12/13: Mexico results, CMLL plans change, GDL Festival

CMLL (FRI) 12/12 Arena Mexico [superluchas, ESTO, Ovaciones, SoloLucha]
1) Inquisidor & Pólvora b Sombra de Plata & Starman
2) Dark Angel, Lady Apache, Lluvia b Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
3) Terrible b Marco Corleone, Texano Jr., Dos Caras Jr., Atlantis, Mr. Niebla, Shocker, Blue Panther, Rey Bucanero, Toscano, Villano V, Sagrado, Misterioso II, Valiente, Ephesto, Máximo [LdA]
4) Místico DQ Último Guerrero

Main event was a near 20 minute match. UG took the first, Mistico took the second, and the third ended by DQ when Mistico dived towards Ultimo, but Ultimo grabbed Tony The Cartoonist’s canvas and smached with Mistico with it on the way down. SuperLucha has the first fall over in about 3 minutes, which ESTO lists as “less than five minutes.”

People voted for 11 different people to win the Leyenda de Azul. Terrible got no voes and won. Order of elimination is listed above, with Villano V replacing Lizmark. Story of the match was the three Hijos de Averno working together. When it was down to Dos/Marco and Terrible/Texano, the two rudos took out Dos together. Texano got pinned next, but he and Ephesto stayed around ringside to distract Corleone into being fouled by Terrible. SuperLuchas has the match at 36 minutes, I think.

SoloLuchas says attendance was up, but it doesn’t look good from the shot of Mistico and Ultimo Guerrero. They both could be right.

Ovaciones reportes CMLL has changed their minds and will continue to run Arena Mexico Tuesday and Friday for the rest of the year. CMLL is thinking of running big shows on 12/23 and 12/30 (Fridays) and may announce them well in advance, plus Tuesday January 6 will be another fan appreciation day.

I thought IWRG was supposed to be done this week as well, but there’s a mention of them running a 10 man cage match next Sunday with Scorpio Jr., Fuerza Guerrera, Arlequin, Pierroth II, Multifacetico, Zumbido, Cerbero Negro, Tetsuy and Mascara Ano 2000.

Lots of articles on the first day of the Guadalajara Lucha Libre expo
– Local papers Informador, milenio and La Jornada covered the show, as well as a local reporter for MT who filed three different articles: the AAA undercard, on the main event, and on those being honored and what’s to come the next two days.

Milenio says 3000 people showed up for the wrestling portion of the show. It sounds like attendance was not as expected; the show was delayed 30-40 minutes as they waited for “enough” people to move to the bleachers to start the show, and the Milenio article mentioned ticket giveaways. The MT report has a good photo of the setup. Having this outdoors in December did not help, with a lot pointing out how cold it was while watching the events.

AAA (FRI) 12/12 Guadalajara Lucha Libre Festival
5) La Parka Jr., Mesias, Octagón b Jack Evans, Konnan, Teddy Hart

Main event was supposed to be Parka/Octagon vs Mesias/Konnan, but Mesias and Konnan refused to get along based off current storylines and they turned it into a trios. The other matches sound like they happened as scheduled, just no results reported.

The MT article says the idea was great but the execution was horrible. A complete lack of security put the wrestlers in danger. The semimain guys were pelted with drinks for the bleachers. (There were announcements to stop it, but no one actually forcing them too.) After the main event, the crowd jumped the barricade to get close to the tecnicos, who had to fight thru the crowd to get to the back. AAA wrestlers were angry enough to blow off the press after the show.

WagnerMania has video and pictures of the booths and other parts of the show not relating to the AAA show.

SuperLuchas has the first round results of the Latin American tournament in Peru.

News American has an article on San Jose lucha promotion >Pro Wrestling Revolution and includes this line:

According to American wrestler “Strongman” Jon Andersen, Pro Wrestling Revolution is the most successful wrestling promoter in the United States.

CMLL (TUE) 12/16 Arena Mexico
1) Angel de Oro & Tigre Blanco vs Camorra & Inquisidor
2) Pegasso, Rey Cometa, Stuka Jr. vs Arkangel de la Muerte, Nitro, Skandalo
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Mascara Dorada, Valiente vs Ohara, Shigeo Okumura, Virus
4) Sangre Azteca vs Dragon Rojo Jr. [MEX WELTER]
5) Blue Panther, Dos Caras Jr., Shocker vs Black Warrior, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas

2009 came early! I suspect this is the beginning of a long series between the ex-Air Force and the Tuareg. Between Cometa and Pegasso making the card and Ohara being back on a proper CMLL show for the first time in a long while (the Leyenda de Plata tournament), I think people are already headed off for vacation.

