AAA-US: Abismo Negro tribute, trios, Rey de Rey final, and that hair match (this time for sure.)

52MX: Marcela/Rosa Negra plus Guerreros vs Maximo/Shocker/Dos

FOX/LATV: Negro/Mistico, Fantasma/Mascara/Stuka vs Misterioso/Sangre/Okumura

—-

CMLL: Mistico/Garza/Shocker vs Terrible/Texano and new rudo Dos

AAA-MEX: The Las Vegas taping, which we never got results (or a final lineup.) Unless Las Vegas didn’t get taped, which is a possibility.

C3: Panther/Sombra/Volador vs Ephesto/Mephisto/Texano

AAA Launches Free Streaming Video

Announced today on their website, and via mogulus.com, AAA is now streaming video on line. They actually have had their own video section, but haven’t really updated it much since the relaunch. Hopefully this makes it easier for them.

You can find the feed on AAA’s webpage, or over at http://www.mogulus.com/aaatv, and I’ve got a streaming player after the link (assuming I can get it to work). There’s a mention of on-demand video as well as streaming, but there doesn’t appear to be that option right now. There’s no schedule of what’s to air when, which is needed if this is to be more than a novelty.

The same Stones/Hart Foundation 2 match seems to be repeating – you’d hope they’d have more content on Day 1. I wonder at the rights they actually have to be airing this – Televisa blocks the US from viewing similar content via their website – but that’s not my problem. In a perfect world, they put up new episodes every Tuesday (and classic episodes every Thursday!) and the rest of the world doesn’t have to worry about capping them ourselves again.

I don’t think we’re so close to that, though – notice the Galavision logo in the upper left. They’re not getting this footage from AAA themselves, someone taped it off US TV.

There’s more to be done here, and AAA’s news article about this being an invoation is hilarious, because Mexico is so far behind everywhere else, but it’s a good start. They’re clearly doing better than CMLL, though I don’t want to celebrate until they show they can update the channel regularly.

04/15: Mexico, Tampico, IWRG

CMLL (TUE) 04/14 Arena Mexico [ESTO]
1) Semental & Zayco b Starman & Trueno
2) Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Warrior, Pierrothito b Fantasy, Pequeño Olímpico, Shockercito
3) Flash, Pegasso, Rey Cometa b Arkangel de la Muerte, Loco Max, Skandalo
4) Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca b Mascara Dorada, Mictlan, Sagrado
5) Ephesto, Mephisto, Terrible b Blue Panther, La Sombra, Volador Jr.

ESTO says good attendance. I do not know why. Nothing of note occurred.

Ovaciones doesn’t cover the show, talking up Friday’s card. They also break the news that Lluvia took Magnifica’s mask two weeks ago.

CMLL SPARTAN (WED) 04/08 Auditorio Municipal de Tampico [The Gladiatoes]
1) Oro Negro & Transmetal b Alejandro Montana and Guerrillero and Super Lobo and Mercurio and Iron Boy and Jimmy Torres [cibernetico]
2) Shockercito & Tzuki b Pequeño Damian 666 & Pierrothito
3) Astro Boy b Pegasso and Rey Cometa and Angel de Oro and Angel de Plata and King Boy
4) Black Warrior, Dr. Karonte, Sangre Azteca b Bronco III, Loco Castillo, Maximo
5) Oro Negro b Transmetal [SPARTAN STATE]
6) Dos Caras Jr., Hector Garza, Volador Jr. b Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Ultimo Guerrero

I guess they forgot to send a replacement for Toscano, because Volador got bumped up to his spot in the main event and Bronco worked on the rudo side with Dr. Karonte fillng in as a tecnico.

