08/30: Shocker, notes from last night, IWRG, lineup

Has Shocker left CMLL again? Well, yea, that seemed pretty likely when CMLL couldn’t come up with a specific injury to explain his ‘injury’ absence for this week of shows. Cesar comparing Shocker and CMLL to Nicho and AAA is pretty dead on.

Articles on last night’s show
SuperLuchas has match times. I’d think it’d be harder to work a singles match that was two short falls and one really long fall. Obviously they disagree, because the mask match is sure not the first time CMLL’s done that.

La Aficion writes dramatically about the mask match.

ESTO states the CMLL crew will put up it’s Trios titles vs the TNA crew in a month, which I’m not sure is that guaranteed. The latest Wrestling Observer says there’s been negotiations for the UG/Shelley mask vs hair match instead but the two sides haven’t decided on the cost. (The same Observer says Mistico’s injury might not be as feared, and he might be back in 9 weeks (early November?)

Meanwhile, Amapola is blaming her loss on a hip injury, and Mictlan saying he’s might be better off without a mask. Way to sell the defeat.

Here, as everywhere else, Micltan’s listed as a 9 year vet. CMLL.com says 10. Rounding error?

Medio Tiempo says AJ Styles missed the show after having an infection in the mouth after being operated on. What?

Steve Sims says Arena Mexico was half full. Notimex notes the show did not have “the expected attendance.” No party.

– Kcids has a visual reenactment of Dragon Rojo Jr., Triumphant. Even if it’s just a head swap, you’ve got to give him credit for having the Micltan version ready too.

Tickers are on sale for 09/16’s Anniversary Show (“Blue Panther vs Villano V”). They go from 200 ($19.5) to 1400 ($136.5). Panther vs Villano alone isn’t filling that building at the price, for sure.

IWRG (THU) 08/28 Arena Naucalpan [Alvin @ el Martinete
1) Halcon 2000 b Dinamita Kid
2) Cyborg & Miss Gavitoa b Epidemia & Heavy Boy
3) Black Terry, Capitán Muerte, Xibalva b Aeroman, Fenix, Freelance
4) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro b Cerebro Negro, Dr. Cerebro, Fantasma de la Ópera [EdM TRIOS]
5) El Dandy, Hijo del Cien Caras, Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Monsther DQ Mano Negra, Mano Negra Jr., Pantera, Ultramán Jr.

Mano Negra got caught fouling in the main event.

Black Terry replaces Hijo de Anibal on today’s NWA Mexico card. ESTO does spell Albright and Pearce’s name correct, yay for them. The Reforma story, not so much. I have no doubt there will be results around tomorrow for the show because the magazines are covering it at the same level as one of Dragon’s Toryumon show.

Jazzo posted a bunch of other Reforma stories, including
the most detailed description of Scorpio Jr.’s health problems I’ve seen so far. Everyone’s still saying he’s not out of danger yet but things are getting better.
Zumbido is aiming for a January 2009 return to CMLL. He says he’s talking to people in the booking office but not yet to Paco Alonso, and he’s all “I never should’ve left CMLL.” I think he was totally better of leaving to go to AAA when he did but that’s not the thing you want to say right now
Solar sure hopes he doesn’t lose his mask this Sunday in the big 10 man mask/hair match. I am so glad for this interview, if only for reminding me to go lock Super Calo’s wiki profile.

Wrestling elsewhere: Argentina’s 100% Lucha has a big show today, following up on it’s movie release. UK’s Guardian writes about the Cholitas in Boliva.

Luchaworld has 2006 52MX, ’06 GDL, Lucha Libre Azteca, and ’05 AAA (1) (2) recaps from Rob as well as KrisZ’s news from Friday.

Random indy wrestler “Horus” gets a Notimex article. There’s something I’m missing there.

A show in Nuevo Laredo may be canceled tomorrow because someone stole the ring.

CMLL (TUE) 09/02 Arena Mexico
1) Molotov & Trueno vs Apocalipsis & Inquisidor
2) Ángel Azteca Jr., Angel de Oro, Hijo del Faraon vs Halcon Negro, Loco Max, Nitro
3) Axel, Felino, Máscara Púrpura vs Euforia, Nosferatu, Satánico
4) Lizmark Jr., Olímpico, Rey Bucanero vs Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Texano Jr. and Heavy Metal, Mr. Niebla, Negro Casas and Blue Panther, La Sombra, Marco Corelone [torneo]

Yes, Felino is just randomly back on the tecnico side after randomly being on the rudo side. Best guess is they wanted to get him an extra payday on Friday. This is the monthly fan appreciation show and I guess the tournament is part of that.

No Friday lineup when I checked, which sure is odd.

