05/30-31 Lucha Times

Box.

AAA-US: The Las Vegas show, with Cibernetico’s cameo and the Psycho Circus actually facing a decent team.

52MX: Angels vs Tuareg, Avernos vs Guerreros

LATV(maybe)/FOX: Tuareg vs Cometa/Pegasso/Leono, plus the grab back of Mascara/Sombra/Volador vs Dragon/Lizmark/Misterioso

—-

CMLL: Averno vs Panther, plus No Limit debuts and Poder Mexica actually teams up.

AAA: Cruisereweight finals, previews of TripleMania.

C3: Rey vs Epehsto, Mistico & co vs Pesta Negra, minis

Puebla: Mistico vs UG, Fantasma/Sombra/Volador vs Pesta Negra, probably the locals and not the women. Did we ever get a lineup for Puebla last week?

Ephesto defeats Bucanero, AAA & CMLL schedule updates

CMLL (TUE) 05/26 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, Avellaneda @ box y lucha]
1) ApocalipsisRamsteinRayo Tapatio IRayo Tapatio II
2) AmapolaCrazy StarLa SeductoraMarcelaSahoriStar Fire

4) FelinoMr. NieblaNegro CasasLa SombraMisticoVolador Jr.
5) EphestoRey Bucanero [CMLL LH]

Ephesto is the 11th Champion. Rey tookk the first fall, Ephesto took the second. In the third, Ephesto threw Rey out of the ring, where he hurt his left knee. The match was paused to check on Rey’s knee, and the doctor said Rey could do more, ending the match. Rey was taken to the hospital, and Ephesto got the belt. Could be a story, could be an injury, could be a real knee injury that they turned into a story to write him out, we’ll have to wait to see. Bucanero is supposed to be in Acapulco today, and then on the Sunday Coliseo show.

Can anyone think of a CMLL title change before on a ref stop? I guess they could’ve ruled it a CO too.

Total rudo night, and the main event wasn’t the only one affected by injuries. Rookies Star Fire (right leg) and Crazy Star (neck) both were hurt in the women’s match.

Shockercito and Mini Damian will have their hair match next week.

Lizmark says he’s going to retire on July 4th, after a Luchas 2000 Arena Coliseo show. Lizmark’s been calling himself self-retired in recent years, not having wrestled much in recent years. Lizmark says he doesn’t feel like he’s at the top of his game anymore, and probably wouldn’t beat able to successfully defend his mask, so he’s getting out while he still can. Lizmark plans to continue running his gym, and notes that he retired to do that one before in 1992, but was convinced by Antonio Pena on to join AAA and started up again. Lizmark feels his best work was in the 70s and 80s.

AAA says the next taping is June 7th in Pachuca, so that Acapulco taping was either a mistake or rescheduled. BTW, AAA mentioning me on their site and accusing me of professionalism feels so strange. “Critical of all promotions and wrestlers” is hilarious accurate. It is clear that I like lucha libre, right?

CMLL has an updated list of their June notable shows. Some of this is repeat info, but just to put all in one place:

06/02: Tuesday Fan appreciation show (Mini Damian/Shockercito)
06/08: GDL Sunday Fan appreciation show
06/12: Kid’s Day makeup show! There’s nothing kids like better than seeing part 2 of a three part pointless tournament. Actually, I take my hat off to CMLL here for it’s scheming – if you’re taking your kids to this show for cheap tickets, you’re surely less likely to walk up and buy tickets to TripleMania the next day. And it’s easier than building a match people want to see!
06/14: Sunday Fan appreciation show
06/19: Friday Arena Puebla appreciation show (plus the tournament final in Arena Mexico)
06/21: GDL 50th Anniversary show; the date is pretty close to accurate, so it may not be a show just to run against an indy show.

WagnerMania is closing on June 26th. The last part of the notice mentions they’ll be doing a new page on lucha libre, and I hope they do, because they’ve done a good job with the current site.

Kcidis looks at the evolution in rudo struggles.

Box Y Lucha has an interview with Matematico & Cotorreando con Box Y Lucha has a tearful interview with Axxel.

SuperLuchas has Santo gear.

Luchas 2000 #471 has Santo in AAA, the champs tournament in CMLL and Canek & Villano III on their own show on the 4th.

Segunda Caida watches 05/14/09 IWRG. Ohtani’s Jacket also checks out IWRG: Black Terry vs Fantasma de la Opera from 2007, and the 05/21/09 show

LuchaWorld has Robert on CMLL 52MX 05/31/08 and 06/07/08 and Cadena3 2/2/2008 – in retrospect, it’s great that they’ve forgot the Fabian/Diamante feud – plus KrisZ’s news update.

