Averno sees the title match as the next step in their plan to destroy the Guerreros forever, and threatens to send UG and Atlantis to the hospital just like Ephesto sent Rey.

Had a lot of thoughts about the main event, but they’re not coming to me now. I think the decision for who wins the main is based on what CMLL decides needs to be established more – a new top rudo or a new title. Early on, it made more sense to me to make the title, so that when someone like Texano won it down the road, it actually meant something. That was before it this title was mentioned as a once a year title – it’s not going to be AAA’s mega title – and before Dos took off. If it’s just going to be that meaningless from tomorrow on, then CMLL might as well do something meaningful with it tonight by having Texano go over.

UG’s already a couple weeks away from getting a another title match win to prove he’s the best – he’ll probably beat Shocker for the heavyweight title whenever they run the next Tuesday Fan Appreciation show. This is just another win for UG, this would be a big meaningful win for Texano. He’s got three hairs wins since coming to CMLL, but they’ve come in Puebla, at the end of a cage match, and in GDL. Both his more recent title wins were in Guadalajara, so what triumphant he’s had haven’t made TV. (Before this tournament, the only Arena Mexico singles match he had was the final of the G1 Junior tournament, which I forgot existed until now.)

The concern about this I had last week was kinda the same reason why it’d be meaningful – Texano hasn’t beat anyone important, so it’s a big story telling that suddenly he can defeat Ultimo Guerrero in one night, while not making it look like Texano was just given a win.

(I’m also not totally sure CMLL would do a Texano win in a meaningful way – thinking back just to a few weeks ago with the Averno/Blue Panther finish, where Averno hit 2 Devil’s Wings and Panther would’ve lost nothing by losing, but instead kicked out and they did a completely worthless distraction spot for the pin five seconds later. Do the same here, and you’re wasting a big win.)

Probably stopped making sense at least three paragraphs ago. I think I’d like to see Texano win, but expect UG to win, and just hope for a good match either way. What do you think?

Special guest at the show today: SpongeBob, celebrating his 10th anniversary in July.

Mistico’s fifth anniversary celebratory march to church did not occur without issues. He was
prohbitted from entering the church with his mask on, which you would think someone would check before doing this bit. It was all worked out and he was permitted to go in with his mask. Besides that, it sounds like it went well. Mistico was accompanied by fans, and wrestlers – Dr. Karonte, Astro Boy, and (strangely) Averno and Mephisto. For so many reasons, that makes no sense and perfect CMLL sense. Record add Sagrado, Brazo de Oro and Brazo de Platino to the list, and counts the fans as 100. ESTO’s article is so great because it not only mentions his pre-Mistico gimmicks but it also notes him winning the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Wrestler of the Year award.

(via SickMistico @ box y lucha) Dr. Morales column in Record says Cibernetico will return to AAA promptly, because he’s not making money as an independent. I guess we’ll know Saturday.

Mesias will be signing autographs for winners on the AAA website before tomorrow’s taping. Billy Boy will be nowhere.

SuperLuchas is running a contest: suggest Dos’ debut angle for WWE. The winner will be picked by Dos, so suggesting “just randomly thrown out on TV with no build up” probably won’t win.

Demon, Santo, and Mil are threatening to sue Airwave gum for using their images in an internet game to sell the gum.

Luchando Libre notes Matt Cross‘s mySpace says he’s in Mexico until the 24th. AAA?

Kcidis has a great cartoon of Wagner.

Ohtani’s Jacket checks out matches from 06/01/09 Puebla and IWRG 06/04/09

LuchaWorld has the first Slammin’ Stan and KrisZ’s news update.
