La Parkita (original)/Espectrito II notes

So, the Parkita/Espectrito II story went viral sometime last night. White people like midgets and sex and death, I guess.

There’s really not much more to say, but since there’s a billion links to stories, I might as well include some of them.

– The women involved are not in custody. The police have put out a sketch of one of the women and they’re working on the second.

AAA sends their condolences, then spends a couple paragraphs making it absolutely clear that these guys were not AAA wrestlers at their time of their death, didn’t really have permission to be using the names they were using, the current AAA La Parkita is a completely different wrestler, and the Espectrito name has been retired since Antonio Pena’s death. (I wonder why they’re so sensitive about this.)

– El Universal runs thru the usual list of recent deaths. (Oh, Abismo, right.)

Pariso de la lucha libre has photos from the funeral. Record talks with Espectrito about his brothers. Universal talks with the family left behind, including their mother (who couldn’t stomach watching them wrestle) and the children, one of who was secretly training in his father’s career.

Ovaciones mentions Bracito de Oro, Fire, Mascarita Ano 2000, Pequeno Gigante, the original Octagoncito among many from IWRG, AAA and other promotions who attended.

– El Manana talks to AAA and Nuevo Laredo wrestlers, who says sometimes it’s more dangerous outside of the ring than in it for a wrestler

El Sol de Mexico says the minis were working for CMLL. That’s wrong, of course. Espectrito II is listed as Espectrito Jr. all over the place, too. As LuchandoLibre pointed out to me in an a tweet, a lot of the obits (including the ESTO one) have Parkita’s debut as 1995. It’s actually 1992; ’95 is more about when Parkita was dropped from AAA

  1. Fire and Bracito De Oro would have never worked with either guy since they’ve never left CMLL so why would they attend? I’m telling you – Espectrito II = Guerrerito Del Futuro. Maybe not the Chicago one, I’ll concede that. But the one that worked in CMLL was him.

  2. @ Rob: they worked together if Cubs has the 2002 event archive right.

    CMLL (FRI) 05/24 Arena Mexico
    1) Bracito de Oro & Pequeño Olímpico b Espectrito II & Fire

  3. @Ringo: That seems to be a correct result but explain to me why there are only two recorded matches with Espectrito II from the start of 2002 when Guerrerito Del Futuro was regularly working CMLL shows. You don’t just go from regularly working CMLL shows as Espectrito II to vanishing from the entire world of Lucha Libre while some guy who wrestles exactly like you just happens to be working under the Guerrerito Del Futuro hood.

I’m gonna grab some screencaps in a bit and post them for comparison.

  4. Actually you know what… I’m gonna re-check the magazines I have from that time period to double check. I think that was Espectrito I, not II.

  5. You know the other way to clear this up would be just to wait a year and see how many results turn up for Guerrerito Del Futuro.

It’s also interesting to see how many times Guerrerito Del Futuro magically appeared on various U.S. shows when Espectrito I came over to work them – including Lucha VaVoom.

  6. @Rob: The GdF that worked VaVoom is the GdF that I know and the one that was in the WWF. As far as I know he is/was NOT Espectrito…..

  7. @Jake: Tarantula WAS Espectrito II.

    Here’s how I have my timeline…

Espectrito II worked for AAA starting in late 1994. To begin 1997 he turned into Mini Mankind during the WWF invasion. In the spring of 1997 he turned into Tarantula when the WWF wanted their own midgets but he kept working as Mini Mankind in AAA till the summer before returning to the Espectrito II gimmick in time to lose his mask to Octagoncito in the fall. Espectrito II left AAA after losing his mask in 97 with Mascarita Jr. and Espectrito I. He showed up in CMLL rings in 1998. For whatever reason he disapeared in early ’99. At some point in late ’01 a Guerrerito Del Futuro began working in CMLL around the same time an Espectrito II started making the odd random appearence on tiny DF shows. Espectrito II then disapeared off the radar while Guerrerito Del Futuro kept working for CMLL including a couple of TV/PPV appearences where his style was exactly that of Espectrito II. The Espectrito II name only popped up 2 times afterwards and I’m pretty sure now those were mistakes and meant to say ‘Espectrito I’.

