07/25-27 Lucha Times

chart

Three CMLL Minis matches should make air this week. (Actually four, but no one’s getting both Fox Sports.) Plus, the AAA minis turn up in on Mexico’s AAA airing. Meanwhile, the only women who turn up are in one mixed tag. I dunno what it means.

AAA-US: post TripleMania – Ozz vs Chessman, Legion vs tecnicos, Morenos return

CAN52: Mini Violencia/Warrior/Pierroth vs Dorado/Dragon/Shocker + sorta-High Society vs sorta-Pesta Negra

FSE-US: Bam Bam/Dorado/Olimpico vs Mini FdT

—-

CMLL: listed at 1:45, but who knows if they’ll get in more than the Gran Prix and Mistico/Perro

AAA-MEX: #1 contenders match, and the AAAs Mini tournament starts

FSE-MEX: Minis match, Alex/Shadow/Volador vs Warrior/Olimpico/Sangre

Cadena3: Trios champs in action

LyC: Hator/Herodea/Tineiblas vs Aventuerero/Romo/Tigre

  1. usually, during soccer season, CMLL gets 1:45 as it’s the lead-in to soccer, which starts this weekend. CMLL goes off fifteen minutes before the hour to allow Televisa commentators to the pre-game.

  2. Black Plague

Chessy is turning, they’ve been working on that so no one cares, they need to turn someone like the long talked about turns of Konnan, Roldan, Mesias, or in CMLL, Atlantis to work, these turns work much better when they don’t give any hint of them happening.

  3. “Chessy”. That’s a good one Chuy. It would’ve meant something a year ago with Chessman vs. Cibernetico. Still, a hair match between the two would be a good main/stip match for a PPV.

  4. Mesias turning tecnico was one of the many unfounded rumors that was brought up over and over again for a while after the Legion-Secta split.

Chessman vs Ciber in a hair match would work but just as a CMLLesque way, they probably want to do something that would last for 6 months or more, if Chessman looses his hair fast, there would be not much for Chessman to do next.

  5. Well they could drag out Ciber/Chessman to when Charly comes back and picks a side.

  6. I get the feeling Chui is saying the Atlantis, Konnan and Roldan turns will happen the day Wagner proves he is a draw.

  7. Wagner is a draw. He’d be a merch phenom if a company like WWE was behind him. Perro vs. Wagner seemed to have a bigger crowd than any AAA show could draw in DF. And AAA comes to town on a semi-decade basis.

  8. If Wagner was any sort of draw he should have had NO PROBLEM selling out vs Perrito. I guess Perrito is the problem?

  9. Right, Atlantis, Konnan and Roldan will turn years ago…

I’d like to see Roldan turn since they could take the title from Ciber without having him to actually job and they could do some interesting things with Zorro vs Mesias, Zorro vs Chessman, Chessman vs Mesias, heck, even Zorro vs Electroshock or something like that, and Abismo of course, if he ever comes back. But to say “anyone not seeing Roldan is turing on Konnnan at AAAMania knows nothing about lucha” just because WWF did something like that makes no sense when AAA never has hinted that Roldan will turn.

Konnan and Atlantis MIGHT turn someday, but every lineup producing “they’re turning” predictions has grown old.

  10. Actually I said Atlantis would turn soon and time will still tell. I said Roldan would turn at TM, I was wrong. I said Konnan would turn within the year so I have half the year left.

Since I’m too impatient for Cubs to update – AAA.com has the Toluca lineup and it’s AWFUL. Like… worst taping of the year potential. And something screwy is going on in the mini’s title tournament unless they left a match off the lineup but I can’t even think of two other mini’s on the roster who could still enter the tournament.

  11. @Rob: Why does the show have to sellout to be a success? They had a big crowd, just after running the Atlantis show, and having other big shows in the market. Plus, Televisa has fucked with their timeslot and running time. Once again, Arena Mexico/CMLL is on pace to be the second most attended promotion in the world behind WWE.

  12. If you put 2 of your 3 biggest stars in a match where the stipulation states the winner meets the other big star in the company – how is it even remotely possible that doesn’t sellout? I await the laundry list of excuses.

  13. They drew a big gate. Didn’t they have 13,000 people? That’s a good turnout. I wouldn’t expect that match to sellout though.

  14. I’ve been to many WWE shows over the years. Many shows headlined by Hogan. I’ve seen Hogan vs. Flair at MSG not sellout, but almost sellout, and didn’t leave the venue saying that they’re not a draw because it wasn’t sold out.

People don’t want to give CMLL credit, not knowing how hard it is to run weekly in a 15,000 seat venue, with Coliseo shows as well.

  15. Hogan/Flair had been run to death. This was Perrito/Wagner’s first ever singles meeting in Arena Mexico. What other match would have drawn a sellout?

  16. Perrillo vs Wagner has been done a gazillion times, being a plain old singles matches doesn’t chage a thing, they’ve face off in trios lots of times. A stipulation to get a stipulation doesn’t mean anything. Besides, no one cared for the undercard, had they done the Gran Prix last week, maybe they would have done better because of the Mexico vs US angle, but last week was a big draw by current standards, we are not in 2006 anymore.

  17. Hogan/Flair had never met at MSG, Spectrum, Maple Leaf, Cap Centre, or any of the venues they didn’t sellout. But they did solid business, and it was not a disappoinment for WWE.

but back to Perro/Wagner, I didn’t expect them to sellout, only draw a big crowd. Wagner could be a bigger draw than Mistico and Perro now. I don’t know. I hope to see for myself in September, although four days is not a lot of time.

  18. so ever since the preempted episode of CMLL on Televisa, 52mx has not aired any Friday footage? What have they been showing?

  19. @Rob: I was not sure since Cubs can’t get 52mx anymore.
So 52mx is main event from Sunday Coliseo and semi-main from Arena Mexico Friday. FSE is semi-main and tercera from Sunday Coliseo. Segunda and primera Sunday don’t make tv.

  20. I’d show at least the final falls in the segunda and tercera and complete semimain for FSE. Like MSG Classics showing three matches in an hour.

Really, it should be 52mx airs a two-hour show complete from Coliseo Sunday, and FSE should be magazine format with the semi from ArMex as the “exclusive” to attract people to the show.
