the way Valiente has been getting complemented about changing his physique I’m already predicting… no… GUARANTEEING title change.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say they drop the title match from Puebla TV or everything airs since it went short. If the injury happened in the third fall as described that means only the first and second fall could really air and that can be what… 3 minutes combined at most?

Something seems to be up with the mini’s in Puebla, especially with the locals constantly getting involved. I wonder if they are building to a CMLL mini’s vs Pueblanos cage match for a fan appreciation show later this month.

  7. @Rob: There was a mask challenge at the end of the minis mask last week between Warrior and Asturiano (I think), and they decided to air it on TV on a 6 match show. So, it would seem like they are building toward something.

Hopefully they decide that the only Fan Appreciation Shows to air in Puebla are the shows with mini cage matches.

  8. @Alan: It’s gotta be a multi-man deal though b/c next Monday’s match is Dorada, Peq Olimpico, Asturiano vs Peq Pierroth, Peq Universo, Sauron. Third from the top also which isn’t common with the mini’s in Puebla.

I’m all for this leading to a cage match with the loser unmasking as long as they leave Tzuki out of it this time. He’s already had two close calls this year.

  9. They can air the Shocker vs TxJr NWA epic… three times!!

Aren’t the swimming championships over yet? They seem to be taking longer than the Olympics!

Prices for tomorrow’s show are normal (50 in the upper deck), dunno if kids get in for a single peso… I guess they do, so they might draw what they would for a normal show… last year, they did 15000 for the show with LdP final + Gran Prix… can’t remember what prices they had then, but I’m guessing they’re higher that time.

  10. @xuisaw: Actually they aren’t even getting pre-empted for swimming – just diving. I thought it was only one week b/c the Mexican duo won but then they showed it again last Saturday so who knows.

I say no way they get over 12,000 tomorrow. I wish AAA was running direct competition b/c then it would really bomb. But if AAA was running direct competition I’m sure CMLL would have put forth a better show.

@Cubs: You doing a prediction post today or tmrw? Or not doing one?

  11. How many Fan appreciation shows is CMLL going to run this year? Seems like every other show is Fan Appreciation.

  12. Well my dates may be off for the non-Mex City shows but…

First Tuesday of every month: Fan Appreciation.

Second Sunday of every month and/or random holidays like Father’s Day/Mother’s Day/Yom Kippur: Fan Appreciation.

Third Friday of every other month: Fan Appreciation in Puebla and Guadalajara.

So yeah… there is always a Fan Appreciation Show around the corner no matter what day of the month it is.

Plus the ticket prices aren’t that different from the new summer deal they’ve been offering lately so… I guess every show is an unofficial Fan Appreciation Show.

In other news – another CMLL Hi5 page bites the dust. One less place to get inaccurate CMLL news.

  13. “C3: Amapola/Marcela and other lesser matches. (Good ones, though. Show of the week for sure.)”

Truer words have never been spoken. Great show this week! 4 for 4!
