01/10: IWRG, Neza, Mexico, lineups

IWRG (THU) 01/01 Arena Naucalpan [the gladiatores]
1) Trauma II b Imperio Azteca
2) Oficial AK-47 & Trauma I b Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II
3) Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro, Toxico AAA b Chico Che, Trauma II, Zatura
4) Dr. Cerebro L Pirata Morgan Jr., Veneno, Capitán Muerte, Nemesis (IWRG), King Drako [cage, semifinal]
5) Cerebro Negro L Barba Roja, Multifacético, Tetsuya, Pendulo, Jack [cage, semifinal]
6) Dr. Cerebro b Cerebro Negro [cage, hair, final]

Both the Pirates edged out both the Cerebros in the cage matches. The Cerebros did not turn on each other, instead talking before their match about how good friends they were and how much respect for each other, even each guy offering to shave their head to save the other and not do the match (or to do a double hair/double mask match with the Pirates.) The commission made them do the match, and Dr. Cerebro beat his partner. The Gladiatores recap says the crowd was quiet for all of this – they chalk it up to the fans not realizing the situation. IWRG seems to be setting up a Cerebros vs Pirates match. Probably a title match before they’re down, if only the Pirates had a third man in IWRG…

Trauma II, as a rudo, started the show replacing Shuriken in the opener. Oficial AK47 replaced Trauma II in the second match and teamed fine with Trauma I (including fouling the tecnicos for the win), but then Trauma II came back out to fill on for Freelance in the tercera as a tecnico, fighting the Oficials and Toxico (in for AK47). Confusing!

This appeared to annoy the Oficials as well, as they beat up Trauma II after their win. Trauma I ran out for the save, but was neutralized by Oficial AK47, and the referees had to break up both sides. Looks like a feud between the two units, though it’s not clear if the Traumas are meant to be tecnicos.

Perros (THU) 01/01 Arena Neza [the gladiatores]
1) Fuerza Roja & Moto Cross DRAW Dragon Xtream & Rey Neza
2) La Parkita & Mascarita de Oro b Espectrito de Ultratumba I & Espectrito de Ultratumba II
3) Black Thunder, Hermano Muerte II, Hermano Muerte III b Black Spirit, Carta Brava, XXX
4) Damián 666, Scorpio Jr., Zumbido b Villano III, Villano IV, Villano V
5) Cocolores b Chacmol [hair]
6) Dr. Wagner Jr. & Super Crazy DQ Cibernetico & el Hijo del Perro Aguayo

Continuing the apparent Perros-related main events policy of “Everyone Has Fun, No One Gets A Pin”, Perro yanked Wagner’s mask. Full house.

Al Filo del Ring has quotes from Super Raton and Espantapajaros after 1/1 mask match.

CMLL NGW (THU) 01/08 Durango [Canal10]
2) La Máscara & Volador Jr. b Negro Casas & Rambo
3) La Sombra & Místico b Averno & Mephisto

CMLL (FRI) 01/09 Arena Mexico [Alan, Ovaciones, ESTO, superluchas]
1) Molotov & Starman DQ Inquisidor & Pólvora
2) Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra b Lady Apache, Marcela, Princesa Blanca
3) Euforia b Stuka Jr. [lightning]
4) Felino, Shigeo Okumura, Virus b Mascara Dorada, Máscara Púrpura, Valiente
5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara b Heavy Metal, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. b Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Volador & Sombra beat the tag champs despite the rudos destroying their gear. They want a tag team title shot, which a pretty good idea (unless you’re Averno & Mephisto) and will get one next week.

Last time a rudo won a lightning match was when Vampiro beat Black Warrior in March of 2005. Though I don’t suppose that counts. So, Sangre Azteca on July 16, 2004. It’s been a while.

Virus snuck in a foul on Purpura. Blanca turned on her teammates in two falls and may finally be a ruda. Lady Apache replaced Lluvia in that match, so she’s still undefeated! Starman got his mask yanked in the open.

