06/27-28 Lucha Times

Chart.

This is a bit late. Got the VEO index going, at any rate.

AAA-US: Legion vs Alex/Wagner/Parka, plus Jack starting on the tecnico side.

52MX: Tuareg vs Flash/Pegasso/Cometa, plus Niebla/Terrible/Texano vs Shocker/Tsocano/Panther

LATV: just when I start figuring out the rerun pattern, they change it. Last week’s episode was from 02/22/08 (#81), so I’m guessing they’ll just show the next one. Behold the mysterious Grey Shadow!

CMLL-MEX: Mistico & Friends vs the Pesta Negra, plus the feared Mendoza/No Limit team.

AAA-MEX: Mesias vs Wagner; nice of them to do the Perros del Mal finish without actually being on the show. Also, Teddy vs Jack.

FSE: Infernales/Vangelis vs Azteca/Angel/Tony, and a grab bag main event

C3: Hijos vs Fantasma/Mascara/Sombra, Angels/Tuareg war continues

Puebla: Well, they’ve got to not air the Garza match again this week, right? It’s too obvious, so they’ll probably skip the women’s match or just show Friday’s show instead.

ACM: Still don’t think I’ve got this right. Elegido/Octagon vs Scoria/Ozz does not sound especially promising.

Not predicting Veo. Yet.

Tuesday Mexico, GDL, VdE, AAA game to US

CMLL (TUE) 06/23 Arena Mexico [ESTORecord, CMLL]
1) Principe Valiente & TruenoCaligula & Semental
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Starman, ValienteCaligula, Hooligan, Méssala
3) Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, VangelisAngel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Fabian el Gitano
4) Heavy Metal, Misterioso II, VirusMascara Dorada, Mictlan, Sagrado
5) Averno, Ephesto, MephistoHijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, La Sombra

Not much of note up top, but Hijo de Ultraman, Rayo Tapatios and Carrona were all MIA from the first two matches. Maybe Caligula in the opener is actually a typo, they both start with C. Valiente worked as a fill in the segunda; outside of major shows with guys shuffled lower than usual, he hasn’t been that low since September of 2007.

CMLL (TUE) 06/23 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring, MT, MT]
1) Novato b Relampago
2) Metatron DCO Rafaga
3) Palacio Negro b Saturno
4) Casanova b Asesino Negro
5) Mascara Magica & Satanico b Metal Blanco & Neutron
6) Princesa Blanca b Lady Apache [MEX WOMEN]
7) Naito, Shigeo Okumura, Yujiro b Blue Panther, Toscano, Volador Jr.

Verano de Escandalo 2009 will take place on August 16 in Monterrey. That’s a month earlier than they ran the show last year, which allows them to space it out more from the Pena Memorial show.

Gamespot says the AAA video game IS coming to the US. Article loses points for misidentifying the La Parka, gains them all back by wondering if Guapito is in the game. Note that the article says late 2009 or early 2010, where we’ve heard just late 2009 up to this point.

Mistico says lucha libre wrestlers peak at 20 years in, so he does not yet consider himself an all time great.

SuperLuchas is selling Histeria and Psicosis masks.

Cesar rolls with posts looking forward to Juvi’s responce to Konnan’s latest comments, on the death of the indpendent movement, and how wrestlers need big promotions to be stars, and vice versa.

A Costa Rica paper previews the AAA show there. Tickets go from 15000 to 55000. For those who can’t convert from colonoes, that’s 26.25 to 96.25 US, or 348.84 to 1278.09 MEX. More than TripleMania?

Solar has a new website. With store! Yay, doing a website to make money, that’s actually how it’s supposed to work.

Ras de Lona #51 is mostly on the Stuka/Fantasma/Sangre/Rojo trip to Europe. Amused to see Hijo del Fantasma, while his associates were yelling in spanish at the camera, do interviews in completely fine English; he’s the guy WWE should’ve actually taken, glad they didn’t.

