AAA wishes Barba Roja good luck in his future endeavors

Of all the WWE homages AAA’s doing, this bit remains my favorite. Don’t be mistaken by my mirth, he’s surely gone. And also showing up in IWRG within three weeks.

Comment suggestion: speculate on how Barba Roja did not fit in Konnan’s New AAA. FAKE BEARD = NOT SERIOUS ENOUGH.

In other AAA news, they opened new offices. Of course, there’s a plaque for Antonio Pena.

(also, I think there’s a taping lineup there too that I should be posting.)

  1. Fake beard probably had something to do with it.

    Oh…

    and the fact he’s MEXICAN.

Damn Mexicans trying to work for a Mexican promotion.

  2. Next time cubsfan is on F4WOnline’s audio show, I’d like him to say “AAA doesn’t like Mexicans” and follow it up with about 5 seconds of uncomfortable silence.:)

  3. he’s gone because he’s mexican, he’s a decent worker, and why would they want more than one atomico team?

  4. Well it wasn’t an Atomico team any more anyways since Nemesis (Hijo de Pirata) left a while back. You will note he is also a Mexican and a good worker.

  5. The key word is the left, they were not fired by AAA, so this all “they’re Mexicans” is nonsense.

  6. At least with Pirata Morgan himself, they still were an Atomico team (Pirata Morgan, Barba Roja, El Hijo del Pirata Morgan & Pirata Morgan Jr.) since Nemesis wasn’t Hijo del Pirata Morgan but Drake Morgan.

  7. *L* Well first off, AAA is claiming he left. I’m sure he’d have a different story. Second, people don’t leave unless they are being treated bad in some way. You’ve been going on and on about how awful the indies are these days and how guys who are leaving end up working Martha’s promotion or in Naucalpan in front of nobody so my guess is he didn’t choose to leave b/c he’s dying to go work for either of those places. Maybe you know something else though in which case please share.

The Mexicans are leaving b/c they’re getting treated like crap and being passed up in favor of the foreigners. The foreigners aren’t leaving and more keep coming b/c AAA is offering them sweet deals. This is why (as noted in the WON this week) Teddy Hart’s g/f gets flown to every show while the entire women’s roster has to take the bus. Mexicans don’t deserve airplanes according to those in charge of AAA, they’re just cheap labour.

  8. Are the fans leaving? Are ratings going down? If not then I don’t know why AAA should change what they are doing? And doesn’t the entire women’s roster only like 4 or 5 women?

  9. The point is this is setting up the future collapse. You sound like the morons in WCW during 1998 who thought everything was fine and nothing could go wrong b/c ratings were high and attendance was great for all their big shows (and terrible for their house shows – sounds farmiliar?).

Stick to soap operas, Timmy. Much easier to understand.

  10. Everything is just speculation on your part as no one has complained about that but everyone is saying it is all about the $$$, which is Roldans’ (Joaquin and Marisela) responsibility. The only guys who have actually been fired are Abismo, TJ Xtreme and Halloween, the later two were “Konnan’s buddies”, so how come they were fired if Konnan is running the company?

If Peña was alive, they wouldn’t have that many foreigners, that’s for sure, but that’s because Peña knew everyone in the business, which Dorian does not, so they have to depend on Konnan, who is blacklisted by CMLL, so has limited choices. But once the Roldans see that they can bring 3 foreigners for the price of one Mexican, is an easy choice, and indeed, a sweet deal, for AAA.

One thing is for sure, there’s no point believing Observer’s stories as they come from Konnan and Vampiro and they’ve proved to be bogus all the time.

AAA’s house shows are doing pretty good, so maybe you are talking about CLL? Oh wait, their ratings and attendances for their big shows are awful, so they’re even worse than WCW. FWIW, CMLL had 10 Foreingers in the 07/25/2006 show, and a whopping 12 foreigners at the 05/12/2006 show.

  11. I think that part of the thing was that perhaps Konnan realizes with AAA now be challenged by the WWE as the topic Mexican promotion, they need to change. Look at ROH in America, they too are changing because of the economy and the fact they hit a wall under the recent booking that has been done so with AAA looking to bring in talents from America and dropping talents who are not as good is not too far fetched to me. Who knows, maybe Barba Roja did something bad backstage.

IMO IF it was based on talent, Hijo De Pirata Morgan should have gone first so I think Roja did something wrong.

  12. Either that or Konnan is trying to turn AAA into WCW or hell ECW.

BTW, how long before Super Crazy turns up in AAA or EMLL?

  13. “FWIW, CMLL had 10 Foreingers in the 07/25/2006 show, and a whopping 12 foreigners at the 05/12/2006 show.”

