TripleMania Live Chat & Results

Show is over: comments are open below, and I’ll do the regular results post once more detailed notes come out tomorrow.

For those interested, we’ll be chatting about TripleMania, as it happens. You can find that chat here, and it’s live right now. Show is scheduled to start at 8:30 and will probably last close to midnight. (As it turns out, almost to 1 AM.)

AAA is hosting their own live results (+video?) on their site. There is no live video feed for the show, as far as anyone’s found, and AAA hasn’t done anything with their video.

Results will also be updated here, and at @luchablog.

Completed
1) Killer Clown, Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown b Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Super Fly
– Super Fly was strechered out. His partners were concerned, despite Super Fly’s recent attitude

2) Billy Boy, Mini Abismo Negro, Polvo de Esterllas, Sexy Star b El Elegido, Fabi Apache, Octagoncito, Pimpinela Escarlata
– Sexi has a new outfit, got good reviews
– Billy wrestled in street clothes (maybe not wrestled much?)
– Sexi yanked Elegido’s mask, and Billy cradled him for the win.
– Mari Apache ran into attack Sexi after the match, and the tecnicos celebrated with Elegido dancing.

– AAA holds a moment of applause for Abismo Negro, Antonio Pena, and Mitsuharu Misawa

– Vignette with Zorro visiting his psychologist. The Sect turn up, so that match must be next.

3) Charly Manson, Rocky Romero, X-Pac b Cuervo Scoria, Ozz, Zorro – Zorro kicked out of X-Factor, but not a second.
– Both X-Pac and Romero cane Zorro, hard
– Zorro gets the cane, and uses it to beat up the tecnicos. Cuervo appears here (but not in the match) to help out the rudos. Pimpi and Fuerza Aerea (Aerostar/Laredo) try to make the save, get beat.
– Marisela Pena got tangentially hit in all of this. HMMMM.

4) Extreme Tiger b Crazy Boy, Alan Stone, Alex Koslov [AAA CRUISER, hardcore]
– Alex eliminated after Alan puts him (and Tiger) thru a table.
– Tiger beats Alan
– Tiger beats Crazy with a 450 splash on the floor. Tiger barely beats the count in – but what would’ve happened if he didn’t? A draw? Alex gets his title back?
– lots of table and ladder spots

5) Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario b Latin Lover & Marco Corleone [AAA TAG]
– Latin was booed.
– Marco went to dive onto the rudos, but Tirantes tripped him up. Marco went after him, but Lider tripped him and Nicho pinned him for the win.

6) Dr. Wagner Jr. b Mesias [AAA HEAVY, UWA Heavy]
– usual main event, with chairs being used on the outside for no DQ
– AAA’s site notes the crowd is firmly behind Wagner
– both men bleed
– Mesias kicks out of a Wagner Driver
– Mesias does NOT kick out of a second one.
– Match goes around 35 minutes.

7) El Hijo del Santo, Jack Evans, La Parka Jr., Octagon, Vampiro b Chessman, Electro Shock, Kenzo Suzuki, Silver King, Teddy Hart [cage, control of AAA]
– Kenzo out first
– Octagon out after him
– Parka is handcuffed to the cage
– Konnan pops up on the video screen to reveal he’s got the key
– Cien runs backstage to get that key
– Teddy leaves during this bit.
– Marco, Charly, and DMX attack Konnan and get the key, handing it to Cien to run it to the ring
– Meanwhile, Lider & Nicho prevent the AAA guys form getting out of the cage
– Cien comes back, AAA turns the tide with Jack doing a big dive on the guys
– Chessman is out next
– Konnan comes to ringside, and lays out Cien and Roldan with a chair.
– Down to Electro, Silver King vs Santo, Parka
– Electro escapes
– Konnan tries to use a fire extinguisher on Santo
– Zorro shows up – wearing his old mask?- and helped Roldan attack Konnan!.
– Parka escapes, Silver King stopping Santo instead
– King and Santo fight, Santo stops him and escapes for the win. Konnan is done, Roldans control AAA.

