There’s some people missing from the original lineup (Tzuki!) so perhaps things got shuffled around. There’s definitely another match next week, with the winners meeting on the 23rd. In the prematch photos, Cosmico is standing with the rudos. Could’ve just been to keep it six and six.

Lots of coverage on the WWE moving RAW to Galavision. They’ll be on Channel 9 in Mexico City, which is the channel which broadcasts CMLL and AAA, and they’ll be on at Sunday at 3pm, which is when AAA usually starts. The show will start on October 5th, which means the rest of this month will be normal before a new schedule kicks in. It doesn’t appear anyone mentioned what that new schedule will be, and Televisa said they haven’t decided who will announce the show. (Will they get to choose?) I’ve read elsewhere that it’ll be 1 hour, but it doesn’t seem to be in the press release. It does sound like Shane McMahon told the press that they’ll have a RAW in Mexico at some point, and the carrot on a stick of a PPV was brought out as usual.

For WWE, this is moving RAW from a network said to have under a million viewers (52MX) to one with 21 million viewers, though the difference wasn’t nearly as before Televisa’s associated cable/satellite systems dropped 52MX. For Televisa, they got a, uh, World Heavyweight Title with “Televisa” on the name plate. (Also, theortically higher ratings.)

Batista is quoted as saying the fans of Mexico will like WWE, because the US style has better athletes and they have the best Mexican wrestler. I guess Batista is going to be a rudo in Mexico?

Rey Misterio was asked if he thinks the guys in Mexico (specifically Mistico) who do his moves are ripping him off. He disagreed, saying it’s a homage and a sign of respect.

Mr. Reyes @ el Martiente

Rey Bucanero says he was just as surprised to find out he was defending his title vs X-Pac on the anniversary show as everyone else was. Bucanero says he and X-Pac wrestled in Japan – when? Is this something I should know am blanking out, or old Lightning Kid matches? Anyway, Rey’s looking forward to the opportunity to prove himself at an international level.

Okumura says he was taking pain pills to deal with his shoulder injury, but he felt something strange in his shoulder and got it looked it again. The screws in his shoulder moved (ow!), which is why they had to redo the surgery. In this interview, CMLL doctor says it’ll be 2 to 3 weeks before they can check to see how it’s healing this time and decide the next step. Okumura plans on getting revenge on Fabian for all of this.

Rayo de Jalisco says he’s going to Japan from 09/11 to 10/05, including defending his championship on 09/22. Who’s he wrestling for?

Wagnermania posted video of this week’s Stellar Moments and Ras de Lona’s match results of the week.

MT looks back at the last 17 years of Anniversary shows. Things I didn’t know
– the final fall of Atlantis/Emilio NWA LH title match in ’90 went 5 seconds
– the ’97 anniversary featured Lola Gonzalez’s retirement

They have slightly different dates than what we have in the wiki for a couple anniversary – it’s not the wrong date, it’s MT saying the week before or the week after (or two weeks) were the anniversary show. I think I was often just guessing based on what looked like the anniversary show for the modern results, so they may be more accurate.

Blue Demon Jr. hypes the second NWA Mexico show on YouTube. Of course.

Latin Lover’s wife is interviewed on Univision. Mostly so she can do a lot of “no, he’s still with me” responses.

Mr. Reyes posted photos of the DTU show. Taking bumps onto cactus is at least amsuing in it’s sillyness.

Box Y Lucha #2887 has Scorpio’s recovery on the cover. If they’re taking requests about articles to put on the website, I sure would like the Atomic Boy one.

The Gladiatores are broadcasting Thursday and Sunday’s IWRG shows on their website.

90 thoughts to “09/10: Naucalpan, Puebla, Mexico, WWE”

  1. Villanos are nowhere near of being legends. Ray Mendoza was a legend and Villano III is pretty successful but even then he was always in semis and not considered at Canek and the rest of main eventers’ level, save for a few dates where he jobbed.

Rest of Villanos, no way jose. The Villanos vs Brazos masks match was one of the biggest bombs at the box office and it actually helped Brazos more than Villanos, who never had any major run in an important promotion not run by their daddy.