Lucha Libre will be in the Louvre in Paria, modeling a collection of clothes from a Mexican designer. Cassandor and Santo will be wrestling at a show Friday and Saturday to promote the collection.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches last week’s Arena Puebla, and seems to like the locals mathc baove the minis. Meanwhile, any time I have to watch lucha, I’m fighting my way thru TripleMania. I need to work a trade!

LuchaWorld has Robert on AAA 04/10/08 in Toluca and CMLL’s Record show from 05/14/08. Figure they’ll end up doing the show with them next year. Next epdition of Slamming’ Stan is tomorrow.

Via el Maritnete: video of Konnan Big vs Cibernetico . Watch at your own risk.

Perro Jr. blames Wagner, Ciber; in need of mirror

(there’s a whole rant here, that didn’t come together as I was hoping. The actual news is before the jump, and you may be well served to  move on after that.)

In today’s yesterday’s Record, Perro Aguayo Jr. attempts to quiet the doomsayers. They’re not going back to CMLL, they’re not folding, and all the blame should be on Cibernetico or Wagner for not showing up, as Perro was assured they would.

4) Negro Casas & Ultimo Guerrero b Blue Panther & Hijo del Fantasma
5) Mistico, Shocker, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Naito

Card got changed a little bit: Lluvia for Marcela, Naito for Dos for the usual reasons but Mascara and Misterioso were bumped down a match and Ultimo Guerrero & Niebla were swapped – maybe all to set up more direct feuds.

CMLL (SUN) 06/21 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en el Ring, MT 1, MT 2]

7) La Sombra & Volador Jr. b Atlantis & Ultimo Guerrero [CMLL TAG]

Just noting the undercard results, and a lot more recaps. Saturn replaced Tigre Blanco, and they added two singles matches with locals. SuperLuchas has photos from the show, which show a very sparsely filled upper section. Then again, I have no idea what they’re drawing here normally so that could be a good crowd.

Fuego en el Ring writes “about Saturday’s ceremony and interviews Felipe Ham Lee

SuperLuchas also has photos of Perros del Mal’s broken ring, but sadly no dancing Intocable. I remember when the red ring of doom finally broke in the Congress Theatre, and they had totally rebuild it like the Perros had to here. Of course, for the Congress, this was just a normal extra long break in the action.

ESTO previews today’s Arena Mexico.

After I gave up on finding out, AAA finally notes Xtreme Tiger is a tecnico.

Kcidis has Ultimo Guerrero, Universal Champ

Did I link to the Lucha Libre Boliva blog spot before? It’s quite good.

Luchas 2000 475 has UG and Wanger with their new belts. I’ve lost the link somehow, but there’s a post on El Martinete saying Guerreros del Ring is back in business with a special this week and weekly editions starting next Monday.

US: 07/25

Main event mystery man is clearly Cibernetico. His name doesn’t turn up in any of the spot show lineups yet, though Nygma turns up for at least one (and no other Bizarros do.)

Semi-main mystery spot could Shiima Xion or Matt Cross; since they’re opposite of Tiger, they’re being set up as teh next challenger to the cruiserweight title.

Looks like Decnnis is still on Billy Boy replacement duty. Which is good for him.

El Brazo referees the opener, so I guess that’s partially a Guapito promoted match.

The CMLL show in Veracruz this last weekend, was hampered by bad ropes and fans set up too close to the ring. One dive ended up landing on a person in a wheelchair.

3) Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Super Crazy b LA Park, Olimpico, Super Porky

A total disaster. Advertised main event was Wagner vs Perro, with Cibernetico on the undercard. With both Wagner and Ciber in Orizaba, they shuffled the card to less than interesting results. This was a Reforma anniversary show, and their article just rips the show for poor matches and worse organization. Ring broke in the second match, which took an hour to fix, and they filled the hour with Intocable doing erotic dances. Every match was a hardcore, bloody match. Rudos won the main event when they pulled Olimpico’s mask.

