Tuesday GDL, Puebla title match, Demon in Toronto

CMLL (TUE) 07/14 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring]
1) Meteoro & Novato vs Relampago & Skaxy
2) Leon Blanco & Metatron DQ Malefico & Rafaga
3) Casanova & Neutron b Asesino Negro & Drago
4) Amapola & Hiroka b Dark Angel & Zeuxis
5) Terrible & Texano Jr. b Sagrado & Shocker

Hmm, champions actually win a non-title match. 2nd/3rd match were building the cage match for Sunday.

SuperLuchas says Hector Garza vs Ultimo Guerrero for the CMLL Heavyweight Title is next Monday’s main event in Arena Puebla.

Now Toronto has a long story on the lucha libre show there this weekend. Very accurate statements:

Blue Demon Jr.: ““My mask is the most valuable part of my career because it lets me become another person. This is the magic for the wrestler.”

Canadian Indy Worker: Down there [Mexico] they take wrestling as seriously as we take hockey.

El Manana talks to Mini Laredo Kid, who’s now had that gimmick for five years.

Cesar says he’d rather watch Backyardigans than read the forums lately (well, high bar) and notes even with new management, people are acting in the usual ways in Guadalajara.

Crazy Boy talks about Estadio Deportes about DTU, as a place to showcase new talent.

Record talks to Mil Mascaras, who reached 44 years of wrestling yesterday. He jokes about going for 50, which would mean he’d be wrestling at 73 years old.

The Gladiatores has interviews with Ricky Cruz and the promoter of the MMA Total Combat show.

Ras de Lona #54 finally is up on my RSS feed, though I forgot what was on it. The bit with Mascarita Dorada & son was cute. Ephesto going over all his gimmicks was good.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, plus Robert on CMLL FSE 05/12 & 06/07, and CMLL FSE 06/15 and 06/22/08.

Sombra de Plata hasn’t had a match since April 17 – did he get injured or dropped? The wave of novatos might have pushed him out, but he had an 11 year run.

  1. Ras de Lona has been good lately. They treat Mascarita well, and have cool interviews. The clips are a little too short, but they probably can’t show more than a few seconds.

Speaking of MMA, UFC did a 13.3 on Televisa.

Shame 52mx.tv does not have the CMLL show for download.

  2. Galavision is showing video footage of the night Parkita and Espectrito arrived at the hotel with two women, who then leave alone. Footage was just released. It’s on Noticiero.

  3. So I’m reading Konnan’s Super Luchas interview. What’s the joke behind “Toronjo y Toronjito” when making fun of Fuerza and Juvi?

  4. @LLL: I’m going to guess its a gay reference used as a putdown.

Also, I think there is a possibility that the two women might be men in drag. I kind of thought that from seeing the photos.

  5. Why do you assume CMLL will add a 10th man to the cage? This is the same promotion that headlined their June ’05 show with a 9 man cage match and as if 9 people in a cage made no sense in the first place – it was the TECNICOS who had the 5 on 4 advantage AND STILL LOST!!! That still bothers me to this day.

NOW is aimed at gay people so make your own jokes. I did pick up a copy (they’re free) but haven’t read it yet. Demon made the cover. Still not sure how this weekend is going down since the two shows are scheduled for 3pm Sat and 3pm Sun and it’s supposed to rain both days.

cmll.com says Garza vs Ultimo and Policeman vs Centella will be the big matches on Monday in Puebla. I hope the other two matches for TV are really stacked…

I actually hope Sombra De Plata is hurt and you should never wish injury on any wrestler but it’d be better than him getting canned. Hopefully he pops up soon. At the rate the CMLL roster is growing it might become the norm to have to wait 2 months in between bookings.

New IWRG TV is up on ElMartinente via Mario.

  6. @Alfredo: “Also, I think there is a possibility that the two women might be men in drag.” And if the way died wasn’t bad enough, but if the prostitutes turned out to be dudes in drag. Damn talk about from bad to worse.

  7. @LLL of course UFC did a 13.3! MMA is the hottest thing right now! Espically with Brock as the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP! Also anyone who missed UFC 100, really did miss something awesome and special!

  8. @thecubsfan: If you’re gonna continue to allow Dave to post message here, shouldn’t you make it mandatory that he toss in at least one dated AAA 1995 reference?

  9. AAA in 1995? Let me see….. La Parka was La Parka Jr and I think Los Vatos Locos were trying to make a big scene!

  10. @czr87: Mmm… fast forward 3 years and you’d be correct.

I’m curious… are you a new Lucha Libre fan that found Cubs’ amazing blog randomly?

  11. Not at all! Live in a bordertown so Lucha Libre shows are pretty much down the street. Big names come down where i live on a month to month bases!

  12. I just watched Sarita vs. Alissa Flash from Impact. Pretty unimpressive tv debut by Sarita and her attire was horrible.