Meanwhile a Guerrerito Del Futuro began working the Chicago area in… oh… I wanna say early 2005? Maybe late 2004? I’m not sure if it was the same guy. I’m just guessing it was b/c he worked Chikara once and it was definitely the same CMLL dude.

What I’m trying to say is…

Espectrito II = Tarantula = Guerrerito Del Futuro of CMLL and Lucha VaVoom fame

The only thing I don’t know about is whether the Chicago dude was the same guy but I’m wagering it was. Cubs should be able to ask around at a local show next time and verify.

  8. @Rob: The thing is, I’m absolutely sure the guy at the CHIKARA show was the guy I usually see.

  9. @thecubsfan: I’m with you… I think we’re all talking about the same person but we just don’t have it confirmed yet. How else would a random Chicago luchador decide to use the Guerrero Del Futuro gimmick and have the gear otherwise?

  10. It looks as if the story went huge with the media in Mexico, even TVAzteca had coverage. Funny thing that some guys were demanding AAA to support the deceased’s families even if they had not been associated for about 10 years – and no one says nothing about Pierroth begging for charity shows which CMLL even foils them by removing guys from them.

  11. Also I was at VaVoom and it was the guy I know. Not Mario’s bro. But u will never admit ur wrong so I give up. You can continue to be…

  12. @Jake: No… here’s the deal… you’re probably right and there are two Guerrerito Del Futuros out there which is causing the confusion. Or someone just played the role for one night when you were around since you already said the mini’s play other roles when needed.

The thing is earlier you said…

“The GdF that worked VaVoom is the GdF that I know and the one that was in the WWF. As far as I know he is/was NOT Espectrito…..”

This part doesn’t add up b/c it’s not just my speculation or Cubs’ speculation, it’s FACT (confirmed in the obits + by the surviving brother) that the Espectrito who died played Tarantula in the WWF. So the GdF that you know would have to have quite the story as to how he worked the WWF as well seeing as the WWF got all their minis from the talent agreement with AAA and the four that remained on the roster for the Super Astros show in 1998 were Max Mini, the original Mascarita Sagrada, Battalian (Piratita) and Torito (Espectrito I – still alive).

  13. We trained together with Gladiador in 01. He was the GdF in cmll at that time. He was the one at vavoom and the one in chicago.

gladiador told me he was in the wwf as turantula.

    thats all i got

  14. @Rob: I am willing to say that maybe 10 or so guys were pulling my chain and he wasn’t Turantula. That is fine.

BUT GdF as of 2001 at the very least was someone else. I know this because I was there and I saw it with my very own eyes. In 2001 the guy I know worked for CMLL as GdF. He was NOT the Espectritio 2 that you posted a picture of and he is very much alive. This guy is the same guy who worked as GdF and a few other gimmicks for Lucha VaVoom. I know this because I was there. I saw him with my very own eyes at the mayan. He is also the same guy in Chicago.

I am only making a big deal out of this because when TheCubsFan posted that it was GdF that died I almost lost it. He is a friend. I was very relieved to hear that it wasn’t and I want everyone to know that it wasn’t.

  15. @Jake: That’s fair enough. I did my own double checking and thus far nobody has been able to say for sure that Espectrito II was Guerrerito Del Futuro so obviously I was wrong on that. I wonder where Espectrito II disapearing to during that time period though. (States?)

  16. That could have been what happen. When I lived down there I only saw him once in Naucalpan and that was it.

As for him being in the states that is always a good possibility.

I remember in early 2000 when Espectrito 1 and Tsuki came to live and work in Anaheim. My favorite story from that time was Tsuki disappearing only to be discovered in the back of a cop car. He had been taken into custody for public urination. The second best story was that they worked on a lunch truck with a local mini.