IWRG (SUN) 04/12 Arena Naucalpan [the Gladiatores]
1) COmando Negro b Gizmo
2) Azoka & Daga b Carta Brava Jr. & Chico del Barrio
3) Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro b Capitan Muerte, Testuya Bushi, Xiblaba
4) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II b Trauma I & Trauma II
5) Angelico, Fuerza Guerrera, Super Porky b Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Negro Navarro, Veneno

Angelico beat Negro Navarro clean, but the build is to a no DQ Fuerza/Veneno match. In the semimain, one of the Gemelos pinned one of the Traumas with a rana and his arms holding the ropes, which seems to indicate which team is turning. Xibalba challenges for a title shot despite losing – champs said no.

The Gladiatores also posted their recap of the AAA Neza show and an interview with Fureza Guerrera’s students

DJ Spectro reprints Picudo telling Box Y Lucha he’s out of AAA and adds Angel to the rumored departure list. Picudo’s going to continuing training wrestlers, just outside of AAA. Meanwhile, it looks like Nygma is part of a new unit Cibernetico’s formed, called the Bizzaros. Bad name. I feel like I should be able to identify the other guys but can’t.

El Siglo de Torreon folows up on Silver King’s claim that he can wear his mask. They ask El Fantasma, who says Silver King is wrong – he lost that mask to Hijo del Santo and can’t wear it again. Also, can’t put on any new mask until five years after he lost the Black Tiger mask (which means a 2011.) Me and Fantasma, we’re on the same page. Also ALSO, Silver King is currently in trouble with the DF commission because he told them he was going to just wear the Silver King mask to the ring recently, then just went ahead and wrestled with it, and bolted from the dressing room before they could question him about it. It’s up the indiviual comissions to enforce the rules here, but it sounds like Silver King is not supposed to be able to wrestle in Mexico City until this clears up. (We’ll see.)

AAA denies a rumor about Ozz going to WWE, a rumor I did not know existed until AAA denied it. Ozz would go to WWE only if there was a talent sharing relationship. I would drive to the moon only if the roads were toll free.

In the comments, Roberot posted Tercera Caida’s preview of the AAA Neza show, including the Juvi parody. That press confrence is today.

In Oaxaca, Zigdried retired from wrestling this Sunday. He had made a deal with his parents that he would end his career whenever he lost his third hair match, and Challenger’s victory over him was number 3.

Kcidis has a cartoon about Texano’s title win.

Cesar evaulates Mictlan & Maximo. My guess is the final rating is not meant to be an addition of the other ratings, but I’m not sure.

Updated card for tonight’s AAA show in SLP has Pimpi in Alebrije’s spot and an trofeo Abismo Negro torneo to replace Abismo Negro vs Black Abyss.

The founder of the Lucha Libre Expo talks it up to Notimex.

Alex Koslov will be joining the Solo Por Muerte

Ohtani’s Jacket watches Satanico vs Super Astro from 1984; I can’t believe Satanico ever had awesome hair.

LuchaWorld has Robert on CMLL 12/22/07, Cadena3 12/15/07 and KrisZ’s news update.

04/14: AAA, Box Y Lucha

Highlight of my day is AAA’s website writing about the Montreal Screwjob. See, the idea is, if you’re going to be vastly derivative, you should at least explain who and what you’re deriving from, and the Jack/Lider/Konnan skit is being said to being like a follow up skit WWF did a week later (with a midget and stickers.) Why that skit, and not the dozens of much more recent examples, who can say. It’s also amusing that they go over that this is a copy of something someone else did somewhere else, but don’t explain why AAA would be doing it at this point. I saw a post on Box Y Lucha saying AAA justified it, and it doesn’t read that me to me – they’re only explaining their joke.

Juvi and Lizzy Valentine are mentioned as “apparently not longer part of AAA”, which is one of those lines that makes me sure luchalibreaaa is actually just a fan run site who gets press releases from AAA.

AAA also says El Brazo has not left. No word on the other half dozen guys. There’s also an article about the Jack/Teddy issues.