Ovaciones also includes a Damian 666 promoting the Perro-involved 01/30 show in SLP. Damian says his appearance on the AAA TJ show does not mean he’s leaving this group. He explains the Perros weren’t on many show lately because they were taking the holidays off.

Arturo Rivera has another column (catching up!) talks about Rellik’s mySpace post, makes vague statements about people going from CMLL to AAA, and evaluating the other announcers.

There’s also stories about Pantera Sureno and Lady Metal teaming up to form Penteras Metalicas and Juvi’s first training seminar (01/31 at the El Cuadrilatero, where he and Fuerza will have a old school/new school debate.)

I missed this yesterday, but Ovaciones posted a note saying CMLL doesn’t know if Dos Caras Jr. is going to WWE. No one knows, but my current estimate is:

45% returns to CMLL
40% goes to WWE
15% goes to AAA or some place else

Fancy way of saying ‘I dunno’.

El Universal interviews the “12” minis cage match. This was from the photoshoot which Tzuki missed, so I think that’s why he’s not counted. Quick sum-up of interesting comments
* Pequeno Ninja: big fan of Dorada so hopes to fight him at the end
* Mini Olimpico & Fantasy: everyone’s on their own, no friends
* Cosmico (listed as 22 years old): wants to stay till the end to win a mask
* Nino de Acero & Shockercito: getting out of the cage ASAP
* Mini Warrior: wants Olimpico or Dorado’s mask

An outdoor show at a fair is not unusual, except if it’s in Colombia.

Abismo Negro is on the cover of Dos de Tres.

Wagnermania posted video of the Copa el Toreo tournament from Arena Lopez Mateos.

Finally, a date. Card subject to change.

30 thoughts to “01/10: IWRG, Neza, Mexico, lineups”

  1. Man, that tag title match is gonna be great! :D

On the other hand, Tuesdays televised segunda is so disappointing. The one week from 4 or 5 when they actually go with the undercarders, and they book that shit. And of course, you know there’s no chance of an opener airing if it’s Pegasso/Cometa. And considering how mailed in Tuesday tecera and semi’s are, that is one show to give a misss.

  2. It would appear CMLL TV isn’t airing today. Depending on who you believe it’s either airing at 3:00pm tomorrow or 9:00pm tomorrow. Either way it’s ridiculous that CMLL doesn’t even know themselves and haven’t put up a notice on their website that gets updated all weekend.

Mixed bag for Tuesday next week. Depends on how much is mailed in I guess. Puebla looks better.:P

Friday’s main event could be killer. Has it become new CMLL policy to run a tag title program every winter?

    2004: Parka/Shocker vs Bucanero/Guerrero
    2005: Atlantis/Panther vs Bucanero/Olimpico
    2006: Mistico/Warrior vs Averno/Mephisto
    2007: skipped
    2008: Tournament for belts

So Mistico is in the semi-main of two straight Arena Mexico shows. Wonder if that has ever happened?

Eagerly awaiting the Pequeno Reyes Del Aire!

  3. @Rob: Did I forget to mention I added card position to the match finder one day? I needed it for something so I figured it out. Some day, I’ll need all wrestlers to start with their first noun (no el’s or Hijo’s) and that’ll be finally fixed.

Anyway: last time would be the April/May trios tournament. If we skip tournaments, it goes back to April of 2007.

  4. So who do we think Angel De Plata is? Somebody in a new gimmick, or a rookie striaght out of training shcool?

    Any pics?

  5. @Henrik: He made an appearence on Puebla TV (his only appearence AFAIK) and looked like a rookie. Very lanky guy who seemed clumsy and afraid to try anything too wild. Almost came up short on a tope suicida during a double dive spot.

Now they just need an Angel De Bronce.

