Mexico results (Panther hurt?), Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 06/26 Arena Mexico [SuperLuchas, Cesar, Ovaciones, ESTO]
1) Astro Boy & MolotovArtillero & Zayco
2) Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa SujeiDark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia
3) PierrothitoUltimo Dragoncito [lightning]
4) Maximo, Stuka Jr., Valiente DQ Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
5) Ray Mendoza Jr., Tetsuya Naito, YujiroBlue Panther, Hector Garza, Toscano
6) La Sombra, Mistico, Volador Jr.Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Volador & Sombra got Negro & Felino with casitas in the first, rudos won the second, and Mistico got Niebla with a Mistica in the third.

Bobby Bonales was honored before the semimain. His son gave a Bobby Bonales trophy to Blue Panther (for being Blue Panther, I guess), and one to a fan. BTW, Bonales son is Daniel Aceves, who previously was announced as new president of NWA Mexico when Blue Demon won the title. Panther and Mendoza are still feuding.

During the second fall, Panther lost via multiple submissions at the same time, but it was slow up. Everyone notes he was checked on by the doctor and strechered out, but only the ESTO story seems to have an explanation. According to them, Panther was having trouble breathing and feeling dizzy, after taking a back suplex earlier in the fall. ESTO makes the connection to Misawa.

Maximo and team won in straight falls. Maximo kissed Okumura in the second, and Okumura fouled him.

Ovaciones raves about the minis lightning match.

AAA (THU) 06/25 Discoteca Hysteria [Luchando Libre]
1) el Insecto & Terror b Mr. Stop & Rockett
2) Slax b Hiunkell, Hijo del Signo
3) Super Calo b El Signo
4) Decnnis & Escoria b Chris Stone & Gato Eveready
5) Charly Manson, El Elegido, Gronda II DQ Electro Shock, Espiritu, Ozz

Show had been advertised for a month as a six way hair/mask main event, and was earlier supposed to be Psicosis/Histeria promoted show with a similar style main event. Instead, it was just a normal trios with no explanation. Kiss notes most people didn’t complain, or notice.

Konnan was in prison. Unfortunately for the hopes of many, he was there as a visitor, as part of a program to talk to young men about his life and how they can change theirs. AAA also has a story about a dozen wrestlers helping out at a children with cancer function. I wonder why this week is all about mentioning AAA charity activities? Oh, wait, I guess I don’t wonder. Still, it’s nice they’re doing it.

Proyeccion Luchistica has an interview with IWRG’s Exodia, who’s revealed here as Olimpico’s son. There’s also a video interview with Xeuxis, and a whole bunch of shorter interviews with other luchadoras.

In Ecuador, local wrestler el Indio was arrested for trying to move stolen high powered guns to Colombia as part of a arms trafficking scheme.

Mima Shimoda says she’s in Chicago today. Where? Bad translation?

Ohtani’s Jacket was surprised by Zatura vs Trauma II.

LuchaWorld has CMLL TV 04/12/08 and AAA 04/16/08

CMLL (TUE) 06/30 Arena Mexico
1) As Jr. & Super Camaleon vs Inquisidor & Semental
2) Astro Boy, Guerrero Maya Jr., Tony Rivera vs Caligula, Messala, Polvora
3) Fabian el Gitano, Flash, Horus vs Euforia, Hooligan, Nosferatu
4) Blue Panther, Mictlan, Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Lizmark Jr., Misterioso II
5) Hector Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara vs Averno, Terrible, Texano Jr.

Trios champs together there. First match for Super Camaleon here in about four months. As Jr. seems to have been demoted.

CMLL (FRI) 07/03 Arena Mexico
1) Sensei & Trueno vs Apocalipsis & Ramstein
2) Angel Azteca Jr., Guerrero Maya Jr., Starman vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skandalo
3) Maximo, Metro, Mictlan vs Euforia, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) La Mascara vs Felino [lightning]
5) Hector Garza, Shocker, Toscano vs Naito, Texano Jr., Yujiro
6) La Sombra, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

A weird lightning match. They seem to be only treading water.

  1. Weird stuff. Nothing seemingly going on in CMLL these days. Guess they realize crowd are dwindling and figure it isn’t the right time for anything big to occur.

