Next week’s lineups

CMLL really needs to put up the Puebla lineup. Not just because it’s tomorrow, but so someone knows for sure if there’s a title on the line in the main event. (Also, promoting a hair match would be a keen idea.)

Also, the Lucha Libre Expo is next weekend. Those shows which didn’t have updated lineups don’t appear to have them now. AAA’s actual taping lineup should be out in a day or so, and I guess IWRG’s card looks more accurate given the Dinamitas coming back in this week.

CMLL (TUE) 07/21 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Astaroth & Thunder Boy vs Katana & Milenio
2) Magnum & Metatron vs Angel del Mal & Drago
3) Gallo & Leon Blanco vs Mascara Magica & Mr. Trueno
4) Flash & Metro vs Euforia & Nosferatu
5) La Mascara & Toscano vs Terrible & Texano Jr.

New regime loves pairs matches! Unless I’m missing something, none of the guys in the cage match tonight will appear on this show.

CMLL (TUE) 07/21 Arena Mexico
1) Bengala & Molotov vs Caligula & Messala
2) Angel de Plata, Guerrero Maya Jr., Metalico vs Bronco, Dr. X, Vangelis
3) Amapola, Hiroka, Yezca vs Lady Apache, Lluvia, Marcela
4) Hector Garza, Mictlan, Sagrado vs Felino, Heavy Metal, Hijo del Lizmark
5) Averno vs Hijo del Fantasma [CMLL MIDDLE]

The power of being connected: took the rudos (and pretty much everyone else) 2-3 of matches to get their title shot. Fantasma gets it done in 1! Nice to CMLL remembering NOT took book Dark Angel on days she’s supposed to be in TNA. It’s the small things, really.

IWRG (THU) 07/23 Arena Naucalpan
1) Imperial vs Comando Negro
2) Goleador & Guizmo vs Blasfemia & Keshin Black
3) Exodia, Jack, Pendulo vs Black Terry, Capitan Muerte, Fantasma de la Opera
4) Chico Che, Rigo, Trauma I vs Avisman, Bushi, Dr. Cerebro
5) Negro Navarro, Ricky Cruzz, Trauma II vs El Alebrije, Fuerza Guerrera, Veneno

Since they’re working Super X as rudos in this feud, where Ricky Curz is pretty firmly a tecnico, it’s probably about time for Alebrije to turn rudo (!) or join the IWRG side.

CMLL (FRI) 07/24 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Sensei vs Artillero & Super Comando
2) Angel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Tigre Blanco vs Euforia, Loco Max, Skandalo
3) Mascara Dorada vs Dragon Rojo Jr. [lightning]
4) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Toscano vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro
5) La Mascara, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Atlantis, Negro Casas, Ultimo Guerrero
6) Shocker vs Texano Jr. [NWA LH]

As I mention every time Shocker gets a shot at this title, this was the belt Shocker lost not in the ring, but by jumping in to AAA.

La Mascara in the semimain!(!!!!!!) Does Sombra have a family reunion? Did someone figure out the perfect compliment for a boring cage match is La Mascara getting a Welterweight title shot next week? (I am actually fine with La Mascara.)

Ray Mendoza making a return engagement sure seems to set up an addition to the cage match.

CMLL (SUN) 07/26 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Camorra & Semental
2) Metalico, Tigre Blanco, Tony Rivera vs Dr. X, Inquisidor, Polvora
3) Dark Angel, Estrella Magica, Lluvia vs Amapola, Crazy Star, Princesa Sujei
4) Maximo, Sagrado, Valiente vs Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca
5) La Sombra, Mistico, Toscano vs Hijo del Lizmark, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Hijo del Lizmark in the main event! Poder Mexica actually teams up, hooray.

CMLL (SUN) 07/26 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Hierro & Thunder Boy vs Milenio & Relampago
2) Guerrero Samurai II & Virgo vs Rafaga & Rey Trueno
3) Mascara Dorada, Neutron, Palacio Negro vs Infierno, Mascara Magica, Virus
4) Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro vs Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, Shocker

Short a match here. Maybe a match out of this week’s Texano/UG vs Panther/Mendoza match. Second match has half the guys in tonight’s cage match.

IWRG (SUN) 07/26 Arena Naucalpan
1) Halcon 2000 vs Comando del Diablo
2) Eragon & Imperial vs Blasfemia & Keshin Black
3) Chico Che, Exodia, Rigo vs Capitan Muerte, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro
4) Ricky Cruz, Scorpio Jr., Trauma II vs Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Tetsuya, Veneno

No main event announced, just like happened for this week. Ovaciones says tonight’s main event is the oddball team of Oficial 911, Angelico and Ricky Cruz vs Super X’s Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Hijo del Cien Caras, and Veneno, so perhaps a tag team title match next week? There’s also a Trauma II vs Avsiman #1 contenders match for the IWRG IC Lightweight title tonight.

