CMLL #896 (11/01)

taped 10/31

Catching up here, this was the last week of a strong La Laguna As Tecnicos push. I watched this and the next week’s TV on back to back days, and it was striking how all of that was completely moved past for Mistico’s return. Part of that might be because of how not-over it was, but there’s a lot of missing week to week planing. There’s no reason to be re-introducing Averno, Mephisto and Ephesto as the Triad of Terror if you know you’re going to add Texano & Terrible to the group the following week and change the name. You’re left to assume they didn’t know what was coming.

The nice thing about being 17 days behind in posting these is the matches where they were clearly just doing a screwjob finish to do a screwjob finish and not because they had any plans for it – like Corelone/Niebla – stick out even more. It seemed like the idea for this week was to set up V3 vs Blue Panther to get Panther a rehab win, but that seems to be as equally dropped. Probably for the best; rehabbing Panther is fruitless at this point.

I don’t know if it’s CMLL or Televisa making the decisions, but whichever needs to do a better job of highlighting the storylines. It doesn’t matter how many they’re doing if they’re treated as non stories. The Triad/Perros shirt ripping storyline was just a 5 second clip in the midst of some replays, shown from far away and never replayed again. The finish to that match, with Sombra/Dragon Rojo falling apart as a team, should’ve led into a big plug for next Tuesday’s title match with those two but did not seem to. I don’t pay close enough attention to the announcers to know if they’re getting this storylines over themselves, but from what I’ve heard when I have listened in, it’s quite unlikely.

CMLL FSE #118 (11/09)

taped 11/02, aired 11/09, recapped 11/11

Okay, the upside about CMLL completely forgetting to the do blow off angle for Infernales vs Stuka/Flash is that we get even more of these matches. I’m guessing one of the guys was just booked elsewhere this past Sunday and no one realized it until Monday. Still could’ve been handled better.

Main event was more fun that I expected it to be.

11/18 (afternoon): notes

A few more notes, neglected earlier…

Today’s Ovaciones features the return of Arturo Rivera’s column – he’s been suffering from salmonella. Arturo focuses on the challenges for Cibernetico if he actually did leave AAA. Meanwhile, Cibernetico shows off his Perros del Mal t-shirt to LMdLL, and I think everyone hotlinking to Cibernetico wearing the Perros del Mal t-shirt on Box Y Luchas has caused their site to go over their bandwidth limit and crash it for now. (This is why there’s no hotlinking the wiki, unless people specifically ask for it.)

Guerreros del Ring #166 has Perro Aguayo Jr. I’m more interested in what Tony Salazar could be protesting the Box Y Lucha comission about. Anyway, in KrisZ’s news update I linked to this morning, Perro mentions he had no idea what Cibernetico is doing, which signals work as clearly as anything.

SuperLuchas says one of the matches for the 11/30 show will be Aerostar, Laredo Kid, and Pegasso vs Cuervo, Ozz, and Scoria. That’d be news, not just for the Air Force teaming up for the first time since Laredo’s return, but Pegasso’s been gone from here. I presume that’s just a confusion with Super Fly or Angel and it sounds like a fun match (until the Legion run in and attack everyone.)

Intocable is scheduled to appear as part of the annual Teleton. That’s December 5th and 6th, which may pre-empted CMLL (and AAA in the US on that Saturday.)

This article about Pimpinela wrestling in Laredo, Texas refers to him as “Miss Gay Mexico 2008.” I think I’m better of not knowing if that’s an actual contest.

11/18: Juarez, IWRG

AAA (SUN) 11/16 Poliforo Juan Gabriel, Ciudad Juarez [Albert Cerda]
1) el Romano & Hermes Jr. b ?? & Rey Halcon
2) La Perucha, Magico, Samuari b ?, ??, ???
3) Bello Armando, Chucky, Rocky Santana b Maquina 45 Jr., Peluchin I, Peluchin II
4) Fabi Apache, Gran Apache, Mari Apache b Cinthia Moreno, Oriental, Sexy Star
5) Killer Clown, Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown b Aerostar, Gato Eveready, Super Porky
6) Alan Stone, El Elegido, La Parka Jr. b Electro Shock, Guerrero Escarlata, Mesias

Zorro was supposed to be on this show, was not. This is the third straight time here that’s happened. Mesias and Electro didn’t get along, so they’re building the tecnico turn on spots shows. Announcer introduced the Psycho Circus as the previous set of the clowns, so they punked him out after the match.