CMLL (WED) 06/10 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [poster]
1) Pequeño Universo 2000, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito vs Saturno, Shockercito, Ultimo Dragoncito
2) Black Silver Jr., Hijo de Black Silver, Ludwig Star vs El Destroyer, la Orca, Pez Tigre
3) Cien Caras Jr., Euforia, Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG), Pierroth II vs Fabian el Gitano, Marco Rivera, Tony Rivera, Vangelis
4) Misterioso II, Terrible, Texano Jr. vs Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Rey Bucanero and Lizmark Jr., Shocker, Veneno and Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V [Copa Pierroth]

Benefit show for Pierroth, which accounts for the IWRG names. Though, there’s been enough periodic rumors that the Junior Capos are headed to CMLL that I wouldn’t be surprised if this lineup is a hint.

CMLL (SAT) 06/20 Auditorio Benito Juarez [Notiver]
1) Flash & Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte & Skandalo
2) Dark Angel & Marcela vs Amapola & Princesa Blanca
3) Sagrado & Valiente vs Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara vs Misterioso II, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas
5) Atlantis, Dos Caras Jr., Ultimo Guerrero vs Mistico, Shocker, Volador Jr.

Intersting to see them do full shows for someplace besides Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara.

Tuesday notes, GDL full results, Guerrero Maya Jr.

Preview of tonight’s Arena Mexico show: Ovaciones. The show is all on Rey vs Epehsto for the CMLL LH title. As noted earlier, Ephesto has never won a singles title in CMLL. (He did win the very short lived Middleweight title in Promo Azteca back when he was Pantera del Ring.) This may be the only second chance he’s had at one; I don’t see another challenge besides the really good match versus Sombra last Decemeber for the NWA Welterweight Title. Rey has held has championship for 34.5 months with 15 known defenses, but hasn’t defended in Mexico City since last October. The level of the belt has dropped during Rey’s reign, but some of that is because previous champion Ultimo Guerrero was pushed as the best wrestler in the company when he had the championship (and after), while Rey’s just been yet another guy holding a belt.

CMLL (SUN) 05/24 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en El Ring]
1) Angel del Mal & Relampago Azul b Hierro & Skaxy
2) Drago & Rafaga b Metatron & Palacio Negro
3) Leon Blanco & Magnum b Asesino Negro & Infierno
4) Neutron, Stuka Jr., Virgo b Mr. Trueno, Vangelis, Virus
5) Black Warrior, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Blue Panther, Mascara Dorada, Sagrado
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Hector Garza, Mistico, Shocker

Covered the top 2 matches when MedioTempo wrote about this show, but there are a couple underneath things worth noting. Neutron and Mr. Trueno are apparently building towards a title match. I have zero idea what belt they’re supposed to be feuding over; Neutron’s the champ in the feud. Also, the opening match guy named “Drago” is the same guy who’s sometimes listed as “Dragon”; I don’t think we’re sure what we’re supposed to be close by.

(Guerrero Maya Jr. picture from DJ Spectro, originally from Luchas 2000 I believe.)
(Guerrero Maya Jr. picture from DJ Spectro, originally from Luchas 2000 I believe.)

There’s a post on Box Y Lucha’s forum saying Sunday’s debuting Guerrero Maya Jr. is better known as IWRG’s Multifacetico. Multifacetico last turned up in IWRG just before the flu cancellations, but seemed downplayed the last couple months. Photo is to the right, you can make the call.

The story CMLL’s telling is Guerrero Maya retired to Merida after his five years of wrestling in CMLL, pursing other careers, but now his son is taking the name. Guerrero Maya Sr. never lost his mask. In reality, this would seem to indicate Multifacetico is one of Black Terry’s sons (though not BlackTerryJr), which gives a different spin on all that feud between Black Terry and Multifacetico.

Averno is looking forward to facing Blue Panther, but is not afraid of him. Averno points out Panther knows how good he is, because Panther picked him to wrestle in his 25th anniversary match. Averno says he’s not giving Mistico another shot at his belts, because Mistico had his chance and lost. All Mistico is getting a mask or a hair match.

In Box Y Lucha (via DJ Spectro) has Principe Valiente talking about his debut.

Universo 2000 has opened his own gym. Universo doesn’t look much like Universo in the pictures.

(via SuperLuchas) Northern California indy Pro Wrestling Revolution is bringing Mephisto and Shocker in, sometime this summer.