Villanos history at ArMex is nearly nonexistent, Villano V has no merit to be in the anniversary at all, it would be a fine mask match for a Coliseo 75 anniversary semis or especial slot, but CMLL was unable to deliver a big mask match and was stuck with this. Even Ultimo Guerrero vs either guy would have made the match bigger, but CMLL can not beat this old guys’ ego.

  2. Villanos vs. Brazos in Mexico City would not have bombed. Wasn’t that match just thrown together at the last minute. I think the trio Villanos is legendary in Lucha. I agree Brazos benefitted. I even saw their three-way hair at ArMex in 1995.

  3. UWA didn’t want to run the match because they knew it was going to bomb. Had it been taken place in Mexico… who knows, but the fact is it bombed. As a trio they have that win over Brazos, which was not really a big deal since Ray Mendoza is in the lucha pantheon while Shadito Cruz is one of those guys who’s sons were waaay better than him.

Brazos actually got better from being unmasked since they could have several feuds for hair matches and they were interesting for them being possible to have any brazo balded. Right now, looking back, Brazos are much a bigger deal than Villanos trio,

The V other feud was the generic evil gringos thing. They were never top draws for Toreo as a trio (not even in the same league as Misioneros, Fantasticos, etc), and neither were known for having any huge drawing run for ArMex or AAA.

Nothing can be said in favor of the Villanos trio being legendary, and even less for Villano V.

  4. Most important thing here is to call which is gonna be canned first, the Azteca show or the Televisa one…

I’m thinking WWE is paying for being aired, so they’ll survive at least more than the 2 weeks Azteca would normally give them.

  5. Puebla is supposed to be airing right now, nothing is on. I wanna see just how bad the locals are… hehehe

  6. No way WWE is paying to be on tv in Mexico. WWE stopped paying for tv time in 1996 and never looked back. Do you really think Televisa would have this big press conference for an infomercial?

I’ll bet WWE gets the same ratings as the Simpsons on Azteca 7. Not sure about Galavision, but they should do about the same or better than AAA.

What got you into this “pay for play” way of thinking with Lucha and TV in Mexico?

  7. We know. WWE.

Who went to Televisa offices? Shane. Or was it Emilio going all the way to Connecticut? Nope.

  8. We have no way of knowing the terms in which WWE went to Mexico to hold a Televisa exclusive press conference. If it was a generic press conference announcing Televisa, Azteca, and TVC, I’d guess WWE paid. But this was specifically for Televisa, so who knows.

  9. Can’t wait to see what 52mx does without WWE. Expand GdR to two hours? Expand RdL to one hour? I think they’ll do something. I’d go to two hours from Arena Coliseo, expand RdL to one hour, and make FSE a show with one exclusive match and footage from GdR.

  10. Well, Puebla wasn’t anything special, kind of a 2 hours FSE deal but a bit better for having Corleone and Lizzy doing a one fall match. Crowd was not into the main event at all so I don’t really understand why they sticked out to the finish at all.

  11. Kinda ACM. The ring didn’t have any publicity, which seems odd. Show had no commercials as well save own TVC stuff. I guess they’ll have it around to see if sponsors jump ship.

  12. @Rob:

lol – try it without the quotes.

{to note: defamation law, which includes libel and slander, is a developing area of law when it comes to the internet. the courts still have to play catch up with today’s technology. libel laws were created pre-blog era, so there are no set precedents at the moment. you’ll find cases for both sides, though more on the side of those victimized.

here’s an example closer to home: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080428/hortons_lawsuit_080428?s_name=&no_ads=

if you’re really curious, go on the Canadian court websites. Buzz words to search: libel, defamation, slander, blog, etc.

    hope that helps.}

  13. @luchalibrelive!: You’re saying all this stupid shit about how in Mexico they’ll kidnap and torture a kid without thinking twice. That stuff happens all over the world, so don’t be making Mexico out to be a criminal haven becaue you’re just showing how un-educated you really are.

  14. I bet you’d like to kidnap Lover and poke him in the butt.

Don’t bury your head in the sand(or Lover’s lap) and pretend kidnappings are not an issue in Mexico.

