03/21: Dos Leyends preview, Guadalajara

CMLL (FRI) 03/21 Arena Mexico
1) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei
2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Tzuki vs Pequeño Damian 666, Fire, Pierrothito
3) Grey Shadow, La Sombra, Sagrado vs Olímpico, Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca
4) Blue Panther, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. vs Mr. Águila, Terrible, Villano V
5) Atlantis, Místico, Último Guerrero vs Averno, LA Park, Mephisto [relevos incredible]
6) Héctor Garza vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo [hair]

NotiMex summaries how we got here. Ovaciones compares this to Angel Blanco vs Solitario. In ESTO, Perro Jr. says this match could be toughest of his career and Mistico is fine witht he match he got, even though it’s not the match he was originally promised.

I’m not really torn about missing live coverage of this show. There’s not much drama here

– Perro is going to beat Hector. There surely will be a fake finish of Hector nearly winning, but no one should expect him to win here.
– One, or both, of the semimain teams will fall apart before the finish. I’m betting on Mistico’s team.
– none of the other matches matter.

Blue Panther vs Villano V will probably continue, though since neither guy has a title and neither guy seems close to losing their mask, I’m not sure where it can actually go to. I think this is Grey Shadow’s last big chance to establish himself as a notable star. He can hang around in the middle forever, but he’s not going to have a much better chance to change his rep before everyone makes up their minds. Minis and Women’s match could set up title feuds, or could just be 7 minute sprints to leave more PPV time for other things.

CMLL’s preview notes Mistico is no stranger to teaming with either Ultimo or Atlantis. There’s not a lot of new ground on this show. I think it’ll still do well, because the names in the main events are important enough to draw, but it’s not very interesting from afar. Rey de Reyes ended up being just as predictable, but there was more going on.

Ovaciones has a brief article on Bestia Salvaje’s passing. SuperLuchas looks back at his hair win over Huracan Sevilla in 1992, which seemed to be as much about the ref as the wrestlers.

  1. I’m thinking Aguayo will win clean, and Garza will probably fade back to Mty and never seen again… I say, Perro takes the first fall after a couple of minutes with a Lanza, they sell Garza being injured, probably with several “doctor is stopping the match” teases but they go into the third fall…

So will see lots of sprints since that Dr spots will take some time. They tease LA Park vs Mistico with the mandatory masks match challenges, and the rest of the card I don’t really care since I won’t be seeing it with that PPV thing.

  2. Chui,

Anyone showing the PPV on closed-circuit in your area? Why do you think Garza is leaving for MTY?

  3. SKY should have it, I know some guys with access to it but no Wagner=no interest and no one seems to be buying it. And I’ll be working till 23:00 so the show will be over by then anyways.

Garza was absent from CMLL until he agreed to lose his hair in that Mty event, suddenly he went back but once his hair is goe, he will lose his value, besides, hair losers have gone absent from CMLL for a while until they recover their usual look, Halloween, Universo, Corleone and Black Warrior returned 3 weeks after losing since they had the same look. Even Liz Jr unmasking caused no impact. Dunno, maybe he needs the money for a surgery or something…

  4. Lizmark Jr. has a good look without the mask. If he was reliable, he could’ve been a solid semi-main eventer for some time. But I’ve given up on him.

SKY will have the PPV. It’s their exclusive. But they do sell the rights to restaurants.

  5. Lizzy was supposed to be “CMLL’s answer to Mesias”…

CMLL’s booking has been bad for the last couple of years, they have not built any feuds in a logical manner, and the results don’t produce anyting, either on the winners nor the losers. The only guy who’s actually gotten over is Wagner, and that is without any help from the bookers (au contrarie, they seem to be trying to hinder him)

  6. Are 3 or 4 matches from tonights show likely to turn up on normal CMLL tv next week? i can’t remember what happened the week after recent PPV’s

If that’s what we’re going to get i really, really hope next weeks Arena Mex lineup sucks so we ain’t missing much – i’m still pissed about Volador/Averno and that was over a year ago! :(

  7. Well the last PPV was that September show and they waited an entire month to show it on free TV. It got a special 2 hour slot on Sunday which cut the Saturday TV show to 1 hour so they only aired the main event + Momentos from that week with the tercera airing the following week for some reason. On the Sunday PPV broadcast if I remember right they aired the women, the semi-main and the cage main.

  8. “1) Dark Angel, Marcela, Sahori vs Hiroka, Mima Shimoda, Princesa Sujei”

    – Tecnicas. Marcela over Sujei.

“2) Bam Bam, Mascarita Dorada, Tzuki vs Pequeño Damian 666, Fire, Pierrothito”

    – Set up for the Dorada/Peq Damian rematch perhaps? Rudos are on quite the DQ streak so I’d guess another DQ in two falls when Dorada’s mask gets yanked.

“3) Grey Shadow, La Sombra, Sagrado vs Olímpico, Rey Bucanero, Sangre Azteca”

    – I just hope Sombra and Sagrado are in top form to be quite honest. Let’s go with the rudos getting the win and Bucanero not being involved in the finish at all b/c why should he go over?

“4) Blue Panther, Negro Casas, Volador Jr. vs Mr. Águila, Terrible, Villano V”

    – Beyond pointless. Villano V will yank Panther’s mask to tease a mask match that will never happen.

“5) Atlantis, Místico, Último Guerrero vs Averno, LA Park, Mephisto [relevos incredible]”

    – Whatever happens here will dictate next week’s main event so I’d go with the match ending in some sort of double DQ with everyone brawling: Parka/Mistico, Averno/Mephisto, Atlantis/Ultimo. Will probably set up something like Atlantis/Ultimo/Bucanero vs Perrito/Averno/Mephisto next week.

“6) Héctor Garza vs el Hijo del Perro Aguayo [hair]”

Garza will win the first fall, lose the second fall within seconds, third fall will be full of interference by other Perros who Garza will fight off until finally Perrito will use a low blow for the win. Usual CMLL booking logic will have nobody seconding Garza even though his tag partner is in the semi-main.
