2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia vs Amapola, Princesa Blanca, Princesa Sujei
3) Ultimo Dragoncito vs Pierrothito [lightning]
4) Maximo, Stuka Jr., Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
5) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Toscano vs Ray Mendoza Jr., Tetsuya Naito, Yujiro
6) La Sombra, Mistico, Volador Jr. vs Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

Preview: Bobby Bonales, notimex

A down show in terms of news as compared to the last three weeks. Main event should still be about Negro/Mistico. Thought maybe they were setting up a tag team match, but they’re already doing that in Puebla on Monday (and hopefully they push that a bit here.)
They’re honoring Bobby Bonales on the show. He passed away 15 years ago today.

Dark Angel is apparently 3 weeks from debuting in TNA.

An article titled “The Dark Underworld of Wrestling” sounds pretty interesting, but probably will disappoint regular readers for a while, as it just repeats the recent stories about Billy, Hijo de Tirantes, Mesias, and Abismo Negro (and not even in great detail there.) It gets better later on, as Hijo del Santo sticks up for Mistico while feeling sorrow for him, as he sees Mistico getting more and more beat up and will eventually be left broken with little money to keep from it. Santo confirms what’s been talked about before – CMLL (and presumably AAA) keep all revenue from TV, telling the wrestlers that just getting to be on TV is payment enough.

There’s also a good section about required health commissions; Mexico City requires bloody testing and a heart exam, serious stuff. Unfortunately, since all commissions must accept licensing from all other commissions, everyone who thinks they might be blocked from getting one goes to a state where the commission is either corrupt or inept, and there are more bad ones than good ones. Santo singles out Tijuana, Morelos and Chihuahua as good commissions, and Reynosa, Matamoros, and Leon as bad ones. Lots of talk about people using steroids, no one actually mentioning names.

Quick notes from the latest WON
– AAA is planning on bringing Gronda 1 in to feud with Gronda 2.
– Billy & Hijo de Tirantes got two weeks suspensions (so the bits on the TV tapings that looked like them being written off were just that.) They’ve decided Mesias is innocent so he won’t be suspended. Unsurprising. AAA has an article on Mesias doing work with Make A Wish.

Cesar is back to rating CMLL wrestlers: Rayo Tapatios, Starman, Stuka Jr., Hooligan, and Dark Angel.

Colorado Daily has story on a Denver lucha libre promtoion, running a show tommorrow. Although that’s not really mentioned in the article, this show has Santo, Super Porky, Solitario and Pirata Morgan.

LuchaWorld has footage of Jorge Mendoza, silver haired Guatemala luchador

CMLL (MON) 06/29 Arena Puebla
1) Fuerza Chicana, Policeman, Siki Osama vs Black Tiger, Blue Center, Centella de Oro
2) Artillero, Polvora, Super Comando vs Hijo de Ultraman, Metalico, Starman
3) Mascara Dorada, Maximo, Mictlan vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Hooligan, Virus
4) Blue Panther, Hector Garza, Mistico vs Ephesto, Mephisto, Terrible
5) La Sombra & Volador Jr. vs Felino & Negro Casas [CMLL TAG]

Second match is listed as Trios Femeniles. I had no idea!

411mania’s Q&A has someone saying Dos and UG were CMLL’s #1 and #2 draws. No. Very much no.

  1. I lucked out and got the Puebla card right on the money on Monday when trying to make out the list of names that Box y Lucha put up.

  2. As long as Mistico’s in CMLL, he’s the focal point.

    Speaking of Dos Caras Jr….

Cubs, did you read Meltzer’s take on him in the first WON from this week? He forgot to mention his time in AAA, which actually might have been better than anything he ever did in CMLL. Anyway, I think Meltzer’s off on his assessment on Dos Caras Jr. and he’s obviously not seen enough of him to evaluate just how average he is. Dos Jr. went from being very promising to very complacent and lazy rather quickly in his career.

  3. Sarah Stock made her TNA debut last night at the Impact tapings in Orlando, Florida. Following two dark matches against former Knockout Champion’s Awesome Kong (who defeated Sarah Stock) and Taylor Wilde (who was defeated by Sarah Stock), Sarah Stock as Sarita worked her “first” Impact match against “The Future Legend” Melissa Flash (aka Raisha Saeed/Cheerleader Melissa). The match will most likely air on the July 16th edition of Impact.

  4. @KrisZ: Ain’t it awesome when Box y Lucha just lists names and you try to guess? Then they swerve you and it turns out even though there are 6 tecnicos and 5 rudos + Caligula listed, Caligula gets to work with the locals and they add Lizmark Jr. to the show! BOOOOOOOO!

What’s the point of the original Gronda returning to feud with the new Gronda? I doubt the majority of AAA fans even know there have been two Grondas. The original has barely been in the spotlight for a while now. It will only serve to confuse everyone and make them both insignificant. I would bring them back as a team and eventually build to a split as you explain the situation in the coming months. But hey, I’m not booking AAA. I’m not bi either.

  5. @Alfredo:

But Fredo, Dos has that MMA background that we all know is so important since MMA & wrestling are just about the same thing.

  6. I’m not really shocked that TNA used CMLL footage for the preview videos for Sarita (Sarah Stock). During the World X Cup, TNA allowed CMLL talent to wear their championship belts and also used their theme music from Mexico.

Speaking of World X Cup, did anyone else hear that TNA Wrestling is talking with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre about hosting a World X Cup tournament in Mexico with talent from TNA, NJPW, and CMLL?

  7. @CJK: Won’t happen. CMLL would never put up the ladder bullshit or the battle royale deal TNA insists on having as part of each X Cup. If it happens it’ll be a straight forward one night tournament with winners advancing.

The other factor is CMLL would just be tossing away a gate b/c the TNA and NJPW guys don’t draw. The idea would only work if they headlined with a big stip match.

I’m totally in favor of TNA running the tournament and taking Yujiro/Naito away from Mexico for 3 weeks or more.

  8. Probably just some TNA guys will be sent over next month for another Gran Prix.

  9. If I’m not mistaken CMLL said they aren’t doing a Gran Prix this year. That’s why they had the Universal Title tournament.

  10. LATV is the 8/24/08 show. I was caught by surprise with Universo on it. I couldn’t remember the last time he was on a CMLL TV show.