Ovaciones previews Dos Caras Jr. as a rudo, ESTO highlights Black Warrior’s return

AAA’s posted their lineup for Friday’s TV Taping: Marco is in Dr. Wagner’s spot (though elsewhere on their site, they list it as surprise wrestler.) Wagner’s booked on a Perros show the same night, so that’s was probably why. Lineups still feature a lot of 2 tecnicos vs 3 rudo matches, as well as Alebrije booked next Sunday. No sign of El Brazo – if El Brazo is with AAA but doesn’t wrestle, does it matter?

Sicodelico Jr. has signed a developmental deal with WWE and will be headed to their Florida Championship Wrestling developmental promotion. This has been talked about for nearly a year now; his dark match was back in June (at the recommendation of Super Crazy!) but most of the attention has focused on his cousin, Dos Caras Jr. Over WrestleMania week, Rey Misterio Jr. mentioned his concern about the lack of Mexican wrestlers coming to the WWE in a few different places, so maybe there was a recent push to get this finally resolved. Sicodelico is a former Gran Alternativa winner and worked CMLL from Oct 2000 till the end of 2003 and worked in CMLL and IWRG in 2006, but has mostly been based in Texas and worked for US indies (including the NWA), off the usual radar of this blog. Since he’s worked with US workers so much, I wouldn’t expect he’ll have any style problems with WWE. Like everyone else, he’s just got to wrestle at least okay with FCW and hope someone in WWE had an idea for him (and until they come up with that idea, no idea if he’ll keep his mask or not – though I would expect a name change.)

On Box Y Lucha:
Villano III talks about recently passed friends Dianamico I & Alejandro Romero
– A story about Mistico praising Absimo Negro turned into another discussion of the Arena Mexico fans and Mistico. Mistico says only those fans boo him, and they only boo him because he’s hitting Negro Casas, but he’s got tired of being hit by Negro Casas so he had to fight back. He has no interest in turning rudo and notes he’s the only star wrestler who stays a half hour to sign autographs after matches. He’s headed to Japan on May 3rd (so no shot of him being added to the 05/03 NJPW card) and hopes to do well.
Sombra talks about his time off; he rehabbed and he went home to visit his classmates. Sombra hopes to be a star of wrestling of the level of Blue Panther, Ultimo Guerrero, Atlantis or Mistico, and then to also wrestle in a Japanesse or American company, but his progress has been faster than he imagined.

Kcidis has a cartoon of new champ Mascara Dorada

Guerreros del Ring #185 has Negro Navarro & Los Trauamas. There’s an interview with Psicosis and Histeria inside.

There’s a masked Mexican in a Burger King ad. Don’t care.

Cesar writes about Blue Demon’s ill thought out attempts at a deal making with CMLL and the higher level of risk running an independent show than CMLL faces running it’s own.

Ohtani’s Jacket checks out the Black Terry/Cerebro Negro/Dr. Cerero vs Negro Navarro/Traumas trios from 03/28/09.

WrestlingObserver has their AAA TV recap.

04/13: Mexico, GDL, Perros

CMLL (SUN) 04/12 Arena Mexico [box y lucha, SuperLucha, Ovaciones, proyeccion luchistica, Cesar]
1) Sombra de Plata & Trueno b Cholo & Semental
2) Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Hooligan b Leono, Metalico, Molotov
3) Hijo del Fantasma, La Mascara, Stuka Jr. b Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca, Shigeo Okumura
4) Marcela b Rosa Negra [mask]
5) Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Ultimo Guerrero b Dos Caras Jr., Maximo, Shocker
6) Negro Casas b Mistico [CMLL WELTER]

Negro took the first with a castia, Mistico did one of his own for the second. In the third, Negro Casas pinned Mistico when Mistico’s second (La Mascara) accidentally distracted the ref, and Negro took Mistico’s mask. The crowd booed Mistico. Stop me if any of this sounds familiar. In the usual mask vs hair mic work after the match, Mistico talked about liking boos, which is a sure way to get the crowd to cheer him.

