07/22: IWRG, AAA notes

Don’t have much time today, so I’m zooming thru this and hoping I didn’t miss anything big.

IWRG (SUN) 07/20 Arena Naucalpan [Sololuchas via KrisZ]
1) Destello & Eragon b Comando Gama & Judas el Traidor
2) Crazy Star & Enigmatica b Fugitiva & Tormenta
3) Black Terry, Oficial 911, Oficial Fierro b Coco Verde, Cocochips, Cocolores
4) Negro Navarro, Septiembre el Terrorista, Veneno b Centauro, Cinclon Gonzalez, Super Astro
5) Multifacético, Rayo de Jalisco Jr., Super Calo b El Hijo del Solitario, Hijo del Cien Caras, Máscara Año 2000

Rayo and Solitario teased a never-going-to-happen mask match.

Semirelated: Hablando de Catch posted photos from inside Arena Naucalpan.

Some additional notes from the AAA taping, from their own results:

Zorro wanted to wrestle, but could not provide proof he was cleared to wrestle, so Roldan banned him.
Super Porky is sad because he’s lost so much lately. (He’s lost 3 matches in a row. Eh.)
– No mention of how many wins the Psycho Circus is at now, but they’re still undefeated.

Segments were 5 minutes each, which sounds unreasonable long. It may have just been for the first few eliminations. Match went:

Start: Mesias and La Parka
Ozz entered
Black Abyss entered
Black Abyss went out by La Parka
Alan Stone entered
Joe Lider entered
Ozz went out by La Parka
Zorro made his entrance, was not allowed to wrestle, and Konnan hit the ring
Konnan threw out everyone but Mesais, but this didn’t count for some reason and so everyone came back in
Kenzo and Head Hunter entered together
Alan and Lider got Head Hunter out
Mesais got Alan out
Kenzo “german suplexed Joe Lider out of the ring”
Parka got Kenzo
Chessman entered
Mesias yanked Parka’s mask enroute to throwing him out
Chessman threw out Mesias to win the match.

AAA also reposted it’s calender section, including lineups with all the events. There’s probably something interesting in here if I had time to look – later? (The RSS links? STILL DO NOT WORK.)

This week’s Figure Four Weekly says Friday’s Arena Mexico show – I don’t know if you remember, but it’s the one with Perro and Wagner in the main event – drew a disappointing 14,500. Who do you want to blame? Or should you just wait until this upcoming Friday’s attendance and get some more evidence?

Don’t worry, Rayo de Jalisco Jr. says he’s coming back to Arena Mexico in October. I remember him giving out return dates before which didn’t happen, so wait to panic. It would figure to have some bring back the legends show in the new couple of months. Rayo did miss the Lucha Libre London/Spain tour, which may or may not be connected.

(Solowrestling via SuperLuchas) The poster – visible on the SuperLuchas link only for me – for the CMLL Spain tour is pretty cool. The roster info, not so totally accurate but it doesn’t matter.

Oaxacan artists talk about work they’ve done for the 75th Annivesray, which will be displayed in Arena Mexico starting in August.

Box Y Lucha #2880 has Perro pinning Wagner, with the headline asking if he’ll join the Perros. There’s articles talking about a couple past Gran Alternativa winners – Misterioso II talks about being a success (need to change the wiki!*), Tigre Blanco is accused of not being one.

*- No, don’t really

Cesar @ Box Y Luchas says Shocker may be turning rudo again.

Today’s Video: DTU posted video from it’s Lucha Libre Expo Main Event: Crazy Boy/Generico & Joe Lider/Shiima Xion. Other DTU wrestlers do interviews.

SuperLuchas also has a post on Lucha Libre in Peru that I need to take a closer look at when I have time. If someone ever wanted an easy, singluar way to contribute to the luchawiki, adding information about lucha libre in other Latin American counties whenever it pops up here would work. It’s in the Things I Mean To Do But Never Do pile.

Ovaciones isn’t working for me today. I think it’s them, unless someone’s been downgrading Adobe Flash on my computers without telling me.

  1. LuchalibreUSA billed equal to AAA reminds me of IWC and AAA having equal billing.

I wonder what language the AAA taped PPV will be in. Ad on luchalibreusa.com is in English, so I think it will be in English. Can’t see InDemand running English language ads for a Spanish language PPV.

  2. “This week’s Figure Four Weekly says Friday’s Arena Mexico show – I don’t know if you remember, but it’s the one with Perro and Wagner in the main event – drew a disappointing 14,500.”

That’s pretty much what the cage match show from last month drew, so I don’t understand why they’re saying disappointing here, I wonder if they blame the lack of TV and they worked out things so the 2 hours return…

  3. @xuisaw: I’d think it’s because

    – singles match is a better draw should be bigger than a multi man cage match
    – Perro vs Wagner is 2 of the Top 5* wrestlers in a match that hasn’t been done

    * – just a rough guess, don’t kill me

  4. I’m shocked there was even a single empty seat. That was a big match with two of the top three in the promotion. How do you NOT sellout with that? I really can’t answer that. I can answer the following question though: How do you not sellout the rematch between those two? Answer: Watch the finish of the match from this past Friday.

That’s the second surprising attendance news I’ve read this week. Hearing AAA couldn’t sellout Solidaridad was shocking to me. Seeing a photo to back the claim up was just as shocking. Soli is TINY.

  5. They had Mistico and Aguayo in Monumental last month and they managed to have an outstanding 85% empty turnout, MTY is dead, nothing surprises me about them.

Singles matches with nothing on the line are not big deals, people even care more for chain matches or something like that than just plain singles match. Wagner counts as 1 and 2 of the top for the company or why I’m seeing “2/5” and “2/3” mentioned? Aguayo is not a draw, he’s been in 3 hair matches which had fell a long way from being sellouts, you can’t count him as a mayor draw or certainly not as Wagner’s level.

80% for them is pretty good considering how the year has been going for them, last year they had packed houses around this same time, and by then, it could have look disappointing, not this time around. At least they built enough momentum for this Friday, if it doesn’t pull a full house now, they won’t do it until the Anniversary show.

  6. MTY is dead for sure. It should be one of the best cities. M

Maybe this is a sign of things to come for AAA. Fans are realizing that it’s a new company, and there’s less emphasis on the stippers and minis, and more on the hardcore style. Does anyone think we’ll see crowd shots where 50% of the crowd is female girls between 14 and 24 years of age if AAA continues this stuff?

  7. Ciber, Zorro and even Mesias still cater to women, and Vampiro, of course, it’s only Intocable the one gone. Of course, they didn’t use much of that in MTY which is the main place where you have to use them. It’s probably a sign of things to come for Mexico City dying again, since they’re doing the same errors as MTY: lots of cards depending on a single stip match, over exposure with free or very cheap shows, lack of new stars, depending on other places to provide workers(La Laguna)… one thing CMLL has that might prevent them from sinking that low, is ArMex being a top notch place, people in MTY simply won’t go to Monumental, ACM or the other places because they’re old and ugly unless it’s something to die for.
