04/26: Mexico, Soberano I

Box Y Lucha points out that Friday’s cancellation is Arena Mexico’s third. The one we forgot was after the Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs Cien Caras mask match, where the building had to undergo repairs after that overflow crowd. I presume they just moved it for the duration, as opposed to just not having shows.

There hasn’t been official word from the promotions of cancellations for next week, but since the government is heavily against large groups gathering, they’re not going to happen. I guess we’re more waiting for what, if nay, alternate plans are going to be announced.

CMLL updated it’s GDL’s Sunday lineup, replacing Black Warrior with Dragon Rojo Jr.

Soberano I, the father of Euforia and Hijo del Soberano, passed away Saturday morning in Torreon. He was 60 years and was a long time Laguna area wrestler who also worked in Texas for a stretch.

There’s talk of creating a museum of lucha libre in Mexico City. Lots of pieces have been collected, but they’re still looking for the money to do it.

Dr. Wagner Jr. talks up his feud with Cibernetico & Perro for the record show. He’d like a hair vs mask match with Perro. It’s good to want things.

Cesar reviews: Arkangel, Angel Azteca Jr., Apocalpsis.

Veneno’s blog has photos of Veneno in Merida.

In Leon, the local wrestlers who’ve worked AAA shows there are complaining about not getting paid.

MIA: Anyone seen Hijo de Faraon? Hasn’t been on a card since the Feb 18 show in SLP.

05/02 AAA TV Lineup (Lucha Libre Expo)

This is for historical purposes only, I think.

AAA (MON) 05/04 Centro Banamex [AAA]
1) Aerostar, Laredo Kid, Super Fly vs Rio Bravo, Tigre Cota, Tito Santana II
2) Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs Jack Evans & Teddy Hart
3) ? & Vampiro vs Chessman & Extreme Tiger
4) Alex Koslov, Rocky Romero, X-Pac vs Kenzo Suzuki, Silver King, Zorro
5) ?, Charly Manson, Mesias vs Electro Shock, Konnan, Ozz

We’ve actually had this lineup since the first of this month. It’s only been confirmed as a TV taping – but then they said last year’s show here was a TV taping and it never turned up (at least on the usual broadcast), so I had my doubts until I read the article linked a couple paragraphs below.

Doesn’t really matter. The Expo is expected to either be announced as postponed or canceled sometime today. This taping won’t be happening, at least not on this date. Which is too bad, because Konnan (and Jack) wrestling in a high profile DF show would’ve pushed some issues to resolution.

In Record, Joaquin Roldan hypes up a AAA vs Legion cage match for TripleMania. That match hasn’t been announced yet on TV, so it’s amusing they’d be giving interviews about it, but that’s normal here. Roldan also mentions all the TV tapings leading up to TripleMania:

– Aguacalientes (04/30)
– Centro Banamex (05/02)
– Leon
– Tlaxcala
– Guerrero
– Hidalgo

Working thru the weeks, that means TripleMania is (or was) scheduled to start airing on 06/28 in Mexico, and 07/18 in the US, 2 and 5 weeks after it’s taped. That may be changed with this taping being removed. They could do this week as a filler one, they could still air this if the Expo is just pushed back a week, or they could just move on to the Leon taping if it’s on May 4th or May 11th (assuming the usual Monday show there.)
