02/21: Mexico, Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 02/20 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, ESTO]

5) AvernoTexano Jr.Villano V b Blue PantherMaximoUltimo Guerrero
6) AtlantisMr. NieblaRey Bucanero b Hector GarzaMarco COrleoneMistico

Atlantis pulled Mistico’s mask and covered him for the main event win.

Villano V and UG were pulling off each other’s masks – Ovacones has a picture of Ultimo Guerrero’s face, but it’s digitized. UG got DQed in the first fall for yanking V5’s mask, V5 got UG clean in the second fall.

There did turn out to be six matches after all.

CMLL (TUE) 02/24 Arena Mexico
1) Angel Azteca Jr. & Sombra de Plata vs Camorra & Zayco
2) ElectricoPequeño OlímpicoShockercito vs Pequeño Damian 666Pequeño ViolenciaSombrita
3) Lady ApacheMarcelaSahori vs Princesa BlancaPrincesa SujeiRosa Negra
4) Hector GarzaHijo del FantasmaToscano vs EphestoMisterioso IITerrible
5) Shocker vs Ultimo Guerrero

Sombrita hasn’t been here in a long time, not since the lightweight tournament. Guess they needed fill ins with people out. I presume the main event is the same deal – if Shocker beats Ultimo Guerrero, he gets a title shot at some point down the road.

CMLL (FRI) 02/27 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro & Angel de Plata vs Caligula & Messala
2) Mascarita DoradaNino de AceroPequeno Ninja vs Pequeno Universo 2000Pequeno WarriorPierrothito

5) Black WarriorBlue PantherUltimo Guerrero vs AvernoMephistoVillano V

Lots of rematches, not much new. Rey Cometa/Artillero should be fun.

Maybe more news later.

  1. A good weeks lineups for mini’s and not much else.

Good to see Virus go over Dorada last night.

Also good to see the Angels back down to the opener after it looked like they were being pushed. They haven’t looked impressive at all – just another couple of deathly dull, reasonably athletic “new-CMLL” novatos.

  2. Yeah the live report I read said Dorada blew a lot of spots so I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he fucked up and Virus told him to not even bother getting back in the ring.

Someone on the ByL forum says Shockercito is also jumping to the PdM promotion so we’ll see if he shows on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s show looks terribly weak. I’ll tune in just to see the mini’s. I guess Sombrita is allowed to be a regular now that Aguilita/Halloweencito are gone. Are they building anything with the women in these terceras? I haven’t been paying attention.

Friday looks average. Cometa/Artillero should definitely be fun if more than 2 minutes airs. I still think there is something wrong if CMLL wants us to take La Juaria seriously as main eventers and then we get matches like this where they are third from the top facing midcarders.

As for Los Angeles Celestiales… I think you’re being too rough Henrik. They are both rookies who we really shouldn’t be seeing on television yet anyhow. We’re just lucky CMLL has so much TV avaiable. It’d be like watching 1997/1998 matches with Sangre Azteca, Fugaz, Sombra De Plata and Flecha. I’m sure they weren’t tearing it up like they were from late 1999 – 2002. It’s completely unfair to write two rookies off already after seeing them in 4 or 5 matches in the span of two weeks. I’m happy they are back in the openers where they belong and working with Caligula/Messala will only help them. Dom’t forget all their recent matches were against Los Guerreros Tuereg who aren’t exactly the best catchers around and half the group are angry veterans who won’t do you any favors if you blow spots during a match. (see: Arkangel, Hooligan, Dr. X)

Flash is teaming with them on TV now and they could just as easily look fantastic and you’ll be crying when they don’t make TV again for 6 months.:) Or they could suck but within 6 months be providing the best photos for cmll.com and you’ll be angry they aren’t on TV. Just give it time.

Mistico vs Atlantis in September anyone?

  3. *shrug* Usually is, isn’t it?

Looks like they’re sticking to the format of airing the segunda and top two.

I’m betting they stick with this format until in two weeks the segunda is Mascarita Dorada/Tzuki/Bam Bam vs Pequeno Damian/Pequeno Warrior/Pierrothito and then they choose to air a tercera with Maximo, Mictlan and La Mascara vs Euforia, Nosferatu and Skandalo.:)

  4. Wow, Puebla must have a REALLY WEAK lineup this Monday if they advertising Poder Mexica in the main event and women in the semi-main.

  5. Sarah Stock should’ve done a good-bye tour.

So I guess they are taping for 52mx while Riana interviews fans and shows the sketch artist, then go back for the top two matches. And the stuff with the fans is not that bad(you should see kiss cam at WWE), as CMLL has some young hip looking fans, but they need to get some feuds going with decent promos too.

  6. WTF? All the mini’s just did a promo for March 6th @ Arena Puebla! They’re doing another cage match with all the mini’s defending their masks.

  7. @LLL: I’m with you there. I even think Maximo will be involved to be a decoy as everyone will think he’s losing his hair so CMLL can cheap-out of a big mask loss.

  8. John Cena leads Mesias by just a few points? Televisa is embarrassing both AAA and CMLL with this stuff.

  9. @Rob:
First impressions count, and i don’t like sitting on the fence. I can tell they’ll go on to bore me. Same goes for Hijo del Faraon, and probably most rookies coming through CMLL’s excuse for a lucha libre school in the future if they keep going the way they are.

Oro may be reasonably athletic but you can see both of them have been so well conditioned into the “New-CMLL” style of working sequences and signature spots rather than lucha libre matches. Their matches are horribly repetitive and they just don’t hold any interest at all. Gimme the Groupo Cibernetico guys over Gen75 anyday :)

I hope this minis mask match has some unknown local thrown in to take the fall.

  10. @Rob:
    I know :(

But we did wonder a while back if there was some deal to always get locals on TV every week, so we’ll find out if that’s true, and if it is, we’ll get to see a fun, or at least fresh, match :)

  11. That’s a good point. I didn’t realize that was the only match with locals since there are usually at least two. Tigre Rojo filled in for Dos Jr. but I guess that doesn’t count.

Also the women tend to get edited out a lot on Puebla TV.;)

  12. Two mini’s matches on FSE? (assuming the Lightning Match aired)

Not bad C3 opener although the Guerreros Tuereg continue to disapoint.

  13. Yep two mini’s matches. Dos/Ultimo wasn’t that bad either. Bam Bam did 2 dives in about 5 minutes. Including a Asai Moonsalt into the crowd.

  14. @Rob:
Nope, different one, probably the following week (4/13?). Still no opener though, the women were first.

I think we can safely say that Sombra/Nova V Pol/Vaq was an anomoly and my short lived interest in this show is well and truly finished :(

  15. Yeah that sounds like 4/13. At least it’s going fast as on 4/27 there were only 4 matches and the opener looks good so it has a shot of airing.

  16. Basically VEO is a raw footage show, with all action. You don’t even see the commentators, or one backstage promo.

I wonder if Fredo is going to the loaded FMLL show in LA today?

  17. Okay – who do we beg to get the Coliseo segunda next week to make TV? Mini’s match but tecnicos vs tecnicos! I WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT! Even if it’s a cluster I gotta see it.

  18. Just watched the Garza/Guerrero match from Puebla, and I though it was very enjoyable. The end of the second fall was great with Guerrero taking advantage of the Kozlov hand and shirt removal for a rollup with Garza’s shirt over his head. Hopefully the other rudos will learn from this. I though the third fall was fun and an all around good match. Going to try to catch the rest of the show tomorrow, but not sure I missed much from the lineup.

  19. Bad news Henrik… ByL board says the women aired on Puebla TV so unless one of the top matches got edited out no Guerrilleros will make TV.