This is the nadir; either the Perros make an incredible turnaround comeback or they turn up in CMLL before the anniversary show. They can keep struggling, but it’s not working and it’s unlikely to change.

Couple that story with the Dos Caras Jr. story in SuperLuchas 320. Dos Jr. explains it was the fourth offer from WWE he ended up accepting, and he really wasn’t sure he’d heard back from there after rejecting the offer earlier this year. Dos didn’t get the salary he wanted, but he got enough of it and all he wanted in other aspects (name, not being treated liked a rookie), but he jumped at this one when he received it three weeks ago. Why? It was a take it or leave it offer, but also because “lucha libre is in a terrible situation. I am thinking it’s going to get better before it gets worse.” He’s going to WWE for more security.

Dos also says he wanted to turn rudo a year ago, and it was one of many things he was unhappy about even before he first started with WWE. Dos was unhappy “real wrestlers” like Hector Garza and himself were stuck below independents and foreigners, who got more benefits despite having less talent. Eventually, three months ago, CMLL called and asked if he was still interested in turning rudo, and he okayed it just because “all change is positive.”

Over the last eight days, we’ve seen Dr. Wagner join AAA fulltime. (He’s hilariously evasive about the subject in SuperLuchas.) Cibernetico also appears back full time, and both are doing it because that’s the best way for them to get a reasonable income. Dos Caras Jr. has left CMLL to WWE because that’s he feels like a top position in one of the top two companies in Mexico can’t guarantee him a secure income. And Perro and company probably just burned a major sponsor. Feels like this might be a week of turning points. Guess we’ll see.

A set of articles on the history of Arena Coliseo Guadalajara, as they held a big ceremony yesterday as part of the 50 year celebration.

MedioTiempo, La Jornada and SuperLuchas all have history articles, and the first two talk about the festitives. The building was actually read to open in 1958, but their was a worker’s strike. The first show was on June 21, 1959 with Blue Demon and Espectro vs Felipe Ham Lee & Juantia Diaz, and the later two returned to the arena for plaques to honor them. Relampago Leon, Dorrel Dixon and Mil Mascaras were added to the Walk of Fame, and others recieving awards for various reasons: Faraon, Alberto Munoz, Indio Geronimo, La Sombra, and Mascara Dorada.

Marcela explains her knee injury. She actually hurt it originally in Puebla, thought it wasn’t serious, and then it got serious after that match with Star Fire. Marcela says this is the first time she’s gotten surgery ever, but expects to be back at the end of the month.

Konnan has interviews in box y lucha and SuperLuchas. The big news: he’s going to stop talking about the Guerreras after the SuperLuchas interview, a point by point response to Fuerza’s point by point claims. The Box Y Lucha interview has Konnan says Juvi tried to kiss Randy Orton while he was in WWE. The SuperLuchas has Konnan explaining he went to a judge to overturn that retirement loss against Cien Caras because Jake Roberts interfered, and the judge agreed.

Leftovers from Friday’s Arena Mexico show: Cesar’s review, ESPN Deportes review, Ultimo Guerrero telling Record that he’s happy his name goes down in history as the first winner of the Universal title.

Leftovers from the AAA taping: Cibernetico telling Box Y Lucha he’s bringing the Bizarros with him to AAA.

Reforma has three articles about Father’s Day: Mini Warrior talks about his special needs daughter, the current Huracan Ramriez talking about working with his son and Dos Caras Jr. talks about Father’s Day being the last day with his father before moving to the US to start in WWE.

AJPW announced Super Crazy will be a part of their Junior League, which runs 07/26 and 08/07.

El Colombiano has a profile of Psicodelico – the Colombian one. He’s 60, and thinks he may retire in 3 years.

LuchaWorld has Robert on CMLL C3 03/15/08 & AAA 04/05/08 and KrisZ’s news update

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#894)
Mexico: 06/28
US: 07/18

Very tecnico day.

Opener is locals, not for TV.

