05/18: GDR, IWRG, Neza, TV notes, lineups

Victor, are you still watching FSE? Magadan said hello to you by name on the 04/25 episode and I totally marked out for it. (That’s about as far as I’ve caught up.)

CMLL (TUE) 05/13 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara [SuperLuchas #264]
1) Azazel b Quazar
2) Virgo b Valentin Mayo
3) Idolo b Infierno
4) Cien Caras Jr. b Casanova
5) Rayman b Malefico
6) Héctor Garza, La Sombra, Metal Blanco, Metalik b Averno, Mephisto, Mr. Trueno, Rey Trueno

The biggest news here is Toscano missed a show in a lead up to his hair match (again), though he did make Friday’s show. Malefico filled in for him in the semimain.

IWRG (THU) 05/15 Arena Naucalpan [SuperLuchas #264]
1) Halcon 2000 b Avisman
2) Judas el Traidor & Misterio b Kazuki & Super Destello
3) Chico Che, Freelance, Turbo b Black Terry, Cerebro Negro, Hijo del Espanto
4) Demony, Septiembre Negro II, Veneno b Aeroman, Chico Che, Multifacético
5) LA Park, Máscara Año 2000, Universo 2000 b Dr. Wagner Jr., El Dandy, Silver King

Universo 2000 replaced Hijo de Cien Caras, who took the martinete last week. Of course, by the end, both Hijo de Cien Caras and Mascara Ano 2000 Jr. ran into attack Wagner, and Park yanked his mask before cradling him for the win. Somehow, this leads to Mascara Ano 2000 SENIOR challenging Wagner for his title.

CMLL (THU) 05/15 Arena Neza [SuperLuchas #264]
1) Argus & Fresbee b Cobalto & Miedo
2) Molotov & Trueno b Vaquero & Zayco
3) Celestial, Electrico, Último Dragoncito b Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween
4) Calígula, La Sombra, Méssala b Arkangel de la Muerte, Dr. X, Skandalo
5) Axxel, Sagrado, Volador Jr. b Damián 666, Mr. Águila, Texano Jr.

Romans are tecnicos here in this arena only. It’s Santo all over again. Dragoncito challenged for a shot at the mini titles after a week.

The Chicago Tribune has a nice article about the Improv Lucha troop which performed at the Lucha Libre Expo. Lots of photos and video.

Lots of articles talking about next Friday’s Arena Mexico show, inclduing the new main event. The news of Perro putting his hair up has gotten the event more attention that it otherwise would, which is not much of a surprise. Toscano does not like this idea, though he wants to make it clear he’s not scared of facing Perro. He’d just like to settle things directly with Heavy Metal.

You’d think Accion’s CMLL highlights were of the semimain, since that’s got the big angle to set up next week. Nope, main event instead. Tons of Toscano highlights before the finish, so they know enough to highlight the right man, but not the right match. Maybe there’s a main event only rule?

AAA’s clips were of the Hell Brothers vs the Sect match from Veracruz. All Sect bits (mostly Espiritu), one crowd shot, and then Cibernetico chokeslams Scoria for the win. Also odd, but possibly accurate.

Abismo Negro will be appearing on “¡Qué tarde tan padre!””, a new entertainment humor show starting Monday on Televisa.

Notes from the two CMLL FSE show which aired tonight:

The evening broadcast was the Record show, as shown on Friday in Mexico. Matches include

CMLL RECORD (WED) 05/14/2008 Arena Mexico
1) Mascarita Dorada, Pequeño Olímpico, Tzuki vs Mr. Aguilita, Pequeño Damian 666, Pequeño Halloween – yes, I’ll put this up when I get to this show
3) Axxel, Máximo, Sagrado vs Euforia, Misterioso II, Nosferatu
4) Blue Panther, Héctor Garza, Volador Jr. vs Damián 666, el Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Mr. Águila
5) Marco Corelone, Místico, Shocker vs Atlantis, Black Warrior, Último Guerrero

(notice no results – when a news source puts on a show, they have to cover it and put out results because no one else will)

The late night broadcast

CMLL (SUN) 04/27 Arena Coliseo
3) Hijo del Fantasma, Sagrado, Valiente b Loco Max, Satánico, Vangelis
4) Grey Shadow b Sangre Azteca

As pointed out in the lucha times thread, this is actually the show FSE aired last week, and they skipped over an episode in the process. Now we’ve got it for two weeks in a row, though this week the title is correct. This is hard to track, but at least I’ll catch up faster.