  15. Come 6 months from now a libel lawsuit may be the only thing left to keep Vamp’s name in the news…

But please carry on Daniel vs Keith. This is just starting to heat up! Dueling libel lawsuits~!

  16. Why? It won’t be hard to prove kidnappings in Mexico on my part. And we have Daniel’s posts on Lover, so we know what his intentions are with him.

  17. What does that have to do with Kidnappings in Mexico? Now your just laying on the personal attacks. Who are you, John Mccain?

  18. @luchalibrelive!: I’ve never expressed a homosexual interest towards Latin Lover, but nice try.

You’ve probably never even been to Mexico nor do you know anything about it other than what you hear from other ingnaramases.

Kidnappings happen everywhere in the world, it’s not specific to Mexico. If you listen to the media, you can argue that the USA is plagued with kidappings as well.

  19. @Tim: McCain? It’s the dems who are running ads in Florida bashing McCain and his wife. I am registered to vote in Florida so that I can vote in a state where my candidate, McCain, can win. This way my vote is not wasted. Obama seems like he’s going to lose.

  20. @luchalibrelive!: Yeah you’ve been there more than a dozen times just like how you were planning on going to see Triplemania 2207 but changed your mind becaue Latin Lover was on the card, and just like how you were gonna go now for CMLL but changed your mind becaue of the kiddnappings. You’re full of crap.

By the way, why do you assume I’m sexually attracted to Latin Lover just because I’m a fan of his? Is it because YOU are sexually attracted to him, so you assume that everybody else is?

  21. Doesn’t 100%Lucha beat WWE on a regular basis in tv ratings in Argentina? In matter of fact, WWE embrace the company as an ally. Maybe AAA should try to become friends with the WWE(since they have the Rey connection), that way everytime WWE comes to Mexico, AAA will be involve somehow.

  22. I live in Florida and I haven’t seen one ad where Obama mentions Mccain’s wife. And there are TONS of Mccain ads. And how can you be the voice of the Mexican people and vote for that guy? Oh well, that’s for another blog.

I wouldn’t mind a AAA/WWE partnership. It could help AAA with expanding to America.

  23. GOD’s love shines through even in the ugliest of situations:

It was at the end of a road trip to southern California. At the time, I collected international dolls in their traditional costumes. It was late afternoon and I really wanted a doll from Mexico. We decided to cross the Tijuana border to get it. The sun was just starting to set, so we thought it was still safe to go in before dark.

We all split up and started searching the shops along the border (Mexico side). We ended getting blankets/shawls, etc., but we couldn’t find the doll.

By then the sun had set. All of a sudden, two rough-looking guys (one with a glove and brass knuckles) started to follow us. The lady who had just sold us a leather handbag saw what was happening and quickly ushered us back into her shop. We told her that there were more of us, and she ushered them in too.

She then hailed a taxi, said something to the driver, and then gently, but quickly, pushed us into the cab.

We got back over the border shaken, but safe. To this day, we still don’t understand why the poor taxi driver kept turning around and looked at us, just as frightened as we were.

Didn’t end there, though. When we got back to our vehicle, the windows had been smashed.

Still, we were all safe, alive, and nothing else mattered.

GOD places people in our lives for a reason. We were/still are so humbled and grateful that GOD protected us by giving us the privilege to meet that earth angel/shop keeper.

As frightened as we were, I’m glad we crossed into Mexico. We would have otherwise never have experienced just how deeply GOD loved us and blessed us that day.

We still have that leather handbag. It reminds us of, through JESUS, how beautiful mankind really is.

We still think about our earth angel, and the cab driver too. I hope they are as blessed today as we were during our beautiful Tijuana experience.

  24. @Tim: The Frorida DNC ran an ad knocking Cindy McCain. This was after Obama asked that everyone “lay off the wives”. I’m so lucky I’m voting in Florida.

What does voting for McCain have to do with Mexicans?

  25. Oh yes Keith, So lucky to vote in a state that doesn’t count all the votes and has voting machines with no paper trail and messes up half the time.