Dos turned on his partners, of course, and rudos took in straight falls. They seemed to reunite Dos and Lizmark. If I was planning long term here, those two be the next challengers to the tag team titles, so let’s thank god I am meaningless. SuperLuchas did an interview with Maximo this week, and it sounds like he hasn’t decided if he’s leaving or not, but he’d be going to the indies and not AAA if he did.

Rosa Negra vs Marcela reads like a brutal match. Maybe not even in match quality, but in destroying the particpants. Marcela got hurt early on – Rosa moved out of the way of a dive and Marcela hit the stage – and SuperLuchas says she spent most of the match crying. Rosa Negra suffered what is believed to be a major elbow injury in the finishing sequence, and she was put on a stretcher after returning to the locker room, and taken to the hospital. Match still sounds like it’s pretty good, so I hold out hope it’s better than Villano V vs Ultimo Guerrero.

Rosa Negra is Jessica Dayna Hernandez, from Mexico City, 17 years a professional wrestler (and no age given.) The PL link has video (of the MVS video on the big screen) of her unmasking. Obviously, she didn’t stick around for the post match publicity pictures, so it seems everyone just took a picture of her while she was on the stretcher. Remind me never to be a luchaddor.

Molotov’s chin connected hard with the ropes in his match, taking him out of it and requiring seven stitches.

Cesar – who’s new blog looks really interesting – says Tuesday drew over 12,000 and Sunday over 10,000, though these are at Fan Appreciation prices.

CMLL (SUN) 04/12 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [Fuego en El Ring, MT: 4, 5]
1) Leon Blanco & Thunder Boy b Angel del Mal & Infierno [torneo tanque dantes]
2) Palacio Negro & Samurai b Acertijo & Mr. Trueno [torneo tanque dantes]
3) Katana & Malefico b Boomerang & Gallo [torneo tanque dantes]
4) Blue Panther, La Sombra, Mascara Dorada b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Rey Bucanero b Volador Jr.

In the most important wrestling league format tournament to end on April 12 (except maybe this one), the favorites were robbed of victory in the final match. Palacio Negro & Samuari reached 8 points (4 wins, 1 loss) with their win. Boomerang & Gallo need to win to match, but Malefico yanked Gallo’s mask and covered him for the win, the first for his team in the tournament. That wraps up the tournament:

8: Palacio Negro & Samurai
7: Boomerang & Gallo (and Meteoro)
5: Leon Blanco & Thunder Boy
4: Acertijo & Mr. Trueno (and Rey Trueno)
4: Angel del Mal & Infierno
2: Katana & Malefico

Note the top 3 teams are the tecnico pairs. Rudos went 2-7 against tecnicos.

In matches people beside me might care about, Rey got Volador clean in the main event, with mask/hair challenges after. In the semimain, Panther caught Averno with an armbar for the finish and requested a shot at his title. Quick, which title is that?

PERROS (SUN) 04/12 Plaza de Toros, Texcoc [SuperLuchas]
1) Dr. Wagner Jr. b el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Cibernetico

The bit they did here, and on Wednesday in Acapulco, is Cibernetico snapping on Perro Jr. after one too many accidents. It is about time for them to get a new main event feud and Cibernetico vs Perro sounds like it – they’ve already got it on the cover of Luchas 2000 #466.

Pierroth II and Pierroth Jr., talking about their recent benefit show for Pierroth and plans for future ones mention that Pierroth is in motor and language rehab right now.

Al Filo del Ring talks to the original Mascarita Sagrada, La Parkita and Octagoncito about AAA passing their names on to others. All have no problem with the men using the name since them – they’re just working under orders – but are unhappy with AAA trying to pretend they don’t exist and trying to keep them from using the name.

Super Astro thinks cage matches are crap lucha and should stop. I love Super Astro.

