10/18: Mexico, IWRG, AAA, Lineups

CMLL (FRI) 10/17 Arena Mexico [Ovaciones, superluchas, la afficion, ESTO]
1) Axel, Flash, Neutron b Loco Max, Nitro, Skandalo
2) Felino, Heavy Metal, Sangre Azteca b Máximo, Sagrado, Valiente
3) Averno, Mephisto, Terrible vs Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza, Volador Jr.
4) Blue Panther, Ephesto, Último Guerrero b Villano III, Villano IV, Villano IV [Relevos Increíbles]
5) Marco Corelone b Lizmark Jr. [hair]

The story coming out of last night’s show is not Corelone winning, but Lizmark Jr. being robbed. The crowd ended up behind the Mexican thru the match, and was very upset when Lizmark Jr. lost despite having his foot on the ropes. Lizmark Jr. gained respect for losing anyway. ESTO puts it “Marco came out the winner without merit.”

If Lizmark’s had a big surprise for his corner person, it was not intersting enough for anyone to write about it.

Lagunera won in straight falls. Villanos were DQed for ripping UG’s mask in fall 1, UG pinned V5 in fall 2. Match was said to be not good. Usual post match challenges.

Terrible yanked Dos Jr.’s mask to get the pin. Valiente looked good in his match. Rudos lost the opener (with Neutron replacing Metalik) but looked like the better team.

IWRG SCORPIO (FRI) 10/17 Arena Naucalpan [SuperLuchas]
1) Avisman b Halcon 2000
2) Eragon & Miss Gavitoa b Carta Bravo & King Drako
3) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Freelance, Pegasso Xtreme, Rey Cometa [EdM TRIOS]
4) Black Terry, Dr. Cerebro, Shu el Guerrero b Freelance, Latino, Super Astro
5) El Hijo Del Santo, Groon XXX, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. b Fuerza Guerrera, LA Park, Máscara Año 2000

Groon replaced Zumbido, Freelance worked twice to replace Multifacetio. The Oficials are going to keep winning until we give those titles a luchawiki page. Santo got Fuerza in the main with the camel clutch, which of course led to a mask challenge.

SuperLuchas says the arena was full (how much do they hold?) and it sounds like they’re moving the Thursday shows to Friday for the time being.

A couple of AAA notes: Aerostar IS in the Pena tournament, according to the lineup on their page. That makes a lot more sense. While you’re betting on surprise returns from injury in that tournament, pick Laredo Kid.

They’ve also listed upcoming tapings as 11/09 in Irapuato, 11/15 in Cuernavaca and 11/17 in Leon. (They promise big surprises, but I think it’s time I stop making a post about vagueness.) Next taping being 11/09 means the Pena show is going to be split over two episodes. It’s only a six match show, so there should be some long matches (and if someone’s reading this, maybe you can add on the token Billy Boy/other tecnicos not on the card vs Monterry Trio so you don’t have so much padding.) That 11/17 Leon taping projects to air December 1st in Mexico and Decemeber 21st in the US, so you get an idea on how far down the road we’re looking. AAA probably has two or three more tapings yet to announce this year.

Hijo del Santo has opened a new store, in terminal 2 of the Mexico City airport. Sounds like a prime place for making lots of money off tourists.

Milenio has a postive review of Los Campeons de Lucha Libre.

Two trios of Laguneras, plus Stuka and Euforia sneaking on to the card. Hmmm.

  1. There you go, CMLL’s huge tecnico shortage in full effect – one tecnico (who should be a rudo) between the main and semi of the biggest weekly show in Mexico. However, this Lagunera thing is at least kinda interesting and intriguing. And if the rumours are to be believed and they have a bit of power backstage now, i look forward to a real shakeup which is badly needed. In the semi, Misterioso should be pretty fun as a tecnico, but not the other two. Bottom 2 look like fun, not that it matters to us :(

Replace Wagner with Ultimo and that main is almost a repeat of a match in 2000 which was reported to be arguably MOTY (in the same year as Atlantis/VIII – so it must’ve been good), only it was butchered on TV to about 10 minutes from 30. Wonder what makes me think we will never see a match like that from them now?.. :(

Tuesdays card blows. The women seem to be far more in favour than the mini’s these days which is hugely disappointing and a bit worrying. Nice rudo trio in the tercera though, and good to see Dr X getting bookings. I was really interested to see Tuesdays card as well because Neutron’s usual pattern is to float around DF shows for a couple of weeks then disappear for a couple of months so i was hoping he might be in there. I won’t be surprised one bit if he’s in next Sunday’s tv dead spot segunda.

