star rating for tonight’s show at Congress

from lowest to highest

-***, *, *, *, **, ***

And yet, they sold out the (reconfigured) building, probably out drawing that show going on in Chicago Ridge tonight. I don’t want to make an tough to defend argument, I just want to point out a lot of people paid money to see wrestling in the Chicago area tonight.

I’d do a recap if any wanted to read it, but I don’t know that I have much to say that I don’t always say or I didn’t express already. I scribbled notes on my iTouch, so I might as well type out results. Names may be wrong fro the random undercarders I’ve not seen

1) Jay? Jensen b ? Acid (not Trent Acid or Acid Jazz – two indy gringos)
2) Tigre Oriental b Silueta Azul
3) Great Malaki DCO Fuzio? (both helped to the back after a Fuzio dive)
4) Bazooka & Angel de la Muerte b Impacto & Pentagano
5) Slayer & Principe Franky b Guerrerito del Futuro & Aguila del Azteca
6) LA Park & Rey Misterio Sr. b Dr. Wagner Jr. & Infernal (no mention of Toscano all night)

note to world: sorry for not being able to track anyone down. Complete failure on my part.

  1. What is the new reconfiguration like? Wiki says Congress holds nearly 3,000 which is a huge turnout for four “names” headlining.

  2. They removed 95% all the permanent seats on the main floor (didn’t see what they did on the balconies.) There were barriers separating sections and a couple sections barrier, gaps and security blocking ringside.

And then, about 5 minutes before the show started, they allowed everyone in the general area to grab their chair and move to an empty space near ringside. It was kinda a free for all.

Between that chaos and not really being able to see the balcony besides the first row, It’d guess 2,500 but with a wide margin of error.

  3. Unless Chicago has many TJ natives, I don’t think Misterio can be called a “name”… well, maybe guy were tricked to believe it was Mysterio there, who knows. Toscano is not a name either, so a full house is impressive.

Even more surprising for me is that during the winter season they seem to pull of the beter gates, I remember a Mistico/Hijo del Santo show which was said not to be sold out, while a show with Canek, Mil and Rayo sold out even in the middle of a snowstorm…

  4. The place was definetely packed, considering that the last time LA Park and Wagner were here the show was free, I think this was a great success. Also, they increased the price of the tickets since the last time I went, to Mil’s an Canek show.

Also interesting was that the announcer (whom they should definetely change) mentioned that there will be Lucha Libre shows once a month. And that Hijo del Santo should be coming back soon.

I was in the first row and Park and Wagner definetely know how to put on a good show. Wagner looks to be at the top of his game.

I noticed though that the Ring was a pretty unstable, it shifted every time somebody hit the ropes hard and since they didn’t had enough tension well, it thought they should take care of those things next time.

Lots of fun!! Can wait to Hijo del Santo to be back!

  5. PLAZA DE TOROS “EL PINAL” DE TEZIUTLAN, PUEBLA. SABADO 26 DE ENERO 2008.

    Results

    1) Estrellita, Fabi Apache, Sexy Star vs Ayako Hamada, La Diabólica, Mari Apache — When Gran Apache interfered (could it be any other way? Well, I guess it could, since Mary has already pinned two guys (Hysteria and Billy) clean, I don’t know why she have to cheat to beat Fabi).

    2) Mini Charly Manson, Mini Dizzy, Octagoncito b. Jerrito Estrada, Mascarita de la Muerte, Mini Chessman — Rudos turned on Mini Chessman and Mini Charly did the save, so I guess they’re heading to a mini-HB team.

    3) Argenis, Billy Boy, el Ángel lost to Killer Clown, Psycho Clown, Zombie Clown — Clowns are at 23-0 for now.

    4) El Elegido, Joe Lider, Juventud Guerrera b. Electro Shock, Head Hunter I, X-Pac — Nothing much of note.

    5) Kenzo Suzuki & Zorro b. Charly Manson & Chessman, Cuervo & Ozz — Halloween distracted Chessman, allowing Zorro to hit Chessman with his kendo and take the match. Nonetheless, Hallween was attacked by Legion extrangera, so I guess Halloween might end up being Mesias’ replacement.

  6. Hey guys the place was pretty packed and the main event lived up to its expectations.I hope the next event on Feb 16th will be just as good. If i’m correct Mil Mascaras will be in the main event though i’m not sure who else will be performing.I spoke to my buddy Silueta azul and he said he’ll be coming back for future events. For those who do not know silueta asul he’s Blue demon’s god’s son in wrestling and he’s a pretty down to earth guy.i hope you guys can come again and see Las Luchas at da congress T.

  7. Mini Charly and Mini Chessman as tecnicos. Why not just turn Mini Abismo and then turn Octcito rudo to catch for all of them to make it truly 100% retarded?

By my math – 1 win for the new Payasos = 6 wins? SuperLuchas has them credited as being 1-0 after the last taping to make things more confusing.

Halloween as a top guy. Welcome to 1996 in Tijuana. Oh Konnan…

  8. Rey Sr., has headlined about 4 or 5 Congress shows, so I figure some of the fans know him by now. But I agree that the association with the more popular Rey Mysterio is what helps define Rey Sr., as a “draw”.

Feb 16 is kind of soon to come back. Mil Mascaras?

We’re just anxiously awaiting Dojo results.