Nothing stands out at all with the lineups next week. I seriously cannot pick one match and say – WOW, THAT COULD BE SOMETHING BIG! The Friday main could be good but what could they set up with those teams? At most we appear to be building a Maximo/Okumura feud. Hello big gate!

Weird to see Guerrero Maya Jr. getting so many bookings. Wonder if they’re shoving him down the thorats of the fans so he can take the upcoming Gran Alternativa?

Let’s see if Horus can re-debut and get it right this time against three 100% catchers.

OJ is on the money. Zatura/Trauma II is well worth seeing.

  2. Rey Cometa looked awesome on FSE/?LATV? this week! He even took a backflip bump to the floor which the camera almost missed. Dude is insane.

    Pegasso had another bad week…

  3. @Rob: How was the show overall? I missed it today, but will probably catch a replay tomorrow or later in the week.

  4. Cubs – The guy who won the ‘invitado especial’ this week on CMLL TV clearly used LuchaWiki. The least he could have done was mix up the order of Niebla’s identities…

  5. Poder Mexica promos with Okumura are an awesome idea. They need to get him an outfit to wear for their entrance.

  6. @Rob: LuchaLibreNation is awesome. Even if he did upload the horrible UWE show that reaired last night.

  7. @Alan: Those UWE shows are beyond sad. Not sure if I feel worse for the wrestlers who are so hard-up for cash that they need to do these shows and embarass themselves for a couple of bucks or the fans that pay to attend and sit in the crowd re-live memories of 1981 at El Toreo while they watch Villano IV and El Signo try to go through a 10 second exchange without gasping for air.

I remember when I attended some of these legends shows that took place in NC/SC in 2004/2005 where the main events were Rock n’ Roll Express vs Midnight Express or Bobby Fulton vs Gary Royal, I would ask how is it possible there are even 200 fans in attendance who enjoy what they are seeing? The answer I was given was that the fans aren’t watching the match in the ring. In their minds they’re watching the RnRs vs Midnights from the Omni in 1985. It’s gotta be the same way with the fans cheering on Canek as he limps to the ring to do battle with Gigante Warrior.

  8. @Rob: I think this was the second time this show had found its way onto my television. Haven’t there been any other indy shows TVCDeportes has the rights to since it first aired. I slept through it the first time, and made dinner while it was on this time. I still feel like it took up too much of my life. It actually made me feel a little sorry for Ciber.

I think there can be a place for legends matches or nostalgia matches, but you can’t build an entire card or series of cards around the idea. Why not book a legends match or two and then fill the card with younger indy guys who could use the exposure?

  9. We’re keeping a running tab of CMLL TV time wasted over on the ByL board. They just went a full 20 minutes with nothing. LLN even had time to upload the entire disapointing opener before the second match began…

  10. Well, its not like they had a perfectly good lightning match they could have aired during that time.

  11. Cubs – You gotta edit the results from last night. Ray Mendoza Jr. didn’t show. Head Hunter I replaced him.

  12. @Alan: I’d even like to see young guys interacting with the ‘legends’. How about Sangre Azteca getting a win over Canek or Porky or Super Astro? It isn’t going to happen obviously.

I posted a huge rant on this topic over on the ByL board a week or so ago in a thread where the UWE shows were praised as the best in Mexico. I tried to explain how Canek is unprofessional b/c he refuses to lose to anyone and where would his career be if nobody wanted to job for him in his younger days. It’s hard to explain stuff like that though when there is no good word for ‘job’ in Spanish and I think everything else I wrote was kind of a jumbled mess anyhow.

It just drives me crazy to read these comments that CMLL/AAA need to bring back guys like Canek, Rayo, Mascara Ano 2000, Brazo De Oro, Ultraman Sr., El Signo…

  13. Nice! The Momentos producer has been on fire lately showing clips from all the unaired matches including the big spots.

  14. @Rob: Interaction between the legends and young guys should be the ultimate goal. I don’t think the legends need to lose all the time or it wouldn’t mean anything. But, they are never willing to lose the wins lose their meaning as well.

  15. According the the luchadb, I believe this Friday will be the first time Shocker, Toscano, and Garza will be teaming together. Isn’t this the team Shocker talked about wanting to have become the new Guapos when he returned and saved Toscano last year?

Obviously I’m searching for something to be even a little interested in for next weeks shows. I was hoping there would be some direction on Tuesdays show since I will be taking my niece to the show the following week.