80 thoughts to “08/30: Shocker, notes from last night, IWRG, lineup”

  1. Hopefully it starts working again in time for the Marvin tag. I can live without the mixed tag.

  2. NotiAAA had nothing new save saying Pirata will be in Spain during VdE and Evans cutting a promo.

    I guess it will be:

    Minis final

Apaches vs Morenos (a sister will return?)

HF2 vs Aerostar/SuperFLy vs Mexipows vs FTj for the tag title

Vampiro vs Messias for the WSX?

    Chessman vs Ciber

  3. Man the feed is really unhealthy today. Why work during yesterday’s shitty CMLL and not today?

  4. I thought Marvin was working Mty, but I was wrong. I wonder if AAA started an hour earlier to allow fans to watch it in full before going to Soli.

  5. ByL just updated their lineups and also have no Arena Mex show on Sunday + neither SL or ByL have the Sunday lineup which they usually do.

  6. Ugh, I’m giving up. The feed just keeps freezing every 2 minutes and you need to restart it.

  7. Konnan, Electro, surprise wrestler…

It’s actually Kenzo, Electro and surprise wrestler.

  8. Aerostar nearly killed himself with a dive early in the match and then spent the rest of it being checked by the doctor, they still carried the intended ending with Aero crawling to the ring to pull a package for the pin before taken out to the locker… let’s see if SuperFly has better luck…

  9. Play the feed in internet explorer and it will freeze, play it in firefox and it will work fine.

  10. “You know what? I’m thinking CMLL isn’t running Arena Mexico next week.”

…or… they just lost the hat!

  11. The hat is in Panico’s pants. He keeps asking Mictlan to come get it but Mictlan refuses so the company is at a standstill…

What dive did Aero Star do? Please tell me he didn’t try that same crazy inverted 360 from the Alas De Oro…

  12. It was a tope suicida, not even a “torpedo” or maybe he felt he was off target and used his hand and ended in the crowd, or maybe he knew that he was going to be killed like Super Fly did (who also got to do nothing but a surprise huracarrana for the win) and played possum.

  13. well, it seems it was much worse than simply not throwing a party. I think they didn’t release the card right away because they’re desperately seeking to make something big, probably try to make someone like Zorro or even Banderas in. I doubt Latin Lover would be the right move, not only he’s too expensive for CMLL’s ways, but he works just across the street, so any die hard fan wanting to see him live, has already done so for free.

Another option would be trying to sign that Shelly thing, they would need to do the title match this Friday for the mask vs hair thing to be set for the anniv.

  14. This is the most interesting soap opera in a while. Yes, more than the Guapos deal. CMLL hasn’t missed a Friday @ Arena Mexico since January 1, 2006 if I recall correctly. To do so b/c of an awful crowd for a big show would be one of the biggest stories of the year. I’m gonna guess they come up with some excuse about why they can’t run Arena Mexico for the next two weeks and do the next few shows at Arena Coliseo except for the Tuesday shows.

It can’t be just a problem of not knowing the lineup yet b/c even when they don’t know the lineup they give a list of wrestlers to the magazines to print so everyone knows there is a show.

  15. First part was missing.

50% seems like it, parts of the arena were not even opened, and the bleachers were said to be 80%, but that’s where the kids were entering for free, so it could be estimated that it had 3/5 of the attendance for that part were kids not paying, with scalpers underpricing the tickets as the show had begun (long rumored that scalpers are kind of the un-official box office).

CMLL won’t ever lose money as they pay according to the gate, but it surely made them concerned for the anniversary show as they can’t show their pimpy ass to the world with a similar turnaround for that show.

  16. More than Guapos but less than Guapito. I say, 0.9 in Guapito’s scale. Show will take place on ArMex no matter what, heck, even with another 30 pesos tag.

  17. Well the inflated prices are b/c the rich people come to Arena Mexico to see the “stars”, not to see a wrestling show. I’d be worried b/c two of the stars are out and the other isn’t going to be in the main match unless they pay Niebla and fast. I don’t think those rich people are going to pay money for a Panther/Villano mask match. It’s not a “must-see match” to them. Sure, it’s a must-see match to wrestling fans who understand the tradition of Lucha Libre but for the pretty girls who get taken by the rich dudes that want to get laid by getting front row seats, it’s not really an event worth going to.

    CMLL better be worried.

  18. It’s a place holder, I guess they could have Corleone turning on CMLL next week and turn the CMLL trios title match into an 8 man cage match. Or maybe 10 men if they use styles and Sonjay…

But I’m really feeling they have no clue as to what the anniversary will have.

  19. Well, today’s TV show had a big tent so maaaaybe rain won’t be that bad, so unless prices are CMLL’s anniversariesque, I’ll be there.

Weird that RFC preferred to got to a dumb indy show instead of the Soli taping. No results for the 10 men cage match either…