As the (entertaining) el martinete recap points out, this show was cursed. Billy Boy took a hard powerbomb and a harder brainbuster from Mari. I bet he wishes he didn’t work this show! Also possible this may be the last we see of him for a while.

Decnnis was the loser and casualty in the tercera. Tiger gave him a super Diamond Cutter and Decnnis  hurt his ribs, but continued and was pinned after a guillotine legdrop. This match was promoted as hardcore but did not turn out that way.

Teddy/Jack is described as a MOTYC marred by rudo referee shenanigans from Hijo de Tirantes. He was the difference maker, helping Teddy reverse a ‘rana for the win. Joaquin Roldan didn’t over turn the finish, but did manage to suspend Hijo de Tirantes indefintely (like Konnan.) Tirantes Sr. turned up to vow revenge for his family. We seem to be in a period of all the rudos taking their medicine for their evil acts when the Legion took over, which is a nice change of pace for the fans (and probably means even more evil is just around the corner.)

Semimain sounds like a tecnico romp. Latin got Chessman with a Code Red as Marco chokeslamed Oriental.

Wagner appeared to be close to beating Mesias in the rematch when Cibernetico returned. Cibernetico laid out Wagner (though it’s not clear if that was a DQ or the match just ended) and hugged Mesias, so I guess he’s a tecnico and Wagner is an evil outsider? I don’t see that working so well. Cibernetico also declared himself the next challenger for Wagner, and I’m not sure why Mesias would be happy with that.

Cibernetico told the press after that he’s not abandoning the Bizarros, just bringing them in to AAA. That Cibernetico came out alone, and not with the Bizzaros, probably means AAA doesn’t actually have any plans for them – AAA makes no note of them in it’s recap. How much we actually see of the Bizarros in AAA is a good baromoter to what power Cibernetico has behind the scenes at the moment. I’m guessing the answer to both is “little to none.”

Both Wagner & Cibernetico were supposed to be on the Perros card in Guadalajara while this was going on, and that show was pretty much a disaster without them. It would not be surprising if that was the end of them.

Crowd here is mentioned as 70% full.

Next Week’s Lineups

Change of plans. I’ll save the links for tomorrow, which will probably be a lot of links, and just do lineups right now. Blame the Cubs for keeping me out in the heat for 4.5 hours.

CMLL (TUE) 06/23 Arena Mexico
1) Rayo Tapatio I & Rayo Tapatio II vs Carrona & Semental
2) Guerrero Maya Jr., Hijo de Ultraman, Starman vs Caligula, Hooligan, Méssala
3) Angel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Fabian el Gitano vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Vangelis
4) Mascara Dorada, Mictlan, Sagrado vs Heavy Metal, Misterioso II, Virus
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, La Sombra vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Looks like, instead of an actual semimain, they’re getting two segundas. I guess it is Tuesday.

IWRG (THU) 06/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Guizmo vs Fly Star
2) Galactik & Goleador vs Epidemia & Heavy Boy
3) Chico Che, Exodia, Rigo vs Capitan Muerte, Fantasma de la Opera, Judas el Traidor
4) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro, Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG)
5) Angelico, Bobby Lee Jr., Olimpico vs Fuerza Guerrera, Juventud Guerrera, Ricky Cruzz

CMLL (FRI) 06/26 Arena Mexico
1) Astro Boy & Molotov vs Artillero & Zayco
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
3) Ultimo Dragoncito vs Pierrothito [lightning]
4) Maximo, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
5) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Toscano vs Ray Mendoza Jr., Tetsuya Naito, Yujiro
6) La Sombra, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Main event is a rematch from this week. For the rumors of Felino/Mistico, they still seem to be booking Negro/Mistico. Long time till September.

Looks like notVillano V got the call to pick up Dos’ bookings. That’s about a fair replacement. He’s been gone from Arena Mexico since May 8th.

Hope Ultimo Dragoncito doesn’t kill himself on an Asai moonsault this time.