So you all think last night was set up for Corleone jumping? I think it looks pretty likely now, although i knew he wouldn’t walk out before the match and let the company down.

  2. >> The Oficials are going to keep winning until we give those titles a luchawiki page.

The Luchawiki already have a page of those titles:

    http://www.luchawiki.org/index.php?title=Distrito_Federal_Trios_Championship

The Distrito Federal Trios Championship do not exist. That page refers to the Estado de Mexico Trios Championship, but with a wrong name.

The titles were created in early 80s in Arena Naucalpan with the permission of Juan José Herrera Ornelas, president of the Comisión de Box y Lucha Libre del Estado de Mexico. Naucalpan is outside of the Distrito Federal jurisdiction, so don’t have any sense to have DF titles defendeded only in Naucalpan.

  3. I wish they’d put together the Volador Jr./Misterioso II tecnico tag team. I’m still kind of surprised they haven’t gone with it and its been years since they both joined CMLL and there’s already history behind them. That would be a fun team to throw against Averno/Mephisto. Then they have the split at some point.

The 3rd and 4th match from the IWRG Scorpio benefit show sound like fun, but that main not so much.

  4. Next Fri ArMx main and semi will surely be rudos vs rudos deals.

Moving Naucalpan tapings to Fridays makes little sense.

  5. @Alfredo: The did do this! It was early on, when Mistico was still on the same level as them. But then were in an apparent hurry to turn Misterioso rudo to do the Volador/Misterioso feud, only they didn’t follow up on that enough.

  6. “If Lizmark’s had a big surprise for his corner person, it was not intersting enough for anyone to write about it.”

Leave it to CMLL to build something up and then completely blow it off. Is there ANYONE professional in any sort of position of power?

“3) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Freelance, Pegasso Xtreme, Rey Cometa [EdM TRIOS]”

I hope Chui ends up getting this. He was nice enough to upload the match from last week which was pretty fun and had a GREAT third fall. Since it was a 3 match show they were given about 20 minutes to work with. 20 MINUTES. CMLL hasn’t had a 20 minute trios match since… god… who the hell even knows. AAA might have had a 20 minute match this year but we’d never know since it all gets edited to death.

“A couple of AAA notes: Aerostar IS in the Pena tournament, according to the lineup on their page. That makes a lot more sense. While you’re betting on surprise returns from injury in that tournament, pick Laredo Kid.”

That is very good news. Maybe it’s not Aero Star though, maybe they’re just gonna sign Brandon Bonham and put him under Aero Star’s mask…

Weird that they just ran two tournaments in Guadalajara to set up finals which won’t take place till 10/27. If anyone is keeping track the finals are Sombra/Metalik vs Ultimo Guerrero/Olimpico. HEY NOW!

Next Tuesday’s card looks very weak which is AWESOME b/c the Senators are in town and I won’t be even attempting to watch anything else but that. Good programming!

Friday’s show looks awesome. I’m eager to check out this rudo vs rudo feud and the semi-main looks pretty awesome. I’m still curious as to see when CMLL will assign roles for guys like Stuka Jr., Hooligan, Euforia and Bronco though. Will they not count as Laguneros? And the Sun/Tues booking is going to get REALLY COMPLICATED and FAST if they don’t form an alliance with someone. Gonna be lots of matches getting cheap endings due to the rudos turning on each other…

  7. @Henrik: Henrik wins.:) CMLL booking at its’ finest!

CMLL.com has small photos up from last night already. Lizmark Jr.’s second was Sangre Azteca.

  8. I was actually thinking about it earlier when i read Alfredo’s suggestion!

Opener looked like it might have been fun. Neutron still has the joint best non-fat guy moonsault in the business. He ties with Stuka :)

  9. In October ’05 Misterioso II had one match as a rudo but then went back to being a tecnico for some shows and starting in November ’05 with no explanation he began teaming with rudos again. Who needs logical turns? This is CMLL! Mistico will return as Dark Mistico and feud with a tecnico Perrito! Who needs to know why???