Quick CHIKARA/lucha results – thanks to oddessa, and you really should head over to CHIKARAfans to discuss this in any meaningful context.

05/17: Hellertown, PA
6) The Order of the Neo-Solar Temple b El Pantera and The Colony
8) Claudio Castagnoli b Jorge Rivera
9) Incognito b Stupefied, Sonjay Dutt and Turboman [Rey de Voladores, sf]

The main came down to Incognito vs Turbo and went for a long time that way. Both that match and Claudio/Skayde were said to be pretty good.

05/18: Philadelphia, PA

5) Claudio Castagnoli, Pantera, Sonjay Dutt b Mike Quackenbush, Jorge Rivera, Turboman
10) Incognito b Helios [Rey de Voladores, final]

Incognito wins this tournament and was part of the winning Trios team, so it’s already a pretty good 2008 for him here.

“Turbo” > “Turboman” but it’s probably best to go with Dragon Gate over me.

Lineups

CMLL (MON) 05/19 Arena Puebla
1) King Jaguar & Legionario vs Mr. Rafaga & Siki Osama II
2) Centella de Oro, el Tigre, Tiger Rojo vs Espiritu Maligno, Negro Navarro, Zigma
3) Axel, La Máscara, Súper Nova vs Escandalo, Nitro, Policeman
4) La Sombra, Sagrado, Volador Jr. vs Averno, Ephesto, Mephisto
5) Heavy Metal, Místico, Shocker vs Atlantis, Toscano, Último Guerrero

That’s the trios champs vs the no-longer Triad of Terror in the semimain. It seems like that breakup has only stuck in DF.

CMLL (TUE) 05/20 Arena Coliseo Guadalajara
1) Golden vs Azazel
2) Virgo vs Danger (Guadalajara)
3) Carlo Roggi vs Depredador (Guadalajara)
4) Oro II vs Super Maquian
5) Magnum vs Mafelico
6) Gallo, Leon Blanco, Máximo vs Damián 666, Misterioso II, Mr. Águila
7) Dos Caras Jr. & Marco Corelone vs Atlantis & Lizmark Jr.

CMLL (THU) 05/22 Arena Neza
1) Kid Tiger & Trueno vs Cholo & Vaquero
2) Celestial, Electrico, Shockercito vs Fire, Pequeño Violencia, Pierrothito
3) Calígula, La Máscara, Méssala vs Dr. X, Nitro, Virus
4) Grey Shadow, Shocker, Volador Jr. vs Black Warrior, Sangre Azteca, Toscano

I think there are some commenting on this site who would be fine with Messala and Caligula turning back to the rudo side during this match.

IWRG (THU) 05/22 Arena Naucalapan
1) Halcon 2000 vs Quarterback
2) Gallo Tapatio Jr. & Yack vs Nemesis IWRG & Rockero del Diablo
3) Centauro, Fantasma de la Ópera, Zatura vs Demony, Septiembre Negro II, Veneno
4) Multifacético, Rayman, Silver King vs Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., Negro Navarro, Universo 2000
5) Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Máscara Año 2000 [UWA HEAVY]

There’s that title match.

CMLL (SUN) 05/25 Arena Coliseo
1) Pistolero & Silver Star vs Dr. Sangre & Mr. Maldad
2) Molotov & Trueno vs Calígula & Méssala
3) Flash, Máscara Púrpura, Neutrón vs Bronco II, Loco Max, Virus
4) Grey Shadow, Metalik, Stuka Jr. vs Olímpico, Sangre Azteca, Satánico
5) Dos Caras Jr., Negro Casas, Shocker vs Averno, Mephisto, Villano V

I started looking at this show from the main event down and was shocked (and happy) to see Stuka making the semimain. Makes much more sense when you notice that first match isn’t happening. Seeing as we still don’t know what happened last week, it’s tough to figure out what feud is going on here.