Lady Apache could be Mexican Women’s champ by this time.

CMLL (SUN) 06/28 Arena Mexico
1) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Shocker vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

A noon show, a special attraction to a concert. Still, don’t understand why they’d do two shows, even at this low level of participation.

CMLL (SUN) 06/28 Arena Coliseo
1) Sensei & Trueno vs Camorra & Cholo
2) Bracito de Oro, Fantasy, Shockercito vs Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Warrior
3) Flash, Pegasso, Rey Cometa vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus
4) Mascara Dorada, Mictlan, Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) Blue Panther, Shocker, Toscano vs Naito, Ray Mendoza Jr., Yujiro

Shocker stays in Mexico City to work the normal show. Sure hope they don’t start teasing a Shocker/Mendoza feud.

CMLL (SUN) 06/28 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Astaroth & Hierro vs Acertijo & Angel del Mal
2) Palacio Negro & Virgo vs Azazel & Rafaga
3) Magnum & Metatron vs Mr. Trueno & Rey Trueno
4) Casanova, Metro, Stuka Jr. vs Dr. X, Satanico, Skandalo
5) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Mistico vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Meanwhile, La Mascara and Hijo del Fantasma have to fly all the way out here for a 5:45 bell time. They’ve got more time than that till the main event, but they’re going to be hurrying. Wonder why they didn’t just use Volador & Sombra on one of these shows instead.

IWRG (SUN) 06/28 Arena Naucalpan
1) Chico Che & Rigo vs Carta Brava & Vampiro Metalico
2) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Capitan Muerte & Ghost Rider
3) Bobby Lee Jr., Oficial 911, Oficial AK47 vs Fantasma de la Opera, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Sauron
4) Black Thunder vs Freelance, Turbo, Bushi, Avisman, Suicida [cage, mask, hair]

No Freelance/Turbo match after all, at leat not yet. While the IWRG core guys are always strong suspects in a match like this, Tetsuya Bushi still has that mask that he’s probably not taking back to Japan with him. Oficials appear to be operating as tecnicos.

Meanwhile, AAA says their next tapings – following the one tonight – are Tuesday June 30th in Cuautitlan (which they’d mentioned previously), and Friday July 3rd in Queretaro (which they hadn’t.) In between now and then, they’re running a tour of Costa Rica from the 27 to the 29th, so these guys are busy. There will be some tired people on that June 30th show.

UG is Universal Champion, rest of Friday results

CMLL (FRI) 06/19 Arena Mexico [Dr. Lucha, Ovaciones, superluchas, ESTO]
1) Bengala & Sensei b Inquisidor & Semental
2) Flash, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Skandalo
3) Dark Angel b Princesa Sujei [lightning]
4) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b La Mascara, Maximo, Sagrado
5) Hector Garza, Mistico, Volador Jr. DQ Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
6) Ultimo Guerrero b Texano Jr. [CMLL Universal, final]

Main event went about 16 minutes, with most of that being in the final fall as usual. UG got Texano clean with the Guerrero Special for the win. Usual mask/hair challenges after. Box Y Lucha has a photo of Ultimo with the belt.

Mistico jumped Pesta Negra to start their match and the tecnicos took fall one. Rudos came back to take fall two. Volador & Garza diced onto Felino & Niebla at the end of the third, and Negro yanked Mistico’s mask for the DQ.

Like the Amapola/Marcela match, Dark Angel & Princesa Sujei ended very close to the time limit.

May have the segunda wrong. Seen it both ways.

Mr. 105
Mr. 105

The book “Iris Wildthyme and the Celestial Omnibus” includes a short story called “Iris Wildthyme y Señor Cientocinco contra los Monstruos del Fiesta” – see the picture over there. He’s Mr. 105 because it takes place back at during the Mexico City Olympics in 1968. That does sound like someone would’ve either teamed with or fought at Matematico.

Gotta be elsewhere, so lineups and more sometime this evening, I think.