Ras de Lona has everyone visiting a torture exhibit. Almost no sight of anything from Thursday’s press conference (only Mima’s centerfold discussion – and that might have been from a previous press conference), though they did have interviews from backstage on Friday.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, including hugo999’s Puebla results I can never seem to find anymore. Go click on the link and check them out.

CMLL (WED) 05/27 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [eventos_acapulco @ box y lucha]
1) Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas, Rey Bucanero vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
2) La Sombra vs Mephisto [NWA WELTER]
3) Hector Garza, Mistico, Shocker vs Atlantis, Dos Caras Jr., Ultimo Guerrero

An actual lineup! There’s a women’s match we’re missing, and a locals one. It’d be nice if we got results for this show but I’m not exactly holding my breath.

EAW (SAT) 06/06 El Pinal, Teziutlan
1) Iron Boy, Luminoso, Skalibur vs American Rebelde, Mike Castillo, the Rocket
2) Scorpio Jr. & Zumbido vs Histeria & Psicosis II
3) El Alebrije, Intocable, La Park vs Monsther, Pirata Morgan, Super Crazy

An actual EAW show, wow. Poster says it’s being taped for TV, so it may turn up on TVC Dpeortes at some point. Kinda weird to do a promotion built around having two rings for bigger stunts, when really Super Crazy is the only one in the main event who is going to use it. Park and Pirata are ending up in the crowd, Monsther and Alebrije are doing comedy.

2009 AAA TV Chart
Projected Air Date (#891)
Mexico: 06/07
US: 06/27

Opener sounds like the usual relevos AAA. Guapito was at ringside to watch his minis. Fabi may now be feuding more with Sexi Star than Billy.

Still not sure if Extreme Tiger is meant to be a tecnico. That team still got along enough to win. After the match, Alex and Konnan ended up in the ring, which Konnan demanding Koslov pick one of the winners to be his opponent at TripleMania for the cruiserweight title. Alex decided to pick all three for a four way hardcore title match. Not Alex’s smartest move.

I was wrong on AAA’s team – Jack did end up returning as a rep of Roldan on this show, teaming with Vampiro. Before that, Chessman and Teddy were presented as offical members of the Legion’s team, so we’ve got the full five on five now. Jack got destroyed again in this match and strechered to the back, but made the non-surprise return to help win the match for his team. Everyone from AAA came out to welcome him to their side.

Top two matches seem devoid of major plot developments. Zorro did get X-Pac clean with a submission. Electro beat the new champ Alex clean with his submission.  New cruiserweight champion lost on his first show with the belt, another non-surprise.

Next show is Saturday in Acapulco, though we haven’t heard much about that show since it was announced.

Sunday Guadalajara, Rayo & Canek

CMLL (SUN) 05/24 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT: 5, 6]
5) Black Warrior, Terrible, Texano Jr. b Blue Panther, Mascara Dorada, Sagrado
6) Felino, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas b Hector Garza, Mistico, Shocker

Negro snuck a foul on Mistico. Warrior countered a Sagrado planch with a dropkick for the deciding fall in the semimian.

Al Filo del Ring talks to Canek and Rayo about their impending match at the June legends show. Canek says he’s at 97% (exactly), and is still complaining about not getting the UWA shot. Rayo reminds us – and probably Canek – that Canek is currently the IWRG champion. I think it’d be fun if IWRG held a #1 contenders match for that title without informing Canek, and then the winner complained that Canek wouldn’t show up to defend, but I suspect that’s more a money issue. Speaking of pointless titles, Rayo would give Canek a shot at his WWA title, as long as Canek agrees in advance to do a mask match after.

Al Filo del Ring also talks to Super Astro about flying wrestlers.

Box Y Lucha 2923 has Santo in AAA. ByL television episode.

Guerreros #190 has the Bizzaros.

Sunday Coliseo, last Sunday GDL, Santo

CMLL (SUN) 05/24 Arena Coliseo [Alan, Record]
1) Metalico & Sensei b Artillero & Super Comando
2) Amapola, La Nazi, Princesa Sujei b Estrella Magica, Lady Apache, Sahori
3) Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Shigeo Okumura b Leono, Pegasso, Rey Cometa
4) La Mascara, La Sombra, Volador Jr. b Dragon Rojo Jr., Lizmark Jr., Misterioso II
5) Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto b Atlantis, Rey Bucanero, Ultimo Guerrero

Avernos took the first, Guerreros took the third, Ephesto got Rey clean in the third fall. He still wants the mask/hair match, but he wants to take care of winning the title on Tuesday first, since he hasn’t won a big singles title in his career. If Ephesto does win, does that mean he takes Rey’s spot in the Champions Tournament? Or did I just give away Tuesday’s finish? (hope you liked this bit the first time.)

