another CMLL sponsored show in Arena Mexico this week

CMLL (SAT) 07/12 Arena Mexico
2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Tzuki vs Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
3) Alex Koslov, Loco Max, Valiente vs Diamante Negro, Sangre Azteca, Satánico
4) Dos Caras Jr., LA Park, Marco Corelone vs Atlantis, Olímpico, Último Guerrero
5) Averno, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mephisto vs Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Místico

Notimex has the news on this special show, sponsored by a (unspecified) bus line Autobuses Foráneos. This will ultimately be a five match show, though the opener is unmentioned in the article. (Stuka Jr. is listed as at the press conference, so that’s one.) Musical groups AK7 and Cumbia Zero will also perform.

Since nothing is actually going of any note on the show (the matches might be good but unlikely to air), the real story here is the much busier schedule than usual in CMLL’s main arenas.

TUESDAY: Arena Mexico
Wednesday: off
Thursday: Arena Mexico special (FRAM)
Friday: Arena Mexico
Saturday: Arena Mexico special
Sunday: Arena Coliseo

Not only must they have no fear about oversaturation of live events, they must be either being paid really good or not paying much to operate Arena Mexico for a show. It does help to own your main buildings.

Those Tuesday Arena Mexico shows were so pathetically attended during winter, and yet they’ve never moved them back to Arena Coliseo, so either it doesn’t take many people showing up for CMLL to make their money, or CMLL just doesn’t care about losing money on them.

Edit: another article, mostly talking about the bands

  1. the entire purpose of selling sponsorship of an event is to have a tv deal in place. so, who’s televising this big show?

  2. So much great wrestling we’ll never see. The overkilling of the arena kinda worries me but at any point CMLL can just cut it off and go back to 1 show a week if they wanted. If they burn the building out at least nobody is to blame but themselves. Or AAA. Somehow it’s always AAA’s fault when CMLL fails.:)

I’m thinking the Tuesdays @ Arena Mexico have more to do with C3 wanting it there. After running the final Tuesdays in December at Arena Mex they went back to Coliseo for one week in January and then came back to Arena Mex the following week. C3 probably didn’t like how it looked on TV.

  3. Forgot to mention this, but note half the World X Cup team is working here. Hope this is an afternoon show so they can make an evening flight to Houston…

  4. My only thought is will this be the show Perro Jr kick the Hell Brothers of EMLL out of the Perro’s?

  5. There’s some risk of overburing the place although I’m pretty sure these sponsored shows are done for the employees and families of the sponsors to attend (for free), although I bet some tickets would be put up for sale.

  6. @xuisaw: I’m thinking the tickets are mostly giveways, or giveaway with some product purchase. Buy a car filter, get a GA ticket or some such thing.