IWRG (SUN) 05/25 Arena Naucalpan
1) Gemelo Fantastico I & Gemelo Fantastico II vs Trauma I & Trauma II
2) Hijo del Espanto, Judas el Traidor, Rockero del Diablo vs Andros, Gallo Tapatio Jr., Goleador
3) Oficial 911, Oficial AK47, Oficial Fierro vs Coco Chips, Coco Verde, Cocolores [EdM TRIOS]
4) Black Danger, Rayman, Ultramán Jr. vs Demony, El Hijo del Diablo, Veneno
5) Multifacético vs ? [IWRG IC WELTER]

It won’t be a mystery opponent for long, but it’s dependent on who wins tonight’s #1 contender match.

19 thoughts to “05/18: GDR, IWRG, Neza, TV notes, lineups”

  1. I hate to do this but for the sake of accuracy…

There’s a famous mask maker named Victor Martinez as well. He makes the CMLL gear: http://www.mtzwear.com/

We know the FSE commentators read your site though so hopefully one day they’ll give you and the REAL Victor a shoutout for the reviews.

  2. No, no, they said it was the Victor Martinez, who writes reviews of the show in English.

I was all “I KNOW THAT GUY”.

  3. MORE IMPORTANTLY – Will you use your newly found pull to convince the commentators to start airing more Coliseo primeras and segundas?:P

  4. Even better… Mr. Cubs Fan!

Now I gotta go back and read Victor’s reviews to see how much he put Marco Corleone over. That may explain everything!;)

I would probably pay to have La Mascara give Henrik a shoutout in one of his promos.

  5. RFC is reporting Charly Manson fractured his leg tonight and will be out 6-8 weeks. That leaves a little hole in the Triplemania lineup and possibly some major AAA storylines that were taking place (Chessman leaving the HB… doesn’t Ciber need at least one person to work his matches?).

    Hopefully Charly recovers okay.

  6. Ovaciones says Alex challenged Rey to a title match for this upcoming Sunday.

  7. I’ve been recording but have fallen way behind on watching them, now I gotta go dig it up and watch. What a thrill, Wonder if Meltzer new reviewer is gonna get mentioned someday.

  8. Gutted about that Sunday coliseo segunda, it looks great. Not just a Neutron match, but a once-in-a-blue moon occurrence – a Neutron match where the rest of the workers are pretty good too.

Since the Cadena Tres show started last November, Neutron has had about a dozen or more Sunday non-TV bookings. Yet when it comes to Tuesdays, which is exactly the same level of show except the segunda airs, he has made TV a grand total of ONCE in over 6 months – and that was in a trio with Mictlan and Fabian. :(

Why the fuck do they only ever book him on Sunday dead spots?!!

  9. Because he’s awful?:) When is the last time Neutron had a good match on TV? I’m thinking the late Janaury Arena Mexico segunda but he was the least impressive out of everyone.

  10. Oh come on, we’ve saw him once since then, and it was a throwaway Coliseo match w/ Fabian and Mictlan. He was perfectly good in that Arena mex segunda w/ Felino and Stuka with a couple of really cool spots like his crazy somersault plancha and the intricate spot where he was thrown up into a springboard then missile dropkicked by Diamante Negro for example. And he wasn’t even planned for that match, the only reason he got TV was because he was a last minute sub and Nitro must have been otherwise engaged.

Even if he’s not as impressive as he might have been in 2004/05, he’s still better than most and you can hardly blame him for lacking motivation when he looks around at countless other useless idots get their pushes for sucking off the the right people. In 8 years, not once have they ever gave a shit about Neutron when he was easily one of the top novatos in-ring. Pisses me off.