  1. AAA announced the top two for their Expo card on the show today. Of course, I wasn’t paying attention until it was too late, so the only thing I can tell you is that the rudo team for the semimain is Nicho/Lider/Kozlov. I don’t think anyone from DMex was on the tecnico side, so while that angle seems to be forgotten for this show, at least they are remembering that Kozlov is now a rudo. Bot the main and semimain are trios matches. Was anyone else out there paying attention enough to fill in the details for me?

  2. So the Lucha Libre deal at the Celebrate Mexico festival here in Toronto today wasn’t too bad at all. I’m not great at guessing crowds but my guesstimate would be roughly 2000 people watching. Perhaps more since people were watching from afar as well. More important than that was probably the fact that the place wasn’t busy at all before the show began and as bell time approached a ton of people showed up which means they came BECAUSE of the actual Lucha Libre event instead of the festival itself.

Opener was a 12 man Torneo Cibernetico with the BSE guys including one dude wearing a Dragon Rojo Jr. mask bought straight from Highspots and one guy dressed up to look like Jason. Kobra Kai (long time local indy guy) and Chris Chambers were on opposite teams and were clearly going the distance for their teams. Match barely went 12 minutes… everyone got to do an exchange and then you had 6 dives almost all at the same time and then the eliminations came faster than most CMLL Torneos if you can believe it! Chambers ended up winning. Fun opener with lots of action. Crowd loved it.

Speaking of the crowd… we were awesome. Tons of kids so as long as you stuck to the tecnico/rudo format you were guaranteed to get over. The BSE guys were smart enough to do that so it worked perfectly. Crowd also had all the typical chants down like CUUUUUUUUUULERO and MIEDO along with the old ladies saying really naughty things to the rudos.

Semi-main was a six man tag with Incognito on the tecnico side and La Sombra on the rudo side. DREAM MATCH! Except this Sombra was not THE Sombra. Nor the 1995 Sombra just incase anyone was curious. Another fast paced match with mainly the tecnicos getting to show off. Incognito looked fantastic both in appearence (gear/mannerisms compared to the BSE guys) and moves in the ring. One of the BSE guys (Wolf something) did a neat somersault dive with his legs smacking the guardrail. Incognito used the Skayde Special for the win and everyone grabbed him for photos afterwards.

Main event was Demon (with heavy tan + NWA Title) and Angel De Guerra against Tyson Dux (ex-WWE’er?) and someone else. Demon got a huge reaction so the local publicity worked off. I felt bad for the fans though b/c they had no idea how terrible Demon really is. They learned really fast as he basically just worked the arm of his opponents and did much of nothing except a top rope frankensteiner. He and Dux were also completely on different pages for the finish so Demon just kept slapping him until Dux said to go home so Demon locked on a submission for the win. Crowd cheered but you could hear the groans too since Demon did nothing all match long.

Afterwards Demon gave a speech about Toronto being a great city and he hopes he can return and make it a yearly thing. I would hope he’d say that since our crowd was 10x the size his NWA draws.

I left happy, kids left happy and the meet and greet afterwards seemed to go well although I didn’t see Demon anywhere, only the BSE guys.

  3. @Tim: Really? I had no idea. I thought he had a WWE developement deal at one point (hence why he bulked up by like 40 pounds within a month).

  4. @Rob: He did work some Heat/Velocity matches, including tearing his ACL in a match against some guy named Mark Jindrak. I believe it was coming back from the ACL injury where he got the muscle physique.

There were tons of messages about the Toronto show on Twitter, which led me to believe this show was going to get a big turnout, or everyone in Toronto is on Twitter.

  5. @thecubsfan: Yeah I saw lots of twitter messages on Saturday night since I wanted to get an idea of what to expect. 4000 sounds like an accurate number for the two days of action and smart marketing by BSE as they had their guys signing autographs on flyers for their next show.

Lots of Red Sox fans in attendance since the Jays game had just let out next door.

  6. To noone’s surprise, Puebla seems to be skipping the Mictlan, Fabian, Metro match up. Perhaps the only time I’ve been happy to see the Tuaregs not make TV.

  7. @thecubsfan: Could you please inform cmll.com that the wrestlers in the opener are not Pequeno Rafaga, Pequeno Sauron and Pequeno Maligno. I understand the confusion since it’d be hard to remember the names of locals you’ve been typing up for the last… 2 years or more.

  8. Wow, Mistico’s second for the title match in Puebla? That’s right Metro. Were Garza, Fantasma, and Mascara all too busy to be bothered?

  9. @Rob: Kind of shocked at how weak they have Mistico looking here. Mephisto had him down for the pinfall in the second fall, but pulled him up twice instead of taking the three.

  10. Wow, botched ‘rana in the middle of the ring followed by Mistico calling for a towel from Metro to wipe down the mat. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before.
