CMLL CAN52 GdR - 08/18/07 (#91)
Recapped: 08/18/07

Intro: Best ever intro standup bit. Felino's standing with Juan Carlos and Miguel, while the Sunday opener is happening behind him. Felino takes a look back as Caligula wanders a few feet behind them, recovering from an armdrag. I think Felino realized a dive was coming, and started to look for a place to move out of the way, but then got distracted by the countdown to his cue. A couple seconds later, there's that dive - a man does a springboard tope con giro and lands a few feet behind him. Felino looks back after the impact, and then does a double take when he realizes that's his son who just did the dive. Miguel, who watched the whole thing unfold, cracks up, and Felino mentions the body laying behind him as he hypes up the opener.

Outside the Ring: Dr. Wagner Jr. The title is a lie - he's interviews in Arena Mexico, in the ring. They use a lot of footage from El Diseno with him - this might have been done at the same time, actually.

Match 1: Arkangel, Nitro (c), Super Comando vs Flash, Super Nova, Valiente (c)
Arena Coliseo, 08/10/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. rudos

Winner: Rudos
Match Time: 9:31
Approx Rating: Good and different, but not as good as the last Super Nova/Flash match.
Other Match Notes: No entrances. As the referees check the wrestlers before the match, I wonder - what kinda of Super Comando doesn't have a secret weapon tucked away? He totally should have a grenade in his pocket that they confiscate each week (and then give back later.) The kid, Flash, is wearing gold this week.

1: As usual, we join the match after an edit. Arkangel is handing over Super Nova to Super Comando, who whips him into the ropes and adds a dropkick. Stomp, and Super Nova rolls out. Comando walks back to shi corner, but I guess they tell him to keep going. Flash leaps in the ring, and leaps over Super Comando as he slides after him. Off the ropes, and Flash takes a flip on a moonsault. That looked too pretty. Comando pulls Flash's feet, Flash front flips to his feet, ducks a clothesline, shoulderblock, off the ropes, hops to Super Comando's shoulders, and off with an armdrags. Comando's punch is blocked, wristlock by Flash, kick to side, Flash runs up the the corner, hops down to the middle rope, hops back to the rope, and adds the headscissors to take him out. Flash does a backflip off the middle rope to celebrate, but Nitro and Arkangel are just waiting for him, and knock him down with forearms. Valiente and Super Nova and knocks off the apron for good measure. Flash is forearm-ed and chopped. Whip, double springboard back elbow. Flash has a very blank look as he sits there after the move. Every back to the feet, and Nitro and Arkangel bum rush Flash, then whip into the ropes. Flash slides in between them and trips them both (not done very smoothly), and they lay in position as Super Nova climbs back up to apron and hits a double jump moonsault. Comando tries to break it with an elbow drop, but gets his partners. Valiente splashes everyone, Flash adds a springboard splash, Super Nova climbs on top of the pile, one two KICKOUT! That's actually possible? All the tecnicos get tossed to one side of the ring, charge the rudos and immediately get beat!

2: Valiente gets hiptossed over the top rope to the ramp, and Arkangel and Nitro do springboard stomps onto them. They pay no attention to the other guys, and Flash sneaks in a dropkick on Super Comando. He aims for a rolling jumping splash on Arkangel, but Ark simply steps out of the way and lets Flash hit the corner. Super Nova gets beheaded with a clothesline as he comes in. Flash and Arkangel can't decide who's supposed to charge on, and it ends up both of them charging together into a Flash powerslam. Nitro comes in to break up that pin, and holds Super Nova in a full nelson. Arkangel slowly gets up, and the clothesline hits Nitro once he throws it. That knocks Nitro out, but Arkangel drops Super Nova with a discuss clothesline. Flash charges him again, and this time Arkangel kicks him and sets up him on the top rope. Arkangel climbs up, over Flash, and works him over. Super Nova goes to the apron by them - off the top rope springboard 'rana! Nitro walks over confront Flash, and gets a headscissors himself. Super Nova thinks to cover Arkangel, but only gets two. Super Comando in, Super Comando a drop toe hold. Comando gets on all fours, and Flash leap boost off him to a top rope con giro on Nitro. Super Comando pescados on to him, Super Nova Asai Moonsaults onto Super Comando - crushing the front row sets, and landing in the second row. Arkangel heads to the top rope as the group on the floor recover - big plancha. Crowd gets loud as Valiente is in the ring. He sets up - double springboard moonsault! The pile falls to the left to try and catch Valiente, and then try to extract themselves from the front row. Flash crawls in the ring, pushed by Super Nova. Nova collects Valiente and tosses him in too, and then climbs in himself to beat the count - hey, it's a countout!

