There’s some people missing from the original lineup (Tzuki!) so perhaps things got shuffled around. There’s definitely another match next week, with the winners meeting on the 23rd. In the prematch photos, Cosmico is standing with the rudos. Could’ve just been to keep it six and six.
Lots of coverage on the WWE moving RAW to Galavision. They’ll be on Channel 9 in Mexico City, which is the channel which broadcasts CMLL and AAA, and they’ll be on at Sunday at 3pm, which is when AAA usually starts. The show will start on October 5th, which means the rest of this month will be normal before a new schedule kicks in. It doesn’t appear anyone mentioned what that new schedule will be, and Televisa said they haven’t decided who will announce the show. (Will they get to choose?) I’ve read elsewhere that it’ll be 1 hour, but it doesn’t seem to be in the press release. It does sound like Shane McMahon told the press that they’ll have a RAW in Mexico at some point, and the carrot on a stick of a PPV was brought out as usual.
For WWE, this is moving RAW from a network said to have under a million viewers (52MX) to one with 21 million viewers, though the difference wasn’t nearly as before Televisa’s associated cable/satellite systems dropped 52MX. For Televisa, they got a, uh, World Heavyweight Title with “Televisa” on the name plate. (Also, theortically higher ratings.)
Batista is quoted as saying the fans of Mexico will like WWE, because the US style has better athletes and they have the best Mexican wrestler. I guess Batista is going to be a rudo in Mexico?
Rey Misterio was asked if he thinks the guys in Mexico (specifically Mistico) who do his moves are ripping him off. He disagreed, saying it’s a homage and a sign of respect.

Rey Bucanero says he was just as surprised to find out he was defending his title vs X-Pac on the anniversary show as everyone else was. Bucanero says he and X-Pac wrestled in Japan – when? Is this something I should know am blanking out, or old Lightning Kid matches? Anyway, Rey’s looking forward to the opportunity to prove himself at an international level.
Okumura says he was taking pain pills to deal with his shoulder injury, but he felt something strange in his shoulder and got it looked it again. The screws in his shoulder moved (ow!), which is why they had to redo the surgery. In this interview, CMLL doctor says it’ll be 2 to 3 weeks before they can check to see how it’s healing this time and decide the next step. Okumura plans on getting revenge on Fabian for all of this.
Rayo de Jalisco says he’s going to Japan from 09/11 to 10/05, including defending his championship on 09/22. Who’s he wrestling for?
Wagnermania posted video of this week’s Stellar Moments and Ras de Lona’s match results of the week.
MT looks back at the last 17 years of Anniversary shows. Things I didn’t know
– the final fall of Atlantis/Emilio NWA LH title match in ’90 went 5 seconds
– the ’97 anniversary featured Lola Gonzalez’s retirement
They have slightly different dates than what we have in the wiki for a couple anniversary – it’s not the wrong date, it’s MT saying the week before or the week after (or two weeks) were the anniversary show. I think I was often just guessing based on what looked like the anniversary show for the modern results, so they may be more accurate.
Blue Demon Jr. hypes the second NWA Mexico show on YouTube. Of course.
Latin Lover’s wife is interviewed on Univision. Mostly so she can do a lot of “no, he’s still with me” responses.
Mr. Reyes posted photos of the DTU show. Taking bumps onto cactus is at least amsuing in it’s sillyness.
Box Y Lucha #2887 has Scorpio’s recovery on the cover. If they’re taking requests about articles to put on the website, I sure would like the Atomic Boy one.
The Gladiatores are broadcasting Thursday and Sunday’s IWRG shows on their website.
