09/21: IWRG, more Blue Panther/Villano V notes, Lineups

IWRG (THU) 09/18 Arena Naucalpan
1) Eragon b Epidemia
2) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico I b Anubis & Rockero del Diablo
3) Aeroman, Fenix, Freelance DQ Heavy Boy, Nemesis IWRG, Toxico AAA
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro [MEX TRIOS]
5) Multifacético & Shocker b El Dandy & Zumbido

Shocker pinned Dandy for the pin, and teased more with Zumbido to come. In the title match, 911 got Dr. Cerebro with a Gori Driver, but the challengers argued that Terry actually submitted the Oficial’s captian (Fierro?) just beforehand. Ref didn’t see it that way.

Panther/Villano links
Wagnermania posted 10 minutes of Ras de Lona, which includes finishes of the 3rd match, and then pre-match promos, highlights, and post-match promos for the top 3. Highlight is Villano V’s suit (~6:00)

– Univision has Blue Panther saying ““at least my mask will be in good hands
– ESTO has Villano V saying he’s happy, but sad for Blue Panther, because he knows how much he loves lucha libre. V5 notes there will be a lot of people coming after him now to avenge Panther (yes, UG is specifically mentioned.)
– ESTO also talks to a third party with a unique perspective; two years ago, Black Warrior was in the main event of the anniversary show. This year, he had no match and ended up sitting in the crowd with his family (he’d actually planned on just ordered the PPV but came to the show after it was canceled – so that bit worked on one family!) Warrior was surprised to see Blue Panther (his uncle) lose and figures this means Panther is planning on retiring but Warrior hopes he stays around a little longer. It’s not mentioned in the article, but the photo caption mentions Ultimo Guerrero and Ephesto were very sad about Panther being unmasked.
Box Y Lucha 2889‘s cover is easy to guess, as is SuperLuchas #282 (and surely every other magazine out this wek, or month.)

Box Y Lucha teases Olimpico angry with CMLL about not being booked on the anniversary show. I think they could’ve had ten matches and people would’ve been upset about being left off.

– If you haven’t seen it, Superluchas has the post match interviews.
– CMLL’s Blog has some photos of the opener.

AAA announced the 2nd Annual Antonio Pena Memorial show will take place on 10/19 in Veracruz. The king of the mountain style trophy match (won by Charly Manson last year) will return, and there’s a promise of more gimmick matches. AAA also says La Parka Jr. and Mascarita Sagrada will travel to France the week prior.

La Wagnermania was also nice enough to link to my uploaded version of the Discovery Lucha Libre documentary though any credit towards me posting it seems to be missing.

Accion had two big singles match.
CMLL: Panther/Villano V, which seemed to spend more time on V5’s busted back of the head wound (which looked legit – they slowed it down to emphasize the back of V5’s head hitting the lip of the chair)
AAA: Chessman vs Cibernetico. Not only do you have Chessman taking a preposterous (even for him) table bump with the table not breaking right (so it’s every AAA major show in the last 2 years), Cibernetico totally comes off as a rudo in the clip since he needed Mesias distraction to win. On the other hand, all Mesias did was walk down the aisle, and Chessman was distracted. Cibernetico could’ve brought a Mesais head on a stick to the ring and gotten the same reaction.

AAA (WED) 10/01 Cancha German Evers, Mazatlan, Sinaloa [noroeste]
1) Argus vs Black Dragon, Thunder Boy, El Mazatleco II, Tygon, Mr. Poker, Spartan, Wilbert, Viento Negro, Latino
2) El Relampago, Kempo Dragon, Linterna Verde vs Mercenario, Pesadilla, Siniestro
3) El Alebrije & El Elegido vs ? & Kenzo Suzuki
4) Joe Lider & Nicho el Millionario vs Jack Evans & Teddy Hart and Extreme Tiger & Halloween [AAA TAG]
5) Zorro vs Cibernetico, Chessman

Not only do we have Green Lantern feuding with Siniestro, but at the press conference to announce this match, a mystery man in a black mask ran in and laid out Linterna Verde.

Gladiatores has video interviews with Esther Moreno, Canek Jr., and Head Hunter. SoloLuchas has a text interview with Fantasma de la Opera.

You hear a lot about lucha libre shows using boxing rings, but not often do I read about lucha libre and boxing matches on the same show. I’m sure it happens often enough in the kind of level of shows we don’t hear about.

BlogCritics Magazine reviews Lucha Libre – Life Behind The Mask – that’s the one with Los Chivos.

Victor recaps the CMLL on FSE show. Robert writes about 02/25/06 CMLL, 03/04 CMLL and Reina de Reinas 06. Wrestling Observer has it’s AAA recap.

5) Juventud Guerrera & Zumbido vs Fuerza Guerrera & Shocker

Main event is amusing, because not only do we have Juvi vs Fuerza after they both announced that feud was dead, they’d never fight again and complained about the feud happening at all, but Juvi’s trying to get back in to AAA while Shocker (and Zumbido) would like to get back to CMLL.

CMLL (SUN) 09/28 Arena Coliseo
1) Rayo Tapatío I & Rayo Tapatío II vs Artillero & Súper Comando
2) Goddess, Princesa Blanca, Sahori vs La Nazi, Medussa, Mima Shimoda

5) Dos Caras Jr., Héctor Garza, Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Lizmark Jr., Rey Bucanero

Halcon Negro still being listed. I have no idea why. That women’s match looks scary. Is Medusa the best worker?

IWRG (SUN) 09/28 Arena Naucalpan
1) Epidemia vs Avisman
2) Eragon & Zatura vs Carta Brava & Heavy Boy
3) Gemelo Fanatstico I, Gemelo Fanatstico II, Jack vs Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Nemesis IWRG

5) Capitán Muerte, Cyborg, Xibalva vs Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro [IWRG IC TRIOS]

After the Oficials have succesfully defended the state championship succesfully many many times (SL counts 9), they get a shot at the IC titles, which the Death Squad has done nothing with in the 14 months they’ve held it. Hoping for new champs.