  1. Let’s all note that *I* was right and *ROB* was wrong about who would win the main event. Thank you.

  2. Todavía falta la rueda de prensa, a la que los medios no acreditados no tienen acceso. No se vayan…

  3. i’ll give my thoughts on the show after i watch the show expect the intros of the main event

  4. @thecubsfan: :(

    @Konnan: Please don’t swear revenge.

@my stomach: Sorry for ignoring you during that never-ending show.

@Alan: Did you fall asleep at any point during the show or did you just leave early?

  5. It seems Zorro never took off his mask, so we don’t really know who it was… or do we? (Xpac?)

  6. The other bad assumption is that Zorro is a tecnico. Jack and Teddy have been talking for months about Zorro taking over the Legion…

  7. If it was Zorro under the mask, then costing the number rudo control of AAA is a turn if I ever saw one. Which is no doubt going to be the end game of this.

In the meantime, I guess Zorro could take control of the Foreign Legion if Zorro convinces them it wasn’t him under the mask.

  8. @Rob: I did not fall asleep during the show or leave early. I was close to charging the ring to attack Kenzo, but I wore the same suit to the show as he wore to the ring, so I decided I couldn’t (this will be amusing once pictures show up of him going to the ring…or maybe not).

I thought the show was much better than last year. The crowd was probably bigger than last year, but definitely not close to a sellout. They did sell seats in the upper deck this year though, so that probably prevented selling out. Notes on the matches are below.

    1) Opener was fun for what it was, but went less than 10 minutes I think. This left them with 15 minutes to kill before the ppv and pissed off the crowd.

    2) As expected, this was the best worked match of the night. Sexi’s outfit definitely deserved the good reviews. Am I the only one who finds it odd that Mini Abismo is maybe slightly larger than Billy Boy? Gran Apache also came out at the end of the match.

    3) Not much to say about the match. Zorro was actually whipped with a belt instead of caned (not sure why). Charly, Romero, and X-Pac each got in one shot. Charly came in with a mask and a flower in his mouth which caused Zorro to snap and start caning everyone. He caned Charly outside the ring causing him to fall on the railing in front of Marisela Pena. As Zorro walked up to cane him again, Pena slapped him and he backed away silently and walked slowly up the ramp. I didn’t see her get hit at any point in the exchange.

    4) I enjoyed most of this match, but there were clearly a fair share of over the top spots that took too long to get set up (Tiger setting up around 10 chairs for one of them stood out). I don’t agree with pulling a newly created title off of someone in its first defense, but I also have to say that Extreme Tiger deserved to win this match and the decision was extremely over with the crowd. Frankly, I would have been happy with anyone other than Alan Stone winning here though. Crazy congratulated Tiger after the match.

    5) No idea why they went in this direction here. Latin was booed, but got a good pop on his entrance. Not sure the booing was because he was teaming with a foreigner or if was about the dancing or what. I have to say, Latin was much faster in the ring than I expected. I like this team and hope they give them the titles in the future, but the titles haven’t gone to anyone that could do much with them in quite a while.

    6) This match definitely beat any expectations I had. I eventually decided that even though I’m not a fan of either of them that I would risk my life cheering for Mesias because I just couldn’t stomach cheering for Wagner. I’d say the crowd was at least 70% behind Wagner. Only Wagner could play to the crowd as he is about to be choke slammed through a table at ringside. That being said, all I asked for in this match was a clean pin and they delivered it along with a decent match. Crowd exploded. There were actually people leaving after this match even with the cage match to come.