El Arte de Catch: Tope Suicida. I know this one! A guy takes a backdrop to the floor just to set this up.

3: Arkangel opts to walk to the ramp rather than face Valiente. Valiente's all fired up, so he comes out to the ramp to meet Ark there and invite him back in with chops. Arkangel eventually relents, just so he can chop Valiente down. Valiente gets up fighting, but Arkangel still gets the best of him with chops. He even blocks one, and then we look at women in the crowd. When we're back, Arkangel is blocked a hiptoss and getting in one of his own. Someone bounces a balloon right in front of the camera for the next bit. Valiente kicks Arkangel away, charges, gets tossed but lands on the ropes, and springboards back and gets Ark with armdrags. Ark slides out, and Valiente goes thru the ropes to keep fighting. They battle with chops, and then Arkangel grabs him and shoves him into way up an aisle, and then right back. They grab at each other's masks as they chop back to the ring. Valiente goes in the ring and dares Arkangel to come back, but Nitro kicks him down from behind. Super Nova in and back flipping for no reason. Nitro tells him to bring it. Off the ropes, over, under, rolling over, ducking a clothesline, Super Nova flips out of a hiptoss for good measure, and then Super Nova stops him with a chop. Whip, handspring back elbow may or may not have actually hit. Nitro rolls out, Super Nova slides to the apron, and hits a nice twisting headscissors to the floor from there. Back in to pose.  Comando in, and dropkicking Flash after he leaps into the ring. Big chest slap. Comando is fired up. Corner  whip, Flash runs p up the ropes and comes down with a sunset flip, but Nitro breaks that up. Super Nova gets him with a springboard plancha as the others leave. Nova off the ropes, and leaping into a powerslam, one two NO. Nitro misses a clothesline, and Super Nova gets 'rana one two Arkangel blows it up with a dropkick. Valiente in, and he's so fired up, he must stop to clap before attacking. Chop battle again. Arkangel seems a bit concerned, but he gets Valiente on a chest slap. Arkangel with a shoulderblock off the ropes, waved by, and into a big hiptoss. Valiente is back up, and chest slapping. You can tell Valiente's been working higher up the card, because he stops to look at the crowd in between moves a fair bit. Dropkick sends Arkangel out, Valiente off the ropes, TOPE! Valiente hits his mark, though Arkangel got a bit freak and didn't catch him at all. Super Comando in, Flash leaps off the top rope at him, Comando moves, Flash rolls thru his dive. Nitro grabs him, but Super Comando ends up dropkicking his panther. Super Nova in, and backdropping Comando. Nova gives Nitro a running stomp as he goes cross ring, and Flash and Super Nova stand at opposite corners - moonsault and a 450. Good, but they've been better. That's the match, of course.

El Diseno de Lizmark: HE LIVES. Blue and silver.

Vignette: A tacked on interview with Dr. Wagner, showing him with a walker as he explains his interview. They do this just outside Arena Coliseo (I think), and he's mobbed by fans. Wagner pulls up his shirt to show his wrapped ribs. There's another interview in front of the green screen, where Wagner lays out the mask challenge to Ultimo Guerrero.

Match 2: Damian 666, Emilio Charles Jr. (c), Terrible vs Felino, Heavy Metal (c), Maximo
Arena Coliseo, 08/12/07

  1. rudos
  2. tecnicos
  3. tecnicos

Winner: Tecnicos (2-1)
Match Time: 12:23
Approx Rating: Usual.
Other Match Notes: Entrances. Heavy Metal is handing out fliers on the way to the ring - for his concert? Maximo does the promo for his side. This feels like Emilio filling in for Halloween, but it was never announced that way and Emilio has been working in Coliseo the last few weeks. Terrible calls Heavy Metal "Baby Casas" in his promo, so he hasn't been watching the opener.

1: Maximo and Emilio remember they were feuding and so do the fans. Maximo wants a handshake since it's all over now, and Emilio eventually agrees - and follows with a shot to the nose. Beatdown is on. Emilio may have decide to wrestle this match in a black shirt. He partners are wearing their Perro shirts. Terrible is working over Heavy Metal with arm ringers, an odd choice for a beatdown. Legdrop looks good. Emilio sits on Maximo's throat and twists his leg. Lots of choking. We don't clearly see how Terrible beats Metal, looking at Felino getting choked out instead. Damian quickly tires to add his own half crab, just to make sure the fall's over.

