Perro Jr. was surprised Dos Caras Jr. wasn’t there. I hope that’s a joke or a misunderstanding because CMLL announced that a couple weeks ago. (In a Box Y Lucha article about Wagner’s veto, Dos is said to have thought Perro was still with CMLL and so it was okay to work this show.) Perro hopes to have US stars on future shows.

related Box Y Lucha article: Super Nova talks about where he’s been and joining this group

Before the show, everyone came to the ring to thank the fans for supporting them and promising to bring more interaction between the people and the wrestlers. There were some microphone problems here, and thru the show, and Perro vowed to run the sound himself next time if that’s what it took.

Everyone seems to have agreed on the 75% figure. If I understand right, they were in the fencing hall (Sala de Armas) sits 3000 in the grandstand. Not sure how much that leaves for the floor.

The reports from those who there seemed to enjoy the show – the Notimex reports are really excited about it. (Ovaciones doesn’t even appear to cover it.) It’s clear people want this group to work, to create a new independent organization and for it to be wrestler run and wrestler owned. The organization part just seems missing.

No announced return date.

  1. A few more thoughts on the Perros show and the promotion as a whole.

First, thanks Cubs for this blog. Today was the first time I had posted, but I have been reading for it for most of the last year. I’m an American who is living in Mexico City for a few years because my of my wife’s job. I’m a life long wrestling fan, and I have enjoyed getting more familiar with lucha libre during my year here. I don’t speak much Spanish, so this site has been one of my main sources of information for things that I don’t get to see on TV. I’ve been going to about a show per month since last March. I’ve seen the Perro/Garza hair match show, TripleMania, and several other shows leading up to the PDM debut show this last weekend. I’ll try to provide a fan in the crowd perspective on future shows I attend as well.

The 3500 reported by xuisaw on the on the other post sounds about right. Assuming 3000 capacity in the bleachers and a few thousand on the floor this would be about 75%. I won’t guess the attendance at Arena Mexico, but I’m sure it out drew this. I’m not sure that is the point though since a good card at Arena Mexico should out draw any other show in Mexico City on any day of the week. CMLL is lucha libre in Mexico City for a lot of the fan base and has a tradition that no other promotion will be able to match. Perro, Ciber, Wagner, and Park probably feel like they should be able to sell out Sala de Armas no matter what, but I think that competing against one of the best cards that CMLL has put on in months (what fued is more relevant than Averna vs Mistico in CMLL right now?), convincing 3500 fans to pay more to see the premier show for a promotion isn’t a bad showing.

My biggest concern for the Perro’s promotion is the lack of direction/organization. I should have left the hall yesterday knowing when the next show in the DF was going to be held and with the implication that Ciber would be there challenging Wagner to show up and a hint that Crazy might be back to respond to an offer to join the Perros. Since that didn’t happen, I’m left to assume that they have no idea when they will be running their next show here or if they will be able to deliver the wrestlers they had at this show. This makes running big angles like the Ciber/Wagner challenge risky since as a fan I have little reason to believe that any future match is more likely to occur on a future Perro’s show than on any other indy show. I was happy to see a web address on the side of the PDM truck (perrosdelmal.net) but the web page is clearly just a place holder with no real information at this point so that just reinforces the lack of direction.

OK, sorry if this was long and rambling, but thought it would make the most sense as one posting.

  2. That’s a lot of neat info and made for a good read. It’s always awesome to come across English speaking folks who attend live shows in Mexico.:)