Alan says semimatch was great.

AAA (THU) 05/14 Explanada Municipal de Mejapam de Madero Yautepec, Oaxaca [SuperLuchas 316]
1) Cyborg (Oaxaca) & Dark b Centinela & Principe Condor
2) Furia Poblana & Super Rockero b Guayuka & Pachuco Salvaje
3) Cinthia Moreno & La Hechicera b Mari Apache & Tiffany
4) Silver Cat I & Silver Cat II b Epidemia & Simbolo [AULL TAG]
5) Alan Stone & Octagon b Black Abyss & Electro Shock

Just to note another AULL Title defense in Oaxaca.

CMLL (TUE) 05/19 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [SuperLuchas 316]
1) Thunder Boy b Acertijo
2) Virgo b Idolo
3) Casanova b Rey Trueno
4) Nube Roja b Exterminador
5) Gallo & Metal Blanco b Mascara Magica & Satanico
6) Mascara Dorada & Sagrado b Dragon Rojo Jr. & Sangre Azteca
7) Hector Garza, Mictlan, Shocker b Averno, Dos Caras Jr., Mephisto

Full results never turned up on CMLL.com, so there you go. Speaking of CMLL not doing something with it’s website, instead of just saying they’re running big shows in Acapuclo and Arena Isabel, why not put up the posters? Someone has the file. Or did they and I couldn’t find it?

SuperLuchas #316 has an interview with El Hijo del Santo. Santo justifies working for AAA despite critical comments of Konnan after the bit with Juvi by explaining that’s exactly why has to work here – he’s got to help the Roldan’s get the company back. Santo and interviewer discuss facing old rival Silver King; no one seems to discuss the reason he’s an old rival is because Santo was the one who took Silver King’s mask, which he’s now wearing again. Maybe Santo can win it twice.

Santo’s a busy man, also replacing Cibernetico in the main event of the big Torreon indy show which was pushed back to June 5th due to the flu.

AAA’s listing for tommorow’s TV taping says the mystery tag team facing Teddy & Chessman will be Roldan’s pick. This would seem to mean it’ll be the last two guys on AAA’s team, which is scheduled to be Vamp & Elegido (near of which is otherwise on this card.) Wouldn’t be too surprised to see Jack show up somehow to set up a separate match with Teddy at TripleMania.

In hyping up Tuesday’s big match, Blue Panther reminds us he was the first CMLL World Middleweight Champion, so the match versus Averno is about Panther getting back what’s should be his. It’s not mentioned here, but Panther never actually lost the title; he vacated it on jumping to AAA six months in. It would be a pretty great story if this was his first shot in 17 years, but he did a couple shots at Ringo Mendoza in ’99 and ’00. Question: if Blue Panther wins, is he in the champions tournament? Averno would still have the NWA title*, so the field would have to expand to 17. Or did I just give away Friday’s finish?

* – it may have just been random coincidence, or people forgetting their belts, but the NWA title belts were conspicuously missing from the photo of all the champions (who showed up) to announce the tournament. Averno & Sombra were there, but only had their CMLL titles. Texano was not there, and they have to be still counting the NWA titles to have him in the tournament. I love the history of the titles, and I don’t think they should just be handed back to this NWA because they said so, but 2 (or 3) less belts would be a fine start. They probably just didn’t want them in the picture and it means nothing, but it’s nice to dream.

Shocker is upset with Dos winning by cheating on Friday. If you didn’t see the finish, Shocker catapulted Dos, and Dos threw his mask off in process. Tiger Hispano blamed Shocked for the DQ. Shocker’s all ready to do the apuesta thing.

So is Mini Damain 666. Damian makes the outrageous claim that Shockercito is not actually guapo, but actually very feo. No wonder Shockercito agreed to the hair match, he certainly can’t let such things stand.

EAW was in Hidalgo. Not running a show, of course not, but scouting Super Crazy’s kids to see if they’re good enough to work the undercard of any show they might run.

Ohtani’s Jacket writes about a a great Sangre Chicana vs Perro AGuayo match from 1992.

WrestlingObserver has their AAA Recap. Xavier asks how many of the ‘300’ Psycho Circus wins we’ve actually seen on TV, so I went and checked: 21. Next week is 22, or 7% of them.

LuchaWorld has KrisZ’s news update, and Robert on 02/10/08 AAA and 10/30/07 ACM with a wrestling donkey.

Don’t usually post PROLLM to the front page, but they’ve got Porky working against CMLL stars for the first time since he’s left. He (and Angelico) appear to be on the card as indy guys brought in for the week, but I’m sure there’s hopes of turning it into something more.