CMLL (FRI) 12/19 Arena Mexico
1) Ángel Azteca Jr. & Angel de Oro vs Calígula & Méssala
2) India Sioux, Marcela, Princesa Blanca vs Amapola, Hiroka, Medussa
3) Flash vs Pólvora [lightning]
4) Mascara Dorada, Máximo, Valiente vs Felino, Misterioso II, Sangre Azteca
5) La Máscara, Toscano, Volador Jr. vs Ephesto, Terrible, Texano Jr.
6) Dos Caras Jr., Mark Corleone, Shocker vs Black Warrior, Rey Bucanero, Último Guerrero

That’s a random but fun sounding lightning match. They haven’t done one of those for a while – last one I see is June 30, 2006 between Mascara Purpura & Stuka. A Lightning match is just a 10 minute time limit one fall match, usually between young guys.

Nice that they’re bundling Los Hijo del Averno as a rudo trio, but shouldn’t the guy who won Leyenda de Azul get the main event?

The opener is an ongoing feud. Maybe “ongoing” is too strong, “continuing” without making progress works better.

Mistico is in Tijuana on this night.

While you’re waiting for this week’s shows, here’s last week’s Ras de Lona:

  1. See, that bodybuilding competition is a vehicle for a push. Like I said back when the competition happened, Polvora should get a nice push now. Paco Alonso is like Vince – both are supermarks for those disgusting physiques. Why else was Alonso around to present the awards but has never appeared at an Arena Mexico wrestling shows in years?

Cometa/Pegasso in CMLL! AWESOME! But that midcard is quickly filling up with masked flyers who are all going to blend together soon enough and create quite the logjam when it comes to getting pushes. No complains here though, I’m happy.:)

Isn’t it funny how AAA used to always be considered the promotion to go when you want to see high flyers in spotty matches and now both CMLL/IWRG have 10x better flyers than AAA and a bunch of better matches featuring high flying?

I wonder if they’re turning Dragon Rojo Jr. tecnico slowly? The new look is definitely for the ladies and rudo vs rudo usually doesn’t work as one guy always becomes the tecnico thanks to the fans. That’ll be interesting to watch.

On a final note that probably nobody will get – that Angel De Oro/Angel Azteca Jr. vs Caligula/Messala match is the 2009 version of Los Rayos Tapatios vs Artillero/Super Comando.:)

(BTW, I am salavating at the thought of a Cometa/Pegasso/Stuka Jr. vs Euforia/Noferatu/Virus match.)

  2. I was thinking more of a 2009 version of Explosivo & Sombra de Plata vs. Ramstein & Super Comando.

  3. WTF? C3 is airing the Tuesday opener but Ramstein no-showed! THE ONE DAY HE WAS GONNA BE ON TV! Skandalo is replacing him…

  4. This local feed needs to fix their commercials b/c that opener was unwatchable when they returned from the long break into the exact three counts to end each fall.

  5. That Torneo should have aired on FSE seeing as everyone involved mailed it in completely.

Maybe the long commercials were to make time for the Torneo which aired unedited and was 20+ mins but blew.

The Black Warrior elimination was so stupid. He can’t job to any of the tecnicos so he jobs to the ref? I thought that shit was reserved for AAA?

Speaking of AAA being garbage, I watched the Fuerza Aerea vs Secta match from last weekend’s TV. Granted 2/3rd of the tecnico team were forced to work while seriously injured (get CNN on the phone, Konnan! Oh wait…) the match was too short and very sloppy and had a beyond botched finish. So now AAA even manages to ruin the one good thing left in the promotion – the Fuerza Aerea.

Maybe Konnan WANTS Aero Star/Angel to work hurt so they can have bad matches and thus prove that AAA needs guys like Pac and the Briscoes to have any good matches? USAUSA1 can clarify it for us I’m sure. Something about Konnan not being involved in AAA at all I think.

And yes, it does pain me to be talking like all the anti-AAA haters I was constantly fighting with over the last many years. But AAA does completely blow these days and deserves to be shit all over.

  6. I don’t know how anyone can watch AAA anymore? It’s a chore getting through those shows and CMLL isn’t much better. IWRG is the best show these days.

  7. Rob, why haven’t you weighed in on former porn star Trina Michaels posting on her MySpace that AAA is bringing her in later this month.

  8. I’m seriously starting to lose interest in AAA and I only started watching a couple of months ago. Konnan is really jacking up this show and it’s like watching WCW, but a worse version.

  9. @KrisZ: Still trying to figure out who is bringing her in. Vamp has Pena’s sister. Konnan is a sick old man who likely can’t get it up any more. Octagon has taken so many drugs he probably stopped getting it up since the mid 90’s. It’s either Mesias who wants in her for a regular fucktoy while on tour or Dorian Roldan saw a picture of her somewhere and she’s taking his virginity in exchange for a few paydays.

