09/17: Mexico, lots of links

CMLL (TUE) 09/16 Arena Mexico [ESTO]
2) Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei b Goddess, Lady Apache, Sahori
3) Mascarita Dorada b Bam Bam, Celestial, Pequeno Ninja, Pequeño Warrior, Pequeño Violencia, Pequeño Halloween, Fantasy, Sombrita, Electrico [MEX LIGHT, cibernetico, semifinal]
4) Black Warrior, Misterioso II, Rey Bucanero b La Máscara, Loco Max, Sagrado
5) Dos Caras Jr., Dr. Wagner Jr., Volador Jr. b Averno, Mephisto, Terrible

ESTO didn’t publish full lineups for these matches, so there may be some subs unaccounted for (probably in the minis match). They also note a poor turnout.

Loco Max was a random replacement for Alex Koslov, and turned on his teammates in the third fall. Cibernetico came down to Dorada beating Warrior, so it’s Doradao vs Pierroth for the title next week. Rudas cheated somehow to allow Sujei to pin Apache.

Strangely, AAA can’t be bothered to post actual lineups, and just lists the rudos and tecnicos working for shows in Veracruz, Calpulalpan, Poza Rica, Iztapalapa, Deportivo Oceania, Puebla, Tulancingo (apparently aren’t paying much), Mexicali and Mexico State.

Anniversary themed articles are starting to roll out. Ovaciones has a bunch of articles in a two page section, reprinting a bunch of articles from the 49th Anniversary, including one recapping the first ever EMLL show. Notimex has their own article. SuperLuchas doesn’t go nearly as far back, instead going five years back to the Havana Pitbulls vs Ricky/Volador/Virus at the 70th Anniversary. I don’t know if Bobby Quance is in the Navy Seals or elsewhere, but I hope he’s doing good. He was so great during that stretch.

SuperLuchas has articles on the LA Park show in Chicago last weekend (which has to be a dozen appearances here in the last 5 years), and looks back at Wagner vs Solitario’s mask match.

The WWE SmackDown! to TV Azteca (7) deal was made offical today and reported in a variety of places. 1. “”
    “”

So CMLL is just a stepping stone to get to AAA?

  2. Tix for Friday must be FLYING OFF THE SHELVES since CMLL.com just posted a new graphic saying 50% off any seat bought…

  3. No surprise, 75 anniv has been buiding up to be a disaster, the icing on the cake would be the fat, inamovible Villano V winning, it would cause a big backlash since no one care about them…

Villano XXL was actually on TVC tercera caida last night, he sounded pretty sad, he and IV are not even that old, there’s no excuse for their suckyness… how come CMLL got stuck with them for their supposed biggest show in decades?

  4. CMLL can’t use the “our stars were injured” excuse for not drawing. They have had PLENTY OF TIME to build a number of matches that would be more interesting than this and didn’t deliver. Plus aside from me actually knowing they wanted to do Mistico vs Perrito, they hadn’t even given a single clue that they were heading in that direction. Bad management + bad planning + bad matches + bad build-up = Panther vs Villano with a semi-full house of half-priced tickets.

  5. Even if they are able to paper the place enough to make it seem as a full house, there are still the poor drawing shows leading in and I’m sure the aftermath will be poorly attended as well, they killed any heat Mr Niebla had, so the December show looks just as bad.

  6. There’s even a rumor that the show has been pulled off from PPV. Makes sense since it would make more sense to pay 20 bucks to watch it with your buddies with cheap beer than paying 20 bucks to attend with a single buddy and watching it from afar.

  7. Meanwhile Wagner is taking a BEATING in the thread about Tuesday’s show for dancing his way through the main event.

  8. Are you talking about the thread that says that Rayos Tapatios, Super Commando and Artillero suck? They’ve got way more mentions than Wagner.

  9. Deflecting 101.

Not surprising to see a thread of hate for the guys nobody knows but that forum is usually jerking Wagner off on a daily basis so it’s shocking to see people suddenly surprised that he clowned his way through a match. Have they not been watching since 2004?

  10. There’s actually more hate for Panther, which is pretty odd since CMLL has gone an extreme length to put him over as the sympathetic guy… it’s amazing how, by simply making ‘tico his second, now everyone hates Blue Panther. That ‘tico should go away for good so he stops spoiling everything.

  11. There are more guys saying the Anniversary show is not listed as being PPV on SKY. Maybe WWE bought them off?

  12. CMLL said nothing about it being a PPV on TV, although they’ve done stupid shit like that before.

I can’t wait for Cubs preview of the show tomorrow.

  13. So saying “El Aniversario 75, en vivo y en exclusiva, solo por SKY” is nothing?

I think they will bring it back at 7:50 PM tomorrow. They’re trying to rescue the gate a bit.

  14. @xuisaw: If CMLL said that, and I missed it, then why did you mention “guys” saying it’s not on PPV, if you know better?????????????

  15. Unless I missed something I believe he was just pointing out the “guys” (aka ByL dudes) were saying they couldn’t find it on their systems any more. If he was refering to people in CMLL I’m pretty sure he’d have used the term “idiots”.

  16. I’d like to point out this entry has finally hit the true purpose of open comments – you all make comments, and I follow up with lame jokes. Perfection.

  17. Oh I’ve got a ton of Aniversario comments but I have office work to take care of tomorrow which should take approx. 16 1/2 minutes so I’ve saved up my thoughts to spend the rest of the 7 hours, 43 minutes and 30 seconds typing up.

  18. BTW, are you at all worried that the Cubs are having a miracle week now and may run out of gas by the time October rolls around? I mean… EVERYONE wants them to win so the pressure is multiplied by ten. They’ll probably get every prime time game just b/c they’re the fan favorites and the Yankees won’t be around.

  19. @Rob: Right. He said “guys”, and I assumed too that he meant the byl people. Then he says that CMLL did mention that Anniversary is a PPV. If they did, I didn’t hear it in the commentary, but I’ll go back and listen. Surely, if they said it, it had to be during the nearly twenty minutes of footage on lawagnermania during the Villanos vs. Panther angle this past week. The commercials didn’t mention PPV on SKY.

  20. @Rob: A Cubs vs. Red Sox World Series is what everyone is hoping for. Totally realistic at this point. Still, it would be funny to see Torre win a World Series after getting fired by the Yankees.