WagnerMania covers Dr. Wagner Jr.’s first AAA TV match, noting that AAA held a moment of applause for Abismo Negro before the main event. Mr. Reyes has tons of pictures of the show, from the upcoming Gladiatores report. AAA’s recap of the show omits the Juvi skit and mentions Fabi’s not happy with Aerostar for kissing her.

There’s a odd licensing wrestling situation in Los Mochis. Usually, when licensing comes up, it’s that the wrestlers haven’t bothered to get themselves licensed. Here, the wrestlers want and need to get licensed, and the commission hasn’t gotten around to issuing licenses. Local wrestlers have been prevented from working shows outside Los Mochis because those commissions won’t let them work unlicensed, but their commission is ignoring requests to hand out licenses.

Box Y Lucha 2918 has Dr. Wagner in AAA. The article headlines include two more AAA departures: Picudo, and Espectro de Ultratumba (one and done!). FWIW, “Mascara Divina” is listed as working a Villalobos card. Maybe he’s left AAA too, but it could always be one of her characters misspelled. There’s also a new episode of their TV show.

Ohtani’s Jacket checked out Atlantis, El Hijo del Santo, Tony Salazar vs El Satanico, El Dandy, Espectro Jr. from the mid-80s, and Mascara Dorada, Metro, Valiente vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Virus from this week. Why won’t CMLL just do the Valiente/Virus feud already?

CMLL (WED) 04/15 Arena Coliseo Acapulco [apux @ box y lucha]
1) Fuego Negro, Orca, Pez Tigre vs Black Silver Jr., Capitan Atomo, Hijo de Black Silver
2) El Guerrero vs Histrion [hair]
3) Dark Angel & Marcela vs Amapola & Princesa Blanca

First CMLL lineup I’ve heard in this building – which was a weekly stop at one point – since last November.

04/12: notes

Is it just me (or my cable system), or has Galavision come in awful this weekend? The picture is way too dark, the reds are way too red. Every other channel is normal, so I don’t think it’s my TV.

As promised, Juvuented Guerrera will have a press conference on his situation with AAA. It’s scheduled for Wednesday, location unknown. I don’t figure he’ll have much new to say, but the idea is surely to spread his grievances with AAA beyond the wrestling press.

WagnerMania points to video of Dr. Wagner Sr. vs Dos Caras Sr..

Interviews

– The Gladiatores has an interview with Bobby Lee Jr.
– Al Filo del Ring catches up with the Space Cadets, who read pleasantly humble.
– On the other hand, Canek explains he’ll never do a mask match, because he’ll have everything to lose and nothing to gain.
– El Manana profiles local rudo group La Fraternidad: Violento, Oscuridad, Black Mamba and luchadora Doyma

An article on am.com.mx raves about a local AAA show. The main event? Vipers Revolution vs Super Porky & Alebrije. Not so much AAA right now.

SuperLuchas #310 is heavy on WM coverage.

LuchaWorld has Robert on CMLL 12/15/07, 12/14/07 AAA, KrisZ’s news update.

IWRG (THU) 04/16 Arena Naucalpan
1) Halcon 200 vs Zayco
2) Daga & Eterno vs Chico del Barrio & Comando Negro
3) Diva Salvaje, Miss Gaviota, Sexy Glady vs Avisman, Hijo del Signo, Mixteco Jr.
4) Arlequin & Arlequin Verde vs Hijo de Pierroth (IWRG) & Pierroth II
5) Negro Navarro, Trauma I, Trauma II vs Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro

Back to two shows a week, and back to the Arlquin Verde bit. Main is either going to be a title match or set up one for next week.

IWRG (SUN) 04/19 Arena Naucalpan
1) Guizmo vs Zayco
2) Daga & Eterno vs Chico del Barrio & Vampiro Metalico
3) Trauma I & Trauma II vs Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Arlequin, Arlequin Verde, Toxico DF
5) Angelico, El Alebrije, Super Porky vs Head Hunter I, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Veneno

And apparently back to the Gemelos/Trauma feud.