    7) The cage that lowers from the ceiling is the greatest invention in professional wrestling. Surprise of the night for me was how tiny Hijo del Santo is. Pretty sure he is shorter than Jack. I was impressed with what he could bring to the ring at this point in his career (though that was clearly limited by the cage to some degree in this match). A slight change to the order above. Nicho and Lider came out after Cien went to the back. Jack did his dive and then Teddy escaped. The match overall was fun. I enjoyed the Silver Kings facepaint. He was busted open bad during the match (pretty sure Parka was too). Santo was carried around the ring and celebrated post match. Zorro just handed the cane Roldan and let him hit Konnan. He then walked over and kneeled before Pena. He left the ring before the match was over, or at least before the celebration at the end. I would not read anything into him not taking the mask off. I suppose since he is nuts right now he could find a way to take over the legion (maybe with Roldan?), but the way Konnan left makes me think that the Legion just keeps being the lead rudos.

Crowd left happy to end the night. Show was pretty fun live, not sure how some of it will translate to tv.

  9. From the last comment I gather Silver King wore facepaint and not a mask? or am I mistaken here?

  10. As a HUGE Mesias fan I can’t wait too see him vs. Wagner.

    Is the Legion done?

  11. So odd… I tried to load AAA TV today and it said “The maxmium number of viewers for this channel has been reached.”

That’s never happened to me before.

  12. It did last week for me, go to Rob page and he usually upload the show while it’s going on.

  13. Last night’s show was very long, but I didn’t really feel like it was dragging at any point. I will admit that there were points in Mesias/Wagner where I wondered if they just hadn’t agreed on a finish yet. Maybe Wagner was negotiating his contract during the match?

Minis match on AAA today makes me think, if they are spoofing the Perros shouldn’t they end every match with a screwed up double DQ or double count out or no contest?

  14. *L* That’s an awesome observation.

I’m looking forward to the segunda with Gato/Billy/Aero Star appearing on youtube.

  15. I LOVE the Mesias vs. Wagner match, of course. My favorite match of the year. No down moments at all during the match. The chair spots and table spot blend in real well and added to the match.

Mesias,Wagner and Zorro is probably the most complete wrestlers in Mexico. All three make great rudos and tecnicos(they can deliver on both sides), all three can cut great promos, they can wrestle any style of match and look better than their opponents, and they marketable. I’m glad all three had major roles at Triplemania last night.

  16. Yeah Mesias/Wagner was very good and surprising. Also loved that it had no interference.

Oh and I saw clips of the Cage match, Kenzo rivals Black Warrior as Lucha’s best dressed man. That was awesome.

  17. How has Evans been received as a tecnico in ‘mania and elsewhere? I’ve seen him in a few spot shows before his turn and he was over only with little girls, and I mean 12 and under! Not sure how he would work as a tecnico although ‘mania would be a good gauge considering it’s Mexico City after all (booing Kozlov and Latin).

Also, has anyone kept track of the ArMex attendances after the ‘tico PAN spot? I knew it was a bad idea when I saw it, and it only was on the air for a weekend (don’t know who pulled the plug but someone did). But I guess he’d get even more booed after that.

  18. i just saw the preview of the AAA video game on youtube (even though someone taped the tv for it.it seem pretty good so far,the graphics are really good.

  19. @USAUSA1: I wouldn’t call the match my favorite of the year, but I do think it was the best I’ve see either Mesias or Wagner perform in the year and a half I’ve been watching lucha. Much less of a brawl than I was expecting, and I’ve adapted from years of watching WWE to accept crazy table spots not ending matches. I haven’t watched the youtube clip yet, but glad to hear it transferred well to TV too.

Two other thoughts on TripleMania (since I didn’t comment enough above). First, I really liked the TripleMania set. Clearly this has nothing to do with the quality of the show, but it made me appreciate a problem CMll faces. Their big shows “look” exactly the same as a normal Tuesday night show. Not sure they need to or can do anything about this as long as they are performing all big shows at Arena Mexico, but it jumped out at me.

Second, they did not pull the trigger on the Koslov rudo turn, but they should. He was booed throughout the match, especially when he did the russian dance/kick in the head. Not sure if this is only the DF crowd, but I think he could perform much better on the rudo side.