Q: Que luchador ha sido multicampeon? TOO EASY
A: Felino - maybe they meant in this match? I dunno. They cite Felino holding the National and CMLL Welterweight Titles, and the Mexican National Trios titles

2: Beatdown continues. Felino takes the Guerreros slingshot hold/flying legdrop combo. They talk to Metal  a long time in a corner before he's whipped, but Emilio still ands the clothesline, and Terrible and Damian team up for the giant swing/dropkick. Let's not look at the marks on Maximo's back, thanks. Anyway, Felino and Maximo grab Metal when he's whipped to the ropes, Metal ducks the double clothesline as a result, and gets Terrible with the Heavy punch. Comeback from there. Metal does a 619 on Terrible and does a Mistico like pose, thought the camera doesn't pick it up. Metal gives Terrible a fireman's carry drop while his partner wait for him to finish and move out of the way. Felino catches Metal, and the Casas hold Emilio's legs apart so Maximo can hit the running butt bump to Emilio's crotch. Referees and announcers debate if that's a foul or not, while the Casas brothers set up Damian for the same. Maximo argues that he hits too high. Terrible comes in and starts chopping all, but Maximo kiss his fingers and puts them to Terrible's mouth, throwing him off. Metal clotheslines Terrible, Felino dropkicks him, Maximo hits him with a running butt bump. Felino senton, Maximo splash, one two three. Felino pulled Maximo's skirt while they were both covering, and then decides to start blaming it on everyone else.

El Arte del Catch: La Plancha. Of note, there's a women's wrestler doing the plancha here.

A promo for Guerreros del Ring airs, and it's always funny to be advertising the air time of a show as it's airing. This one's even better, because it starts Black Warrior. Oops.

3: Rudos still on the outside to start. Heavy Metal and Felino get into a random argument, and Metal slips off the ropes while leading the crowd in chants, but the camera totally misses it. Okay, Felino and Damián to start, as soon as Felino stops running around like a goof. He does the matador wave, much to Damian's annoyance. Damián knocks him down and mocks. Corner whip, Damian flips out of the corner, and immediately gets dropkicked by Felino. One two no. Damián slams Felino and heads up  slowly - Felino dumps him over the top rope and the floor. Damian grabs his knee and rolls around in a lot of pain after he lands. Maximo and Emilio in, but we look at the replay - Damian appeared to hit the top rope with his knee on the way over, long before he landed. it didn't look fun, but it also didn't look sever. They check on him as Maximo and Emilio do their usual stuff, including kiss. (Fans chant for one more.) Damian's standing on the floor, so I guess he's better. Maximo stokes the crowd rather than follow up, and Emilio walks out of the ring, around it, and start to the back. He comes back, but only after we missed Terrible knocking down Maximo. Whip, Terrible misses a clothesline, Maximo does some weird looking armdrags. Dropkick sends Terrible out, and Maximo fakes the dive. Tag to Metal. Metal fires up the crowd to chant for him before he starts with Terrible. Terrible chest slaps him, and now Metal's walking out! TOO HARD. Hahaha, Metal is wearing a Jim Morrison t-shirt. Metal off the ropes, Terrible drops down, Metal drops an elbow on him. Damian eye rakes Metal, corner whip, reversed, and Metal boots him down on the rebound. Metal puts on a half crab, but Terrible kicks him from behind. Corner whip, Terrible charges in and eats boot, and Metal clothesline him on the way out. Emilio in, Emilio takes the backbreaker. Terrible misses a clothesline, and he gets hamstring kicked. Metal puts an armbar on him, and Emilio finally stops him with a kick. Felino in, and he has Emilio hold up - so the crowd can chant "Feo" at him. Emilio is not amusing. Felino misses on a plancha, whip, reversed, and Emilio takes another tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Felino off the ropes, dropkick sends Emilio out, and Felino teases the dive. Emilio escapes around the corner, right into a Maximo apron dive. Damian in, and hopes Felino! Metal and Terrible left in. Why does Metal make a cross? Who can say. Whip, Metal slides under a leapfrog, ducks a clothesline, winds up the Heavy Punch, and gets booted low. That's the match. Terrible is unconcerned about losing.

Replays, Metal wants revenge and we're out.