  10. @thecubsfan: As a tag team though? I think they worked trios. I’m talking full-blown tag team, not the team them up once and forget about it the following week sorta deal that goes on everywhere.

    Off subject…

AAA is missing a goldmine with that Konnan rap video. Instead of wasting it with Roldan, they should have someone like Elegido bust out some dance moves and try rapping on the video (kinda like Disco Inferno in WCW) . I think it would be funny and build-up more of a reason to root for Elegido, when he eventually gets his beating at the hands of Konnan and the Foreign Legion.

  11. @Alfredo:
well they were advertised as Los Reyes Del Aire and they did team for a few months from around July to October 2004 (they were starting just as Sin Limite finished) :(, but it was always with Mistico, at least in Arena Mex or Coliseo.

  12. http://xejtv.com/xejtv01/tvenvivo.html – That’s the XEJ feed incase anyone is interested. Third fall of tercera is coming up and should be the tecnico showcase. Volador took a cool bump in the second fall.

I’m just waiting to see the Laguneros team and check if Momentos is a repeat again which would confirm in my mind that it’s been cancelled.

  13. Why are so many guys using long sleeved jerseys? Are they junkies? (Short sleeved shirts should go as well)

  14. Is Mephisto part of Los Ageles and Volador was demoted into the Garza team? I don’t think it makes sense to use shirts which are not part of the regular outfit… what’s next, Rey Cometa and Pegasso Xtreme with “Martha rules” shirts?

  15. Maybe CMLL is trying to make juiced up guys hide their physiques as to not be walking advertisements for steroids.

Oh look, the third “training with Olimpico” video so far. ;)

    Yep, another typical Friday tercera…

  16. *L* Every time they cut to a crowd shot, it’s the same crowd shot from the Anniversary show to try and make it seems like there are a ton of fans in attendance.

  17. Confession time: I still kinda find the Villanos entertaining when they’re teaming as a trio. The whole is definitely better than the sum of it’s parts. :)

  18. Has Momentos been on, & did the Flash/Angel Azteca spot make it?

And did we get to see any of the opener in the background at the start? I swear every week when the announcers come on, i’m shouting at them “Get your fucking heads out of the way so i can see the ring and a bit of the match!!” :)

  19. “””
*L* Every time they cut to a crowd shot, it’s the same crowd shot from the Anniversary show to try and make it seems like there are a ton of fans in attendance.
    “””

    Last year’s Anniversary.

  20. No view of the opener and no Momentos yet. Doesn’t look like it’ll air b/c they usually air it before the commercial leading into the tercera so it should have just aired but didn’t.

I think Momentos is officially done. Editing CMLL TV is a hard job so they must not have time for Momentos any more. *sarcasm off*

  21. XEJ caught Momentos a little late so I missed the first spot. Chui? I only saw from Flash’s top-rope springboard moonsault!

  22. Olimpico overworks biceps. 4 sets of 10 reps of 3 exercises?

I love the ad with Pirata Morgan soaking his feet.

  23. Well, any Romanos is better than no Romanos :)

Speaking of which, they’re on TV in a few hours :D I hope it’ll be better than their last mailed in appearance.

Momentos better not skip Flash and Neutrons dive next week!

  24. It was pretty surprising that CMLL remembered Lizmark Jr. is friends with the Guerreros and not the Perros.

I hope the first period tonight ends at exactly 7:59pm so I can watch the full Tuesday segunda during intermission.

  25. God bless Hijo De Faraon, he sure tries hard.:P If he’d have hit that spot I’d have marked out big time.

Fun first fall for sure. Caligula ruled. Second fall wasn’t edited so I guess the rudos just took over right away. Third fall was way too short but AWESOME DIVE BY ANGEL DE ORO!

I gotta be honest – Hooligan is looking big time out of shape and lazy in his last few TV appearences.

  26. Where can I get that Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs. Freelance, Pegasso Xtreme, Rey Cometa match? I thought it might show up on PWT but all I see is the Azteca stuff.

  27. @Rob:

Missed that at first. It is OK to share, I forgot where the links are (dumb sharebee has never fixed that mail thing)