  20. @xuisaw: Evans got a decent reaction last night. Not sure if it was because of the “Team AAA” rub or if it was for him. Definitely much better reaction than Kozlov or Marco/Lover, but again that could be who he was teaming with. His small size should lend him some tecnico underdog love, but I think some of this will depend on how they book him over the next several months.

  21. Holy Shit! Policeman just did a dive and went over the head of his opponent on Puebla TV. What I saw of the match looked pretty good until that point (end of the segunda).

  22. Felinos Negro get on Puebla TV for the second straight week! Hijo de Ultraman and Guerrero Mayo Jr. also make TV, but I havent decided if that is good or not yet.

  23. @Calabcd44: I’m not sure. Didn’t see enough of Ultraman Jr. to be able to identify him vs another kid. Neither he or Guerrero Maya Jr. looked bad in this match though, so they could probably have some decent tag opener matches with Tiger/Puma at Arena Mexico if things go that way.

  24. WOO-HOO! I might have the Puebla TV format down after all. Locals always air and they never cut the same match slot two weeks in a row. Looking forward to seeing my favorite cat wrestlers again!

    Wait no…

    Gato Eveready is always #1.

  25. @Calabcd44: I couldn’t hear the announcers at the show and haven’t seen the video yet…and my lack of Spanish would make me a poor judge of that overall anyway.

Zorro’s crowd reaction throughout the night was actually interesting. Crowd cheered him when he came out for his match and I would say say a majority was for him throughout the match. Crowd popped when he started caning everyone in sight. I’d like to see the tape to see how the reaction was to the Charly cane shots. Crowd went somewhat silent after the slap as he walked out of the arena. The big surprise for me was that the crowd booed when he returned in the main event in his mask. At this point, I thought it was obvious that there was a tecnico turn coming and that the crowd would go nuts when he came out. Once he handed the cane to Roldan, there was a decent pop, and another when he got on his knee in front of Pena. I don’t think anyone noticed him leaving after that since the action started up again in the ring. I certainly didn’t, and I was a little confused when he wasn’t around for the big post match celebration. We’ll have to see how this plays out over the next couple of weeks.

Tony’s point above about what exactly they do with him as a tecnico when you already have Wagner and Mesias at the top, Jack as the new tec, Parka/Octagon as the defenders of AAA, and Latin and Marco as a top tag team. Midcard tecnicos are also deep right now with the Mexican Powers and D-Mex. I suspect Mesias might turn back now so that they have more rudos at the top, and think a Kozlov turn makes sense, but that still doesn’t free up much space for him. I guess feuding with Konan might move him up the card as opposed to Xpac at least.

  26. I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that Puebla will not be getting an Ultimo Guerrero/Averno mask match despite the challenge thrown down at the end of the show.

  27. Latin booed? Didn’t see that coming
Zorro helped Roldan? REALLY didn’t see that one coming, so is Zorro technico again or has he just totally lost his mind?

  28. @Alan: Holy poo… Policeman’s overshot tope was scaaaaaaaaaary. I hope he’s alright. Not sure how Asturiano messed up the catch except he must have thought Policeman wouldn’t fly so far.

(Attn Cubs for the DB: Tecs won the opener thanks to a 2-on-1 in the third fall.)

I thought Guajardo Jr. looked especially bad this week. Lots of botches and he almost broke his arm catching the tope suicida at the end. He looks young so lots of time to improve. Same for Astro Boy who had the most experience of anyone in the match and yet looked awful as usual! What’s his excuse? Pretty sure this is the same Ultraman Jr. who worked IWRG and has appeared on various indy shows. He didn’t do much. Guerrero Multifactico was the standout. It’s still early (only one match in this role…) but he seems like he could eventually be a good La Mascara type worker. Solid but not spectacular. He’ll need a new gimmick obviously.

  29. DOH…

And of course Los Gatos Negros. They didn’t have much to work with sadly so it was a throwaway appearence. I’d like to see a Puebla tag with them vs Asturiano and Centella De Oro.
