– Black Abyss vs Ozz vs Abismo Negro vs Latin Lover in a Rey de Reyes semifinal – even with the backsliding, or maybe because of it, Abismo Negro and Latin Lover’s relationship was far more interesting than most anything else in this tournament
– Joe Lider vs Silver King vs Alan Stone vs Elegido in a Rey de Reyes semifinal – a match.
– Nicho vs Electroshock vs Super Fly vs Octagon in a Rey de Reyes semifinal – not even a match!
– Escoria vs Kenzo Suzuki vs Super Porky vs La Parka Jr. in a Rey de Reyes semifinal – Parka’s switched to the armbar because it’s easier for him to do than a small package, correct?
Not that this tournament was going to mean anything anyway – you’ll note how six weeks later, it matters not at all (Electro is back to generic goon, and Zorro seems to have gotten the feud with Charly instead) – but could’ve they have saved themselves some trouble and just sliced the fourways into singles matches? Absimo/Latin (Abyss interferes), Silver King/Elegido, Electro/Super Fly, Parka/Kenzo. Just like this tournament was run because this tournament is always run, the four ways happened because it’s always fourways, but there wasn’t any effort into them.
– Chessman vs Mesias for the AAA Mega Heavyweight Championship in a cage match: part 1, part 2 – both guys lean super heavy on doing using whatever hardcore spots to a pop in a big match, and then completely ignoring it five seconds later (so everyone else does.) This was all their worse impulses coming out, a half hour of pointless forgettable spots with no story. They did make the last spot mean something, but they took forever to get there.
Let’s look back at this championship story again:
– Mesias throws Chessman off a high place thru a table
– Chessman pins Mesias
– Chessman beats Mesias again with help from the Legion
– Mesias throws Chessman off a high place thru a table
???? Crafty of Mesias to expose Chessman’s weakness of being thrown from a high place thru a table.
This was one of the best AAA shows in a VERY long time. It was even better than part 1 of Guerra de Titanes 2008. With the exception of the last match it was Mexican wrestling the way it should be done. It was mostly traditional Mexican wrestlers in the ring, the matches made sense and nothing was done for shock value. (again I’m excluding the last match here)Plus the art and showmanship was great. I wouldn’t be surprised if Konnan had very little or not say in booking this show.
-We saw Abismo Negro’s last match and even though he lost it was a respectable way to lose. He didn’t get beaten down and destroyed, he got rolled up and pinned by not just any westler but the biggest wrestling star in Mexico–Latin Lover.
Abismo did refuse the handshake, but I think the intention was to continue the Latin Lover vs Abismo Negro feud.
-Octagon and Electroshock should have had more one on one time in the ring as these two have good chemestry in the ring. At Guerra de Titanes 2007 they put on a clinic in the ring and I was looking forward to seeing another clinic but they weren’t given enough time for that.
-Good to see Pepe Tropicasas in the Hall of Fame
-The cage match was a typical garbage plunder waste of time except for one part. When Latin Lover came out with a chair and chased away all they bad guys who the got caught by Aero Star flying down from the steel cage. That was so awesome and un-expected. I thoght the match was over but it kept going. This would have been a good way to end it though.
-Gotta love how we were given away the ending of the Konnan Vampiro match by seeing Arturo River come out with a shaved head. Whoever edited this show really should have taken this into consideration.

You’re absolutely right. No more negativity allowed. I don’t want to hear you ever bash CMLL again or old-time wrestles who claim the WWE and AAA are ruining wrestling. In fact, by the time I get home from work and hitting the bar to watch Caps/Pens game 7 – I expect to see you post something nice about CMLL.