  11. And i would also add that in the previous Arena Mex match that made TV, w/ Valiente and Leono which must’ve been around October-ish, he was also very impressive :)

  12. Fair enough… it’d be nice to see him with better opponents to see if he can steal bring it. I think many of the newer flying tecnicos have passed him though as I’d easily rather watch Stuka Jr., Flash, Mascara Purpura (sometimes), Super Nova, La Sombra, Valiente and Axxel ahead of Neutron.

He seems destined to be a segunda type guy for life much like Sombra De Plata and Dr. X.

  13. Chui always had a theory that CMLL won’t push their own wrestlers and Neutron is definitely homegrown.

  14. To be honest, as nice as it would be, i’m not all that bothered if he gets a push or not – i just want to see him on TV now and again even if it is in a lowly spot – but out of everyone in the roster, he’s the one guy with absolutely no luck when it comes to Tv matches. (or maybe it is deliberate?). He probably got more airtime in his few months with the Metro Gimmick then he did for the other 7 and a half years as Neutron combined.

I’m always been annoyed that we saw next to nothing from him between 01-04, but at least if he was getting his fair share of matches now when he’s experienced and has been a loyal servant to CMLL, it would somewhat make up for that and you could put those years down to “young luchador paying his dues” – like Sangre, Valiente etc. But with Neutron, the situation is almost the same now as it was then.

And with 8 televised matches every week (ie 48 spots/luchadors), surely it’s not that hard to give him a little bit of exposure once every 3 weeks or so? Likewise for the others who CMLL have mistreated.

  15. They really should keep track of who gets on TV and who doesn’t b/c I didn’t dawn on me till just recently but of the first 7 Cadena Tres shows – Metalico made *6* appearences. That’s way overkill, especially for such a shitty wrestler who doesn’t have enough moves to keep himself interesting unlike say… Flash… who made 4 or 5 out of the 7 episodes and was always doing different stuff.

  16. I like Metalico. :D

He’s one i’d put in the “unmotivated” category rather than “downright shitty”. he can be good when he wants to be, as you saw at the anniversary show last year for example, and several times when he was a tiger.

To be honest, it really can’t be easy for these undercard guys because they know no matter what they do they’ll get nowhere. CMLL obviously have their cronies, family members, good blowjob-givers and friends of ex-luchadors who they have decided they are going to push regardless. The only person who (to the best of my knowledge)seems to have done it all by himself is Valiente, but that’s because he’s so unique that he’s almost a ‘freak’ with the fat guy / great flier thing going for him. For everyone else, it’s who you know, not how good you are. It can’t come as any surprise that there are a lot of pissed off, unmotivated luchadors around the lower spots.

And at the risk of sounding argumentative for the sake of it, i’m only really into Flash when it’s a Friday shows. I really like him, but i think he really mails it in on the b-shows.

I dread to think what the C3 appearance stats for Fabian on Cadena Tres are. Mictlan too in the last 3 months after he came back from his injuries. I actually dislike Mictlan more than Fabian now. :(

  17. Wow, we really are on different pages! But at least we’re arguing about wrestlers and not who dances better.;)

Metalico is a split-personality. The Metalico I saw on the September PPV is *not* the Metalico who I watched 6 out of 7 weeks on Cadena Tres. Not even close in fact. The Metalico I watched was out of shape, slow and used the ugliest tope suicida in CMLL outside of La Mascara. Not once did he bust out his asai moonsault… creative armdrags… creative headscissors off the apron… not even once did he do any of those. Honestly… he was lower than Fabian El Gitano in my mind. Fabian is getting better and trying armdrags that he never used to do and his dives are reckless as all hell!

Flash is one of my favorite B-show (did I steal that term from you? I have no idea how it got into my head when I started naming the youtube shows I put up) wrestlers as a matter of fact.:) Always flawless with everything he does and still busts out crazy dives much like Valiente. In the ring he does all the stuff you’d see him do on Friday. It’s no wonder he’s moving up past Mascara Purpura in the booking office. I’m curious to see how long he lasts in the Reyes Del Aire if I ever see it.:P