  16. @Alan: Well if booking trends continue the mini’s should be working next Tuesday. Hopefully not Dragoncito…

    Volador’s new tights are awesome.

  17. @Rob: I’d be thrilled if she gets to see a minis match this time. Last year, I took her to the Garza/Mistico vs Averno/Mephisto match that ended in the double DQ. I think my Mom thought there was going to be a riot when people started throwing empty beer cups to the ring.

This will be the second week with Mascara/Fantasma vs Averno. Wonder if they are setting up some sort of trios match for the next fan appreciation show? If so, they may continue that next week too.

  18. @Alan: I’m assuming since they appear nowhere on Tues/Fri this week they should be due for a Tues match next week. Main event could be the direction they’re heading as you’re right – I totally forgot next Tuesday is the Fan Appreciation Show. La Mascara vs Averno or Fantasma vs Averno? I prefer the latter… how about you?

  19. Amazing, isn’t it? For years now he’s been just Valiente. Suddenly CMLL bring in Principe Valiente to work openers and now the announcers can’t stop using the ‘principe’ nickname for Valiente. Stupidity and Lucha Libre announcers go hand in hand.

  20. I expected that sort of a finish since the match was put together at the last second…

  21. @Rob: And I thought it was just me. Ok if their going start calling Valiente ” principe”, then Im going to start calling myself Principe Calabcd44 .:)

  22. How dumb is Fabian El Gitano? Azteca Jr. is doing his dive where he has to jump from the second rope to the top rope for a moonsault and as he is in the middle of jumping Fabian hits the ropes causing then to shake. Azteca Jr. could have been hurt bad! Instead he hit the spot perfectly but still… what a dumbass.

  23. Hell yes. Last week’s CMLL stuff was pretty horrible. FSE had a good opener, the regular show had a good main event and C3 was solid all-around. Only shows left are GdR if CatchChannel uploads it (w/ more Angel Azteca Jr. and Vangelis!) and Puebla tomorrow which is always good for one reason or another.

  24. @Rob: I’d prefer the just go with the trios titles, maybe in a rematch and save a defense against the triad for later. But, if they want to go the singles route, I’d definitely take Fantasma vs Averno.

I missed C3, anything particularly good that is worth checking out on youtube or was it all just better than last week?

  25. @Alan: Where are you gonna get the trios titles from? Gotta add Garza if it’s for the CMLL ones and they did that match on the April Fan Appreciation Show.

  26. @Rob: Garza is in the match this week. They could do it with Terrible and Texano. But, they are probably building to a singles match.

  27. @Calabcd44: 2009 Summer still has July, August and September left, so I guess we can’t tell yet. The flu seems to have taken a double toll on la empresa, not only closing them for a couple of weeks but pushing the vacations back, which is a period armex always see the attendance go up.

Next week, it’s election weekend, so who knows how it will affect them, but after that, they should start improving at the gate and build something for the anniv show (which marks the end of summer).

  28. I got to watch LATV’s Guerreros Del Ring about an hour ago and it was an OLD re-run. The Main Event was Negro Casas, Mr. Niebla and UNIVERSO 2000 vs. Averno, Mephisto and Villano III from Arena Coliseo. The match pretty much sucked, but the highlights of past CMLL Anniversary shows weren’t bad.

  29. Ugh… scary stuff about Panther. I hope this was just a freak thing and not something that lingers with him.

  30. Cubs asked about Mima Shimoda being in Chicago, and sure enough, that is “true”.
Mima Shimoda is going to be at Toyota Park in Bridgeview today at 4 PM wrestling as part of a Lucha Libre Mexicana/MLS Soccer doubleheader.

    http://www.goldstar.com/events/bridgeview-il/lucha-libre-mexicana.html

The radio ad I heard this morning said that Mima Shimoda and Hiroka were wrestling against Esther and Rossy Moreno. The main event was going to be something like Hector Garza, Intocable and I think Mascara Sagrada against Mr. Aguila, Villano III and some other guy.

This show sounds remotely interesting to see Garza (how he got back in the US after his issues stemming from TNA appearances)and Intocable teaming. It’s kind of rare to see the CMLL Japanese women team up together in the US. Unfortunately I can’t make this show since I am at work and I only found out about this show this morning.
