01/21: Mexico, NWA Mexico

CMLL (TUE) 01/20 Arena Mexico [ESTO]
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Molotov b Carrona & Cholo
2) Astro Boy, Metálico, Sensei b Calígula, Hooligan, Méssala
3) Máscara Púrpura, Máximo, Mictlán DQ Euforia, Nosferatu, Skandalo
4) Black Warrior, Dragon Rojo Jr., Sangre Azteca b La Máscara, La Sombra, Sagrado
5) Blue Panther, Mark Corleone, Místico b Averno, Mephisto, Villano III

Carrona and Cholo won! EDIT: CMLL.com says no. SIGH.

Misitca on Averno, Marco plancha on Mephisto for the main event win. Poder Mexica keeps on winning here. Euforia punted Maximo for the DQ.

CMLL announced last night that Arena Coliseo Guadalajara will have an 11 women’s cage match, much like the recent Minis Hora Cero. The participants here are Dark Angel, Marcela, Lady Apache, Princesa Blanca, Goddess, Medussa, La Nazi, Sahori, Hiroka and Mima Shimoda. No date announced, but it’s clearly the next fan appreciation show (02/01?) After you skip the first 4, everyone stands a decent shot. This probably will be the first women’s match to headline a show (they’ve got set up the cage), but still not yet in Mexico City.

CMLL (TUE) 01/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [MT]
7) Héctor Garza, Toscano, Volador Jr. DQ Felino, Negro Casas, Último Guerrero

Ultimo tossed Hector behind him and fouled him on the way down. Recap thinks UG could’ve won it clean.

Today’s Ovaciones has an interview with Poder Mexica, who want to win some belts. Warrior is looking at the CMLL Trios titles, Sangre is looking to move to middleweight and wants Dragon Rojo to take on the welterweights. In that line of thinking, Dragon Rojo says he’s done with Mictlan and wants Sombra next.

Ovaciones also mentioned that the 01/31 AAA taping in Mexico State will have Ozz vs Chessman on the card.

NWA MEXICO (WED) 02/04 Xalapa [Arena Xalapa]
1) Pitufo vs Totem
2) Full Contac, Samuray, Tigre Cosmico vs Crazy Man, Eslabon, GMC
3) Black Spider & Pendulo vs Caballero de la Noche & Fantastik
4) Blue Demon Jr. & Huracan Ramriez Jr. vs El Dandy & Scorpio Jr.

No arena mentioned. It might be Arena Xalapa.

The promoter of the indy shows at Arena Neza teased in Reforma that the 01/30 show with Demon/Santo vs Perro/Wagner could set up a Santo/Perro mask/hair match on 02/13. Well, everything is possible. The bigger story is the schedule here is a big indy show every two weeks.

Kcidis notes, for all Konnan’s talk about getting rid of the clowns in AAA, the Psycho Cirucs seem to be doing pretty well.

Box Y Lucha 2906 has Charly’s not jump on the cover.

SuperLuchas is selling Axxel masks.

Ohtani’s Jacket watched Sangre Chicana vs Villano III.

  1. I’m reading the latest WON, which always cracks me up when they dwell on 7,000 attendance for CMLL being poor, but somehow 500-1,000 showing up for an ROH show is amazing (which it is for an indy, but still funny to read).

However, I’m curious to know if anyone knows about the AAA videogame since I haven’t heard about it until I read it in WON. I can’t recall it being mentioned in Noti-AAA or on their website.

  2. I looked it up and didn’t find anything, but I hardly doubt the game would use the “AAA” acronym to sell. I’m guessing if there was a game, they’d use one of their big event names, like “Triplemania…The Video Game”.

Its funny that with all the info in this week’s WON, that was what peaked my interest most.:)

  3. It sucks that more people don’t rally behind the best flyers in Mexico with these WON awards. I mean Mistico and Valiente out of all the great flyers in Mexico get the most votes. Sombra and Aerostar should have been on the radar.People need to stop voting Kenta and Marifuji in these awards. These guys barely Fly anymore.

  4. I doubt a lot of lucha fans voted for the WON awards this year or in the past few years. I voted a few times in the past, but it was the old snail mail way and it took awhile to get around to doing it.

Meltzer himself doesn’t keep up with lucha like he use to, besides watching clips and that has an effect on his readers (at least the ones who’ll only watch stuff that’s recommended to them by Meltzer).

  5. Fredo summed it up perfectly. If you go back to when Dave was really into Lucha, the awards had a ton of representatives from Mexico. Suddenly Dave stops talking about what goes on down south starting in 1997 and you see barely any Mexicans being represented. A lot of sheep must subscribe to the WON.

The full 1/31 AAA TV lineup is hiding in the new Box y Lucha lineups. I find positioning on that card to be very weird but what do I know?

  6. Valiente getting votes for best flyer is also funny since he really isn’t a great flyer… forget the best. He has some spectacular spots but if you want to talk about consistency you can’t even debate him being on the list b/c he does so much dangerous stuff that he’s bound to screw it up once in a while. The voters probably saw his big dives and gave him a few sympathy votes not even realizing there was a best move category which he should have easily won. I don’t even dare ask what the move of the year was…

  7. The good thing about Video games is that you get the money upfront. TNA got money from Midway despite game sales.

  8. I think Rivera has mentioned the videogame thing, but I’m not sure. I would buy the rights for some Japanese game, edit the wrestlers, insert some AAA cartoon movie for FMV sequences and call it a game, but a byl guy said he knows someone in the project and according to that person, they’re building the game from the ground up and had to cut it to 25 characters to beat the deadline (but no date was said)

  9. @Rob: Dave says Nintendo DS on “04/30”, which is close enough that there should be something about it by now. 04/30 is also not a Tuesday, so that’s “end of April” estimate and not a firm date. “Playstation”, “XBox” and Wii in October. I don’t assume which model, because this would seem ripe for a bargain PS2 release.

  10. @Rob: re: WON awards – I’m trying to see if I can mentally trick SuperLuchas into posting about the awards so I can link to them and don’t have to write anything.

  11. WON said Paco did a rare interview, and highlighted the points Paco made about Wagner, Perro, etc… Does anyone know where this interview was published?

  12. @LLL: I think its an old interview from early December. I checked KrisZ’s news updates that I have and he mentioned the Paco interview about that in his 12/6/08 Lucha Report. Here’s his report:

    http://www.luchaworld.com/?p=614

I’m thinking the original source was Box y Lucha, but I can’t find anything on their site.

  13. Dave printed that up days after I posted it and then reprinted it this week. Looks like an accident to me.

  14. They ought to run biweekly bodybuilding shows, so that you could have biweekly Paco’s interviews
