09/11: notes

Rey Bucanero says he found out he was off the Anniversary show by the media calling him up and asking him why he’s off the show. Yay, CMLL ineptitude. (Luchando Libre goes on this point.) Rey’s only briefly quoted but sounds completely confused by this.

Ovaciones has an interview/bio of Villano V, Arturo Rivera’s column (Charly Manson will be a Verano) and the updated anniversary card.

  1. I think Sept. 15th is a major holiday in Mexico hence the Puebla date. Independance Day probably. I always sucked in history class.

SOLOLUCHAS RULES! I was so confused watching that IWRG show as to why someone dressed like that was called himself ‘Jack’. He left his phone # on the website so I could have just called and asked but this is far more efficient.

Poor Rey Bucanero. Should he make friends with Billy Boy?

  2. Wow, thanks for that LuchandoLibre heads up. That article was AWESOME. Someone saying what I’ve been saying… only in Spanish! IT’S BRILLIANT!

Today is the type of day where I hate CMLL. Probably just till I get home and watch the Sin Piedad opener.

  3. @Rob: 16th is the actual independence day, but back in the days of Porfirio Diaz, he started the festivities the previous nights since it was coincidentally, his (Diaz) birthday. The independence movement started on Sept. 16’s morning, but Diaz set the tradition for them to be started on the 15’s 23:00 hours, so many people gather to watch the fireworks and stuff and then the 16th’s morning has a parade but the rest of the day is free, so it makes sense to move the lucha day around.

  4. Who said the words, “Billy Boy is a dope. A dope”?

I think Bucanero in AAA would draw. New opponents like Ciber, La Parka, and others, would be interesting. I just don’t know how fans would treat him. Boo him if he’s a tecnico? Chear his if he’s a rudo? But new opponents would be great for him. He should leave. CMLL should make UG, Atlantis, and Sangre Azteca the top heel trio anyway. Bucanero seems out of place with them.

  5. TVC ssys CMLL Puebla on Sunday at 2. So after one week, it already has a new timeslot. Is CMLL on TVC on youtube yet? Let us know.

  6. The Wagner show went on youtube (at least the Dinafakes, tm Chui) match.

Someone said Puebla aired yesterday MORNING.

  7. Brilliance to air wrestling on a WEEKDAY MORNING.

Next thing you know they’ll air American Idol at 9pm Saturday.

  8. @Rob: I complained about TVC Deportes from the start. All these Spanish sports networks jerk Lucha around for live events, and use Lucha as filler. And when WWE runs 5 or 10 minutes past the hour on Mondays, what will TVC do with their live nightly “TVC Deportes en Vivo” show? I can’t wait until all the problems begin.

Is AAA from Solidaridad airing on Televisa Monterrey?

  9. So Steve Sims is down on AAA?

They need to do a few things to get back on track. That one tv tapings in tizhahapzzi Hidalgo looked so bush league. Their TV needs to be two hours. Maybe just ninety minutes. They have to not air the big shows on free tv. Better saved for PPV and/or DVD. That’s how you make money. Cut down on the ECW/CZW style. Other than that, I still find it watchable.

  10. If WWE does better than AAA and CMLL in the ratings, WWE will be quick to get the word out.

  11. I’ve been wishing for Rey to join AAA forever. He would blend in with no problems.

As for Steve Sims, did he point out AAA and CMLL was losing money? Because that is one argument no one has been able to make. AAA and CMLL is still turning a profit. If you don’t lose money, you will most likely NOT go out of business. Common Sense

  12. Rey should become an independent like Intocable or Wagner. Isn’t La Diabolica the mother of his Kid and aren’t they going through a bitter divorce? I’m sure that would be strange if they were together in AAA. He should have gone to AAA years ago.

  13. @USAUSA1: I don’t think CMLL is losing money. I’m wondering about AAA. Some of these tv tapings are coming from really small places lately. Not selling out Palacio after talking about it for over a decade, empty seats for tv at Sala De Armas in the DF. None of us want AAA to go under. I think they will cut back first.

Is there a link to Sims on WON, or is it subscription only?

  14. @luchalibrelive!: Its subscription only. When he referred to AAA being similar to WCW, it was moreso the backstage situation and politicking going on and not so much about the money. He did mention that both AAA and CMLL haven’t had problems money-wise since a lot of the guys who have quit AAA recently have been trying to get back into AAA because they just realized there wasn’t any money to be made in the independents.

  15. Neither AAA nor CMLL are losing money, but the promoters are, just look at the dozens of shows drawing poorly all over the country, no one in Torreon nor Nuevo Laredo wants to have anything to do with CMLL anymore since they don’t deliver at the box office. AAA is doing fine since they do better and cost very cheap, but the tendency will be to go down even more. I think CMLL is having packed Puebla shows because they’re simply unable to book their guys elsewhere.

Economy is doing pretty bad, I was talking with some dudes from Torreon last week and they say that even the National Fair (which is mostly free) is empty as no one is attending with the cost of living going through the roof and drug dealers waging war all over the place over there (here in Nvo Laredo is supposed to be worse but I’ve just seen soldiers running around and not really any shoot out).

At least for a couple of years, the shows will survive on TV income and tiny spot shows mostly, as the gates keep in the downward spiral, the economy might do better in 2011 since the government has to improve it in order to try to keep the power at the 2012 elections.

  16. @xuisaw: when AAA promoters lose money, and stop buying shows, it becomes a problem. Notice, some AAA tapings have come from some very small venues lately, and they went back to Solidaridad fast. CMLL falls back on their real estate assets, while AAA struggles to find marks to buy shows.

  17. @Anonymous:

and that’s why i love coming here! in the 2 plus years i’ve been lurking, i’ve learned a new sport, picked up (a bit of) a new language, learned about another culture…it’s like travelling without even leaving the country!

    Gracias!!!