I can prove a point also if I go back 2+ years (although I didn’t find the 7/25/06 show you mention). Can you give a more recent example? It’s also kinda unfair that you picked the Gran Prix show. I mean, I can prove WCW was racist to Americans if I just go and show how many foreigners worked the Jim Crockett Tag Tournament in 1990 or whatever that tournament was called that had one team for each country.

As for the guys who were fired, while I’m not the biggest Konnan supporter – even he knows you can’t keep booking guys with bad drug habbits who constantly no-show. If we are to believe the rumors that Ciber, Chessman and Mesias are all drugged up (via Bob via the always 100% clean Vamp) – at least they make the shows, even the non-TV shows.

“But once the Roldans see that they can bring 3 foreigners for the price of one Mexican, is an easy choice, and indeed, a sweet deal, for AAA.”

If you can find any combination of 3 foreigners that together cost less than 1 Mexican who isn’t named Santo, Perrito, Wagner or Parka I will never speak of this foreigner deal again. There is no way a guy like Generico, for example, is losing money just to get the chance to work in AAA. He has Japan gigs and he has bookings every weekend in the States. Why would he possibly give up all that just to work for crumbs in AAA?

Now I’m gonna ask the same question I asked you before but got no answer to – are you happy with the current product AAA is producing?

  14. I’m not positive but I would think Romero, Kozlov and Jack Evans cost less than Latin Lover. And even if the current AAA product is bad, Less foreigners aren’t going to help things. You still got Konnan’s booking and that would mean Joe Lider and Crazy boy in the main events. Do you really want that?

  15. I didn’t know Dragon Gate and All Japan is paying big money these days because they’re not.

The AAA product has been stale lately because the Foreign Legion vs. AAA feud is old but at the same time at least the storyline is progressing. Konnan having control over AAA adds another dimension.

The indy guys coming obviously will not be there for long and will show up just for storyline purposes. I actually think it’s a good way to test out guys and see how the fans will react.

Frankly, I don’t think these guys are coming in.

  16. I don’t see the American stars if they are indeed coming as negatives, if anything it gets more gringos from America(like myself) into the product. However the Foreign Legion deal should be dropped already. I have no problem keeping Konnan as a heel authority figure but give guys like Kenzo and El Zorro more depth than being Mexico haters already. Also the potential for Americans coming in can’t be worse than seeing the La Familia-MexicanPowers clusters from last year/early this year.

  17. @Tim: You’re probably right. Romero, Kozlov and Jack Evans probably do cost less than one Latin Lover. That’s because THEY’RE WORTH LESS. You get what you pay for.

The point is the lack of quality wrestlers/performers coming in that’s turning AAA into a garbage dump.

Before I get a whole bunch of replies from people saying “what are you calling Jack Evans grabage?” let me make it clear that I’m talking in general, not just one wrestler.

  18. Kozlov and Evans are not as bad as you think they are Daniel. Romero maybe. But you have to look at it also as this is Konnans doing because if Pena was alive this would not be happening.

  19. @k.D.b: Pena has gone through his phases of bringing in international talent.

Remember “The Ugly Americans” with UPW? Remember when Pena would bring in TNA stars? His deal with WWE in 1996? KGB. Lady Victoria. The Rebel(indie from Oklahoma).

Pena always wanted AAA to have an international feel to it. But in the end, it would fall apart due to financial concerns, or Pena’s way of doing business.

So, yes, if Pena was alive, this would not be happening, because Pena’s style of doing business would make all of this impossible. Pena himself was the obstacle.

  20. AAA always did bring in international stars, the difference between the Pena days and now is that Pena used them properly. Latin Lover vs Jeff Jarrett at the 2004 Rey de Reyes was well promoted and the crowd was right into it. When the Ugly Americans took on AAA’s team Mexico the crowd was cheering and hoping that their heros would overcome the large, hostile invadores. CMLL uses the foreigners as a regular part of the roster and they add to the show just a well as everybody else. Look at Corlione and Sara Stock, they’re great for CMLL. Even Koslov was good there because he was used properly.

Now we have Konnan booking, and since he doesn’t know what he’s doing he’s just flooding AAA with foreign guys who for the most part are just thrown into the legion, and AAA is trying to adapt itself to an American style. This creates a feel that we’re watching a US indy show in Mexico, as opposed to Mexican wrestling.

After watching the Degeneration Mex promos it looks like a very cheap rip off of Degenetation X, and a big waste of time. It’s a waste of Alex Koslov, and X-Pac is just trying to relive 1998.