  6. @Henrik: Very disapointing. It was worked really slow which could have been fun but if you work a slow match you want it to lead somewhere and this didn’t. It was just slow to take up time b/c the last minute of each fall just turned into a regular CMLL match so it’s like “fuck what we just did for 25 minutes”. Especially when Mistico’s shoulder was worked on the entire match and then he stopped selling it just to hit his big moves and the finish. I’m not a huge psychology guy but something like that bothers me. Quietest I’ve ever heard a crowd for a Mistico singles match.

  7. Pretty cool. But sucks that they never air when it’s Los Romanos, Guillereros, Pol/Vaq, Pegasso/Cometa :(

  8. @Henrik: Meh, you can’t look at it that way. All four of these guys seem good so it’s just nice to see them instead of the Trueno, Loco Max, Dr. X, etc. crap. In fact you can go on wrong and quote this: Within 1 year you’ll be BEGGING to see Semental on TV. He’s gonna be a star if they let him.

  9. Not a bad match. Can’t believe Azteca Jr./Semental tried that spot. Seems way too hard to pull off. Then poor Semental got killed on that rana to the floor. Angel De Oro seemed to be limping after his dive so I guess that’s why he didn’t do much. But his finisher is fun.

    PEQUENO REYES DEL AIRE~!

  10. Pequeno Reyes Del Aire couldn’t even compare to the greatness of last year. I knew it’d be like that when they announced the lineup but I thought it’d at least be SORTA good. Not so. Only went about 15 minutes (it got edited…) and for a Pequeno “Reyes Del Aire” match there were only like six dives. How do you do something like this without dives from Dragoncito, Pequeno Ninja and any of the rudos except for Aguilita? And how does Bam Bam who averages 3 dives a match in a normal six man tag only get in one dive? And how does Bam Bam get eliminated second? The only memorable spot from the match was Dorada showing off his new crazy satellite headscissors variation on Pequeno Damian and following it up with a batshit springboard rana into the aisleway. The finish was really awkward with Warrior getting about five nearfalls on Mascarita but sooooooooooooooooooo slowly b/c the ref kept looking out at the floor for some reason. I guess he forgot his cue to be distracted wasn’t till after the nearfalls.

Very disapointing. The two Torneos from September in the tournament to crowd a National Lightweight champ were more “Reyes Del Aire”-esque than this match was!

It still boils down to the awful lineup. There were three guys in this match that didn’t belong anywhere near a Reyes Del Aire. Pequeno Violencia, Nino De Acero (just based on name value) and Pequeno Halloween (already have enough bases). Meanwhile there were three guys not involved that should have been: Tzuki, Shockercito and Cosmico. I mean jesus… if we’re having a HIGH FLYING MATCH – why aren’t we using HIGH FLYERS?

  11. The Cibernetico wasn’t so hot.

In fact, that won’t be the real Reyes Del Aire – that was just your typical b-show torneo. They’ll run a real one on a Friday show later in the year.

  12. You think? I thought Dragoncito got counted out. Yep, in a REYES DEL AIRE MATCH – A COUNTOUT!

    Either way…

“They’ll run a real one on a Friday show later in the year.”

God I pray you’re right. The minis deserve a better showing than this.

  13. BTW, for those interested – CMLL TV is set to air at 3pm Mexico time tomorrow with AAA to follow so it’ll be 4 straight hours of wrestling or 2 for those with taste.

  14. @Rob: Don’t know if this is how it will actually air, but the Cablevision guide is listing each show at an hour and a half.

  15. @Alan: Well fingers crossed CMLL still manages to fit three matches in. They can do it since the matches take up only 30 minutes of the show but I don’t trust them to just only air two and a million pointless segments.

  16. Feed is up and they are airing the top two from Arena Mexico + the Mistico/Averno trios from NJPW.

  17. I wonder if CBS would keep showing that shot of those masked Pittsburgh Steeler fans if they realized one of them was Septiembre Negro. (I’m thinking no.)

  18. Giants cost me money.:(

CMLL TV is really pushing the cage match for tonight so maybe the TV switch will turn out good for them as people will finish watching and then head over to the show.