Either way I’m sure Chui and USAUSA1 will explain to us how this is in the best interest of AAA.

  10. Well she’s also said that she’s going to WWE so who knows? If anyone is bringing her in, It’s Jack Evans. She’s training with PWG.

  11. Didn’t Jack burn his bridge with the PWG crew? Guess that doesn’t mean much but fuck, why bring another useless women to AAA? I thought Teddy already pissed people off with that Nikki girl?

AAA is the absolute shits right now. All the Konnan having no power is bs. He’s steering the wheel right now for sure and it fucking sucks. Konnan is one of the biggest bs artist this side of his old nWo buddies and is working Dave Meltzer the same way Big Cripple himself works Wade Keller at The Torch.

  12. Just goes to show you there are no busty semi-good looking chicks in all of Mexico. No wonder Konnan has to fly in an American porn star!

By Konnan logic there are no good wrestlers or good looking women in Mexico. What does Mexico have?

  13. Okay, so no sarcasm at all. I want you to explain to me in all seriousness how using a porn star from America is beneficial to AAA.

Please include the words “pop culture” and “cutting egde” for maximum hilarity.

Bonus points if you can make a case about CMLL being behind the times b/c they haven’t used a porn star yet.

  14. Yes, that should say ‘edge’. I twisted the letters around to be on innovative. I pulled a RELLIK.

  15. Don’t you know? Everytime you say Rellik, you have to say “that’s killer spelled backwards.”

And CMLL has used porn stars. Hell Blue Panther was in one of my favorite “Be the mask” episodes.

  16. Is it really worth getting wound up about if/how AAA is going to use someone before they’ve actually used them? Use that energy to note we still don’t have a lineup for Wednesday’s TV taping.

  17. 1.* Something with Billy Boy
    2.* Women
3.* Fuerza Aerea jobbing to the Psycho Circus
4.* D-Mex vs La Secta… again only this time with interference!
5.* Mesias/Parka/LUCHADOR SORPRESA who will just be a random regular AAA worker like Octagon vs Jack/Teddy/LUCHADOR SORPRESA who will be the Italian guy but we’ll still call it a surprise since GdT hasn’t aired on TV yet

    * = Konnan run-in

Pictures will show the attendance as roughly 4,000 but Meltzer will claim 14,000 via Konnan.

USAUSA1 will claim AAA is presenting a cutting edge product that the fans really want to see but it just so happens that on Wednesday there was a soccer game on the other side of Mexico that effected attendance and it’s a known fact that Wednesdays are horrible nights for wrestling… which explains why AAA was smart enough to book a Wednesday taping.

  18. 12/17 – Arena Xalapa (TV taping)
    1. ?
    2. ??
    3. ???
    4. ????
    5. Chessman vs. Zorro
    6. El Mesias/La Parka Jr./Luchador Sorpresa vs. Electroshock/Konnan/Luchador Sorpresa

That’s it so far and the sorpresas are handpicked by Roldan & Konnan

  19. Btw, I was just listening to In Your Head radio and Trina Michaels was on. She said she’s been talking to AAA about doing some stuff with the promotion and confirmed that Konnan’s her AAA contact.

  20. @KrisZ:

    Full lineup

12/17 – Arena Xalapa (TV taping)
    1. Lumberjack Match: Fabi y Mari Apache vs. Cinthia Moreno & Tiffany
    2. Gato Eveready/Oriental/Pimpinela Escarlata vs. Los Vipers Revolucion (Black Abyss/Histeria/Psicosis)
    3. 3 Way Ladder Match for the AAA Tag Titles: Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario (c) vs. Extreme Tiger & Luchador Sorpresa vs. The Hart Foundation 2.0 (Jack Evans & Teddy Hart)
    4. Brazo de Plata/Laredo Kid/Super Fly vs. Cuervo/Escoria/Ozz
    5. Chessman vs. Zorro
    6. Abismo Negro/Alan Stone/El Mesias vs. Electroshock/Konnan/Luchador Sorpresa

  21. Oh good, now we’ve gotten to the day where guys will be killing themselves in ladder matches on regular tapings instead of just the big shows.

There’s a lot of XPW-influenced things going on in this promotion which can’t be a coincidence.

  22. @Phil Lions: You’re a liar. USAUSA1 told me Konnan is only involved in his own angles and has nothing to do with the rest of AAA. Are you calling Konnan a liar? :o

  23. Chilpancingo taping is also up on the AAA website.

Should I mention that one of the first things Konnan said he wanted to get rid of was the ‘luchador sorpresa’ gimmick Pena loved so much?

    Nah.
