CMLL/AAA Top 10s

I always read all the comments, even if I didn’t remember to reply to them. Here’s one now:

I’m really trying to figure out some kind of ranking of CMLL (based on how the company pushes/ranks them, not ability or anything else. Kinda like how Cena is obviously #1 of WWE, with the next 5 quite clearly being HHH, Edge, Taker, Orton and Batista in debatable order). Obviously Mistico would be #1, with Ultimo Guerrero #2? From comments I’ve read Shocker would have been really high a few years ago, but less so now? Who ranks higher for the rudos, Averno, Atlantis or Negro Casas? Can anyone give me a rough idea what the top 10 of CMLL is?

Thought about this last night, and scribbled a top 10. Let’s see what I had, and please remember this is us trying to estimate how CMLL sees things right at this moment, not how we’d like to see them.

  1. Mistico
  2. Ultimo Guerrero
  3. Negro Casas
  4. Dos Caras Jr.
  5. Shocker
  6. Averno
  7. Hector Garza
  8. Mr. Niebla
  9. Blue Panther
  10. Texano Jr.

Sombra probably would be 10, but Texano kinda has to be after last week’s tournament. I don’t believe it’ll be the same a month from now.

CMLL believes Shocker is #2 tecnico (hey, he won Tuesday!), and he’s doing an even feud with Dos (who’s position is less arguable, I hope.)

What I wrote for AAA

  1. Konnan
  2. Joaquin Roldan
  3. Maricela Pena
  4. Dr. Wagner Jr.
  5. Mesias
  6. La Parka
  7. Latin Lover
  8. Marco Corleone
  9. Silver King
  10. Electroshock

and probably Zorro and X-Pac and Jack in that order, if you insist on only wrestlers, but that wouldn’t be truly accurate in terms of TV.

I’m not sure Santo should be considered if he’s just in for one show, but I guess just between Parka and Latin if I had to put him somewhere.

  1. It really shows the depth that CMLL has right now and how it feels like they don’t know what to do with everyone.

  2. If you really want to see depth you should try to rate the midcard guys in CMLL. You’d need a top 50!

Joaquin can probably outwork Konnan at this point.

CMLL list looks good although I might stick Atlantis in under Averno and get Niebla off the list.

I told you Zorro would be the big loser with Wagner and Corleone coming in.

  3. @Rob: Are you kidding? Niebla’s over and he fights for our type of people…The dirty, the stinky and ugly of the world! That sounds like all of us on the board! At least that’s what I think y’all look like! I imagine all of you having dust particles flying around your heads kind of like Pigpen from the Peanuts cartoon and giant Afros listening to cumbia music while posting on here. That’s obviously why Cubs ranked him in the top 10. He knows his audience!

Watch this video and tell me that isn’t you and everyone else posting on here:

  4. Maybe Mysterio could end up AAA after all? From the new WON: “Mysterio was not at TV. At Raw, there was word going around among the wrestlers that he gave notice, but we can’t confirm that story. Mysterio is still on the lineups for the weekend house shows.” Who knows, no one is making a big deal of it and this was basically buried in the newsletter but I thought it was worth noting here.

  5. @Rob: I doubt he knows much about anyone in Mexico who weren’t working 15 years ago not named Mistico outside of what he’s told by Sims ,Konnan, etc. He can’t be bothered to watch, even when stuff get’s big praise. But if anyone ever finds video of any of the Mexico based MMA shows he will definitely watch every one, despite never hearing of any of the guys on the show.

  6. @Anonymous: I agree with everything you said but I’m still confused as to where the Dave/Marcela comment came from unless you meant another Dave?

Oh… and no matter how awful the top of AAA is currently, I would return to being a hardcore fan blind to all that is wrong with the promotion if my hero returned. So it’s obviously not happening.

  7. @Rob: It would be awesome if Rey Jr. returned to AAA , and left that shit hole (WWE).;) Speaking of AAA my hero just needs end his feud with X-Pac, and turn tecnico again.

  8. @Anonymous: In Dave’s defense (for a change)… there are 19 titles to keep track of so it can get hard. Most likely it was a typo when Dr. Lucha sent him the news which is understandable since Sims is probably euforic over the Blue Jays current 3 game win streak that is soon to become 4~!

  9. @Anonymous: @Calabcd44: @Rob: If you think about it the “What if Rey went to AAA right now” senario is very interesting considering current events.

Fantasma is making a stink about a mask lost 20 years ago. If Rey went back would they still allow him to use it without the power of the WWE behind them? My gut says no because they would want to show the world who is in charge.

So if they didn’t and he went on without the mask would he be nearly as popular as he is right now?

My conclusion is NO. He’d be over at first but he’d quickly fizzle like he did when he was in CMLL back in 2001. Going to AAA would be bad.

  10. @LLL: Maybe she should be, but she’s working the openers and second matches and highly unlikely to main event with this current crew.

  11. @LLL: I think that he would be in the top five if the list was based on work rate. But its based upon push so dream on.

  12. @Jake: Fantasma isn’t making a stink about Silver King wrestling in his mask b/c he’s already done it on D.F. shows. This all started when the rumors were AAA was going to do Parka vs Silver King in a mask match. Fantasma was against that happening b/c we know who would lose and you can’t lose the same mask twice in the D.F. area. It snowballed from that point with AAA ignoring Fantasma who then changed his tune to Silver King can’t work the show with a mask no matter what.

  13. @Rob: I get that. I just think that moving forward for a little bit that anything under the AAA banner would have trouble.

The commission likes to pull power plays because they know that their time is drawing near. Its only a matter of time before its done away with.

  14. @Jake: 100% agree. The fact Konnan, Jack and Silver King are all going to show up on Saturday is going to end the commision once and for all. Maybe it’ll continue exist in name only but their power will be non-existent except to sit at ringside in title matches and pretend not to see the cheating unless they are called upon for an angle.

  15. I think this is irrelevant since it doesn’t sound like Rey is going anywhere (PWInsider via lordsofpain is saying that his absence is a result of his needing to rest a nagging knee injury). But, I think the big difference would that Rey would probably handle the situation better than Silver King and the rest of AAA and go in and ask to wear the mask, similar to how it has been handled by WWE on their tours. He seems smart enough to head this off in advance, and the Commission would have an easy out since they have already allowed it for WWE.

  16. @Alan: I agree… It was all part of a “What if….” Rey would be a fool to go anywhere.

@Rob: The commission isn’t going away that easy Rob. It’d take a front page coming out party in the press to get rid of them in my opinion.