IWRG (SUN) 11/16 Arena Naucalpan [SoloLuchas]
1) Halcon 2000 b Avisman
2) Chico Che & Eragon b King Drako & Nemesis IWRG
3) Arlequin & el Hijo del Pierroth b Máscara Año 2000 & Mascara Ano 2000 Jr.
4) Head Hunter I, Head Hunter II, Toxico AAA b Super Astro, Tinieblas Jr., Zatura
5) Fuerza Guerrera b Black Terry [IWRG IC WELTER, hair]

Main event ended up being title vs hair. Terry took the first, Fuerza took the second. In the third, the seconds got involved – Cerebro Negro for Black Terry and Oficial Fierro for Fuerza. To end it, Black Terry got the Fuerza with the backcracker, Fuerza got his foot on the rope, Cerebro Negro attacked Fuerza and got thrown out by the referee. While the referee was busy there, Oficial 911 ran in and hit Black Terry with a chair. Fuerza covered for the win. SoloLuchas says it’s a MOTYC and talks to Fuerza about the win.

Head Hunters forked Zatura. Arlequin/Hijo del Pierroth won with Pierroth II showing up to help.

SoloLuchas always has an interview with IWRG referee Ruvinskis and Mascara de Oro Jr.. Before he was a wrestler, Ruvinskis was the original Mascara de Oro, so he’s handed down the gimmick to his son (who wants revenge on the Head Hunters for forking his father.)

ESTO hypes up tonight’s CMLL show as the return of Negro Casas

Another article on the next Todos x el Todos show.

Al Filo del Ring interviews Rayo de Jalisco Jr., who recently fell out of the ring in a match and ended up with 32 stiched and a neck collar. He hopes to be back in the ring in two weeks. Rayo’s eternal tease of returning to Arena Mexico now is projected at January, because he was busy in Japan earlier. There’s also an interview with Hijo de Pierroth & Arlequin, who are now getting their title shot on 11/23.

SuperLuchas looks back at the Killer vs Villano III (1992) and writes about Blue Panther joining a campagin against violence against women.

LuchaWorld has Robert on 07/22/06 CMLL and 07/07/06 AAA and KrisZ’s news update.

Victor recaps this week’s FSE show.

Ohtani’s Jacket watched 10/03/2008 IWRG, Blue Panther vs Villano V in Arena Puebla and points towards Black Terry vs Negro Navarro on YouTube.

LA Park and Tinieblas headline an indy shows in Odessa Friday and in El Paso this Sunday.

3) Alex Koslov, Rocky Romero, X-Pac b Crazy Boy, Oriental, Ultimo Gladiador

5) La Parka Jr., Mesias, Súper Fly b Kenzo Suzuki, Konnan, Rellik

Projected Air Date (#864)
Mexico: 11/30
US: 12/20

Any story between Gran Apache and Billy Boy has long drifted to the side. The opener was just six guys having an exciting match with the tecnicos winning, and then were crash dummies for the Legion. Konnan had something to say (and surely was worried about getting some TV time to talk.) Konnan prohibited dancing in the company, which caused Latin Lover to come out to dance, which caused Konnan to fire him. Roldan and Vampiro showed up to say Konnan had to be accountable to AAA and couldn’t fire people for dancing.

Aerostar wiped himself out on his tope in the segunda. Teddy got the pin on Angel for the win.

DGM won when Crazy missed his chair moonsault. X-Pac hit Crazy with the chair for the win. (I think.)

Semimain was back to Konnan heavy, as he interfered to help Zorro thru the match and ordered Hijo de Tirantes not call a DQ. If there’s anything Hijo de Tirantes can do, it’s not call a DQ. Zorro fouled Latin for the rare win.

Mesias was the surprise on the tecnico side, and he got along with his teammates this time. Match was focused between Konnan and Parka. Konnan yanked Parka’s mask, DGM showed up to distract Konnan, Parka pinned Konnan. Konnan tried once more to recruit Mesias to the Legion, but Mesias rejected him again. He’s taking Cibernetico’s spot on the tecnico side.

Next taping is 11/30. While there’s still no officially announced matches for GdT, they’re clearly headed in the direction suggested by the posted Guerra de Titanes lineup; Zorro & Mesias makes more sense for the title, and Latin/Konnan was set up here.
