2) Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra
3) Stuka Jr. vs Euforia [lightning]
4) Mascara Dorada, Máscara Púrpura, Valiente vs Felino, Shigeo Okumura, Virus

6) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto

Previews: ESTO, Ovaciones

As noted earlier in the week, the top three matches are filled with young tecnico flyers (and Hector Garza, who used to be one.) There’s no minis on this show, which makes this sort of the lesser show of the week; no event as big as the Pequeno Reyes del Aire and the cage match, but the main event is iteration of the eternal rivalry. Rudos are vowing to burn Mistico alive tonight, so that should be fun.

Finally, an answer on Damian’s AAA appearance. A column on the AAA website says, after Rellik no-showed, the Tijuana commission demanded AAA replace him with a star of equal or greater value, so they couldn’t just repeat someone or use a random local guy. Using Damian was the only way not to be fined. Article also mentions Mini Charly Manson had surgery on his nose.

Also on their website: a Chessman wound, talking about how they’re mentioned on wikipedia. AAA really needs to start doing stuff so these guys have something actually worthwhile to talk about.

SoloLuchas interviews IWRG/NWA-Mexico wrestler Eragon.

(El Sol de Hidalgo) A prison held a lucha libre show for a family day. Can’t remember if this was the same prison which did this last year, not as mnay details this time.

DTU has photos from their 01/06 free show.

WagnerMania links to YouTube videos of famous mask losses and top Dr. Wagner Jr. moves.

Over on LuchaWorld, Robert watches the big December 06 CMLL Monterrey show and AAA from June 10, 2007, and KrisZ has his news update.

Ohtani’s Jacket watches Santo, Octagon, Rey Jr., Parka vs Panther, Fuerza, Pentagon, Psicosis from June of 1995.

  1. Rob has convinced me that they will kill of the Olimpico character and he will lose the cage match. I’d guess Dorada takes his mask since he is currently has no title and didn’t win Pequeno Reyes Del Aire earlier this week

I’m heading to Arena Mexico for the show tonight, so I’ll try to post quick results at least when I get home. Should be interesting to see what attendance is like since this is the most expensive show of the week even when it is probably the least attractive card for most fans. I’ll go out on a limb and predict that noone gets burned alive.

  2. If they kill the Olympico character, why didn’t they kill the Violencia character years ago? I think the mini is still around in CMLL. I’m still going with Dragoncito but Mini Olympico wouldn’t surprise me either.

  3. “Rudos are vowing to burn Mistico alive tonight, so that should be fun.”

Damn, that’s some hate for your ass right there.

Saw the video for Mistico and Averno in Japan, they looked great and the crowd was really into Rey Mister, uh, Mistico.

  4. It would be funny if Mascarita Dorada lost his b/c he’s embarrassed by his bigger version.

  5. I really have no idea. It could be any one of nearly half of them and it wouldn’t surprise me.

I don’t doubt that Olimpico might be the favourite and can definitely see him losing – but i don’t buy the reason that it’s to get rid of the gimmick because the full size Olimpico is gone – as mentioned above, if that was how CMLL done things, Violencia and Shockercito would have been repackaged long ago. If it is Olimpico, i’d say it will more likely be because he’s been lost in the shuffle in amongst the more spectacular gimmicks, and has generally just gone stale.

Of those who i think may be a dark horse, i wouldn’t be surprised at all if it was Pierrotito. He’s been around for ages, his mask means a bit, and his gimmick isn’t going to be affected by losing the mask – particularly considering kids probably don’t even remember Pierroths mask (and for half his career, Pierrotito hasn’t even wore the yellow/black mask like Pierroth) I’m also thinking that for a kids show with the main event spot in the card, they might want a tecnico win to send the kids home happy. What better way to end a kids show than seeing Tzuki taking his arch rivals mask? :D

But the thing about it is, we’re all trying to think of logical, gimmick based reasons for who will lose – but in reality, there’s as much chance the loser will be guy who has fallen upon hard times in the real world and needs the money, as much as it will be for any lucha reasons, bosses wanting rid of gimmicks etc.

I’m trying to avoid thinking of it maybe being Dragoncito or Tzuki, and i can’t even choose one, so i’ll pussy out of it and say either Olimpico or Shockercito. :)

  6. 1) Molotov & Starman vs Inquisidor & Pólvora-Molotov & Starman win by DQ in the third fall when one of them has their mask ripped off.
    2) Lluvia, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Princesa Sujei, Rosa Negra-Rudas win when the tecnicas can’t get along again. Match only went two falls.
    3) Stuka Jr. vs Euforia [lightning]-Euforia wins in a decent match.
    4) Mascara Dorada, Máscara Púrpura, Valiente vs Felino, Shigeo Okumura, Virus-Rudos win. Surprisingly few high spots for the tecnicos.
    5) Héctor Garza, Hijo del Fantasma, La Máscara vs Heavy Metal, Terrible, Texano Jr.-Tecnicos win. Nothing much of note in this.
    6) La Sombra, Místico, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto-Tecnicos win. Tecnicos take first fall with Sambra and Volador pinning Averno and Mephisto after an Ephesto dive on Mistico. Rudos take the second with Averno and Mephisto over Sobra and Tecnico after a Mistico dive on Ephesto. Tecnicos take the third fall with Sambra and Volador pinning Averno and Mephisto. The third fall also saw both Sambra and Voladors masks being torn as well as their pants being torn off. Not sure why that was necessary. Mistico wasn’t involved in any of the decisions which seemed odd until Sombra and Volador made a challenge for the tag titles. After Averno declined, Mistico made the challenge for them. They were still turned down, but ripped Avernos mask off. It’ll be interesting to see if this actually goes anywhere.

I would say Arena Mexico was a little over a third full. Not too surprising given the other shows this week. The crowd was much more pro-tecnicos than normal.
